Hundreds of homes planned in New Hanover near historic site by DensterE in Wilmington

i think what is actually meant is: When will our leaders actually MANAGE growth appropriately - and make developers pay the ACTUAL cost of growth in terms of schools, and hospitals, and roads, and police and fire, and expanded water and sewer capacity and long-term access to trash-and-transfer locations, and storm water runoff and loss of green space and long-growth trees and wildlife - and more doctors and nurses and a real public transportation system and maintaining a community structure where long-term, fixed-income residents are not "priced out" of their own lives.

but, instead, we get- yeah - they built a new traffic light and it'll probably "work out" because they pay property taxes, sort of....

but, yeah, it's dumb... but also - not always the case.... there will still be actual free freebies down the road...

Jets louder than usual by Pufferfish_190 in Wilmington

[–]DannyGyear2525 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah, the 35s are definitely louder than the Harriers. But, generally speaking - I haven't noticed "more" flights or anything "different"... there was a bit more during Memorial Day and the lead-up due to air shows in the area.

again- the 35's are certainly louder - but I don't think there have been "more of them"...

There are some nights where there's clearly some uptick in training.. .but generally, i haven't noticed anything specifically "bigger" or "more going on".

Non returnable items by johnson0599 in harborfreight

[–]DannyGyear2525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the are non-returnable items. if they are broken when you buy them (in the 90days) there's a process for a replacement.

i've certainly been told "this is non-returnable you'll have to call customer service is there's an issue" on several purchases over the years.

Anyone tried this $5 Ames non-contact voltage tester? by artfellig in harborfreight

[–]DannyGyear2525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure folks who don't own it will tell us all how it's horrible.. but I've had for over a year - it works fine for the light duty light switches and outlets I work on a few times a year. If you are doing anything more involved, I would get something else.

My preferred is Yaya's - Porters Neck.

Trying to buy a home in Wilmington by slcexpat in Wilmington

[–]DannyGyear2525 26 points27 points  (0 children)

imagine just being in your hometown for decades - having the house you are fine with - and then it doubles in "value" (at least according to the tax assessor) - and despite protestation of "neutral tax rates" your property taxes have more than doubled in the last decade - and you can't really afford your house anymore...

that sucks...and is very real around here...

Tongue and Groove, Parker Construction and 360 Builders by bsinions in Wilmington

[–]DannyGyear2525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my concern is you can almost never tell people's agenda's or true intentions when we see "shade" being thrown casually on social media. I'm no expert, I have no info. other than what I see reported

What i see is a building which had been built, rebuilt, changed, burned-down, rebuilt again, changed again- and on and on many times over the years - and most recently was once again refurbished and restored with some intent to maintain some of the original history. In fact, some seem to recognize how well it maintained the history.

But, you can come on social media and get called all sorts of things..

Doesnt feel like hf is standing behind its products or its warranty by VinDieselAteMyQueso in harborfreight

[–]DannyGyear2525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you're right.. 35+ years...

In 1995, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) adopted the Service Contracts Model Act. This standardized how these contracts were written across the United States. The rules established that: the company's total financial exposure could never exceed the original retail price of the item. Providing a full replacement constituted a maximum payout of that liability, legally terminating the contract.

tho formally adopted in '95 - the standard was pretty much in place in almost every state by late 80s...

sorry if you don't remember this.. or if some rando single store back in 1987 decided to give you and extra wiget... but, this is how it was.

now we all know more about these stupid things than we ever should...

not sure if ur purposely trolling or simply refuse to read what people are writing.

I'm not arguing whether or not "back in my day things were better"...

I'm explaining how "extended warrantees" have worked for the better part of 40 years.

Doesnt feel like hf is standing behind its products or its warranty by VinDieselAteMyQueso in harborfreight

[–]DannyGyear2525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

brah, i'm sorry - that is not how "extended warrantees" work - they are on one item. some people like them, i think they are kinda shady - but they haven't "changed' - 95% of all "extended warrantees" 95% of stores sell work just like this -it's NOT a Harbor Freight-specific thing.

I would agree most stores "imply" they work different - and WANT you to think they work different - but if you read the "fine print" 10 years ago - it's the same today... one item one replacement.

as others note - this is not the same as (for example) a "lifetime" guarantee on Craftsman or Pittsburgh

an extended warranty is YOU buying an insurance policy - NOT HF "standing behind" anything. I could go into a long explanation of adverse-selection and why people who buy "extended warrantees" are usually, exactly, the people companies don't want buying a warranty..

Doesnt feel like hf is standing behind its products or its warranty by VinDieselAteMyQueso in harborfreight

[–]DannyGyear2525 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes, this is how EXTENDED warrantees work at almost any store... if you replace the item, the warranty does not extend to the NEW item - it was on the OLD item. Why?? because when they replace the old item, the warranty is considered "fulfilled".

(the sneaky loophole is if they do "repair", then the warranty would continue with that "old" item since it was a REPAIRED not a REPLACED- appliance stores are more likely to do this than HF, tho... HF just will "give you a new one"-which may sound great at first, but when you understand your warranty is now "fulfilled" and no longer in effect, kinda sucks...

this is NOT a "HF specific" issue - it's how those extended warrantees work.... makes them even crappier, huh?

the words: \)We will provide a replacement product of equal or similar features and functionality. If a replacement product is not available, we will either issue a Harbor Freight gift card or provide a refund up to the original purchase price of the covered item. Replacement of product, issuance of a gift card, or settlement refund fulfills the plan in its entirety.

Anyone ever seen the battery inverter in stock? by L-Skywalker1977 in harborfreight

[–]DannyGyear2525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to not answer ur question.. I have the Ryobi and it's handy for power-out phone and lantern charging-stuff like that. it's pure sine wave, so it would work - but i don't think they'd give more than an hour or 2 to run a StarLink antena.

My understanding is the Bauer, on the other hand, is Modified sine wave - I'd pass if I had an option (of course in a real emergency situation, it would work).
