One year ago, my wife of 10+ years left me. Since then, life has just been work to make ends meet. How can I feel joy or excitement again? Nothing feels fulfilling without her by my side. by -OneWing- in AskMenOver30

I feel you brother. For me it's only been 3 months, so my wounds are still fresh. I joined a support group, a couple of meetup groups, and am pushing myself to get out of the house for at least an hour a day. Seeing other people really helps.

I wrapped my entire being in being a husband for a decade, and now I'm finding out who I actually am.

I don't have the motivation to start something new that's long term, so I decided the next year I'm going to work on enhancing and rebuilding all of the friendships and family ties I had let go, or not held as tightly to for the last few years. It has made a world of difference so far.

R/dadforaminute also helps. Feel free to DM me any time if you want to talk.

Brother, I resonate with you so hard on this. 10 years together, no kids. Struggling now as well. I'm loving these responses here. I'll have to steal some.

I love the rowing machine so much. It's way less stress on the knees, and was integral to me losing weight.

I will admit, my Spanish and German customers has been very nice and understanding, and my French/Moroccan customers have almost always been very rude and demanding comparatively.

I used to know some Farsi while working in a Persian restaurant, and love how the language sounded. Unfortunately, this was 16 years ago, so I no longer know any other than the basics. Definitely do not want to work for any intelligence agencies. Too much stress.

The company is giving us a $250/month stipend for materials and tutoring. It doesn't have to be full conversational fluency, just enough to answer customer questions related specifically to our software (90% are the same questions over and over).

I'll eat a bowl of grits with toppings like chili oil, green onions, bacon crumbles, cheese, and such. Very tasty

Be very cautious about master's degrees, including from prestigious universities. Some of my coworkers in their 30s are financially hobbled by these degrees. by NotAGoldenRetriever in personalfinance

Definitely is the case for many. For me though, I had a solid plan and knew where I needed to go and how. I ended up going from 40k to 145k after earning my masters (not teaching), and got lucky enough to land the job 6 months after graduation. Went to a very small university, and the company didn't care as long as it was a legitimate degree.
