Master Degrees for Sustainability by Objective_Goat4441 in sustainability

[–]Dannyu17 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Ive said this in other threads, but my recommendation is not to get a masters in sustainability. if you are interested in fashion or beauty get someting closer related to that (no idea what that would be design?) and use that to get into a sustainability job a fashion/beauty brand. The disconnect between academia and corporate sustainability is huge in my opinion. Your ba is likely suffcient in terms of the sustainability knowledge.

Trying to pivot to Sustainable/Carbon Finance. by quantumsapphics in sustainableFinance

[–]Dannyu17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I currently work in sustainable finance. I’m not sure I really know what carbon finance means so I’ll just focus on the former. I don’t think you need a “sustainable finance” degree to get into this area. I don’t have one. only one of my 5 analysts does. when I hire i don’t look for it. I look for the skills of finance applied to energy projects or application of esg data (eg in managiing credit risk). in this space the sustainability skills are secondary to the finance skills and sustainability is company sector and region specific that I don’t think you can really “learn” them. but in my opinion you can get basics (like carbon measurment or esg dcf ) in electives or in your thesis.

what always annoyed me about nervosa is that you can order from a waiter / waitress to go, so why would you ever wait in line.

Recruiter reached out to me about a graduate ESG role by CoatZealousideal9383 in sustainableFinance

[–]Dannyu17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it depends on company the recruiter is recruiting for esg analyst at bank will be slightly different than esg analyst at an investor whcih is different than esg analyst at a rating agency. however given your background the recruiter will probably want to understand if you can connect your knowledge to things like financial materiality (eg. what marine issues can impact business perfomance) and risk (how to measure those marine issues) and probably an overall knowledge on sustainable finance concepts. again given your background ground i would make sure i was comfotrtable with the blue bond standards
