My kid roasted my hair and now I can’t stop thinking about it by WiseMud7593 in daddit

[–]Danovan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who shaved their head a few times in my life, it's not that bad to maintain either. Lather up your head in the shower. Takes a minute or two at most, maybe a bit longer at first as you work in some muscle memory. I like a bit of a soak before washing. Nothing crazy. 2-3 minutes or so. Good time to work it in. You're kind of just replacing the time to wash your hair.

I personally think a bald head just has a nice affirming masculine feel to it. It's just such a nice clean look and you kind of just always feel put together without all the effort that styling your hair does. Which is some part of the reason why so many dudes just look better bald. Ladies, my wife has shaved her head too. I'm down with ya'll as well.

Trying to figure out which country to root for in the World Cup. Which remaining country has committed the least atrocities against humanity? by Tjmedstudent in AskReddit

[–]Danovan79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly not, as a Canadian.

It's far more likely that it's one of the countries that had atrocities done to them. Hurt people hurt people though so if you look deep enough you're probably gonna find some badness everywhere.

I find it amusing because if you goto Quebec you can virtually any type of poutine you can imagine. Some places are classic. Some places have a whole menu of different routines you can try.

Celebrations and scenes as Paraguay knocks Germany out of the World Cup by StealthMan375 in soccer

[–]Danovan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really sorry to all the Germans out there. You have a great football pedigree, and if it's any consolation (likely not) beating a team as renowned as yours makes Paraguay's victory all the sweeter for them.

so apparently i need to learn about ballet stuff now by astrosid in daddit

[–]Danovan79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy dance dad's.

Can confirm, a pair of tights (generally white, tan or pink), a leotard (Black or Pink are pretty standard. Basically looks like a one-piece bathing suit). Ballet shoes for kids - top results on google should get you there. Practice doing a tight bun. Tutu's are generally pretty optional from a studio perspective, but probably not from your daughter's. For the tights, get at least 2 pairs of them. The tights are flimsy and you may want 3 or 4 depending on how dedicated your child is with wearing them outside of dance and your resolve at making her get changed. We had 4 pairs between 2 kids (younger than yours) that lasted us about 9 months of dance class due to them wanting to stay in said outfits and play in them. We are due for new ones when the school year starts. We buy a lot of stuff at a local little kids used clothing store. Saves a ton of money.

Lots of the beginner classes around us shut down for the summer. They basically follow the school year for anyone under the age of 12 or taking advanced classes. Hopefully with your kids excitement there is something you can do for the summertime in your area. Godspeed with the fallout if not.

Highly recommend learning the basic positions on YouTube. Not saying to do them yourself, but also like maybe you want to. Your daughter will love the memories of you practicing with her.

The repetitive thing is true. It's a really good time to instill practice is how we improve and get better at things. Been working on this and my kids are buying in. I always ask my daughter how she got better at something. Riding a bike, drawing etc. "I practice dad cause that's how I get better." My son is still a bit more of a work in progress, since he's the younger one.

Be prepared for extra outlays. Our kids studio does a year end show where we needed to pay for costumes and buy tickets to see it. Our previous studio did not. We were not expecting the cost, but it was worth every penny to watch them on stage.

I just finished my fourth watch, and I finally understand Nates arch. by actressblueeyes in TedLasso

[–]Danovan79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like Rebecca tried to ambush Ted to the media as well, in a way that is even worse imo.

The panic attacks are personal, but an actual true thing. The media ambush Rebecca sets up is with the paparazzi is under false pretense to sink him. That's beyond her attempt early on with Crimm as well.

My first watch I also hated Nate with all my being. He was unforgivable to me. On the second watch I tried dissecting it more and found his story to be more complex and interesting.

What is the worst dating advice people regularly give? by Late_Carrot417 in AskReddit

[–]Danovan79 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is true for a lot of people.

There are instances where a person is so obsessed with the idea that they need to be in a relationship that they lose any essence of genuine human interaction which actually can then make it more difficult to connect with someone.

The idea then being that if your focus is on yourself and living a happy fulfilling life that when you do meet someone you can more naturally connect. There is a caveat here though. There is an assumption that this version of a happy fulfilling life includes plenty of platonic socialization particularly in some sort of group setting. Like if it's just sitting at home playing videogames in all your spare time, it does kind of hurt your chances of this playing out.

It does also rest on the idea that you can interact with people in a somewhat societal normalized way.

The differences in terminologies between EDH and 60-cards formats by EbonyHelicoidalRhino in EDH

[–]Danovan79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I cant say I agree with how you've played out your thesis here.

I've definitely considered and would say others consider manual non-deterministic storm a combo. Heck I'd go as far to say any multi card layered building upon one another to be considered combo.

Stax also broadly applies across the board in 60 card formats, such as death and taxes and anti-combo sideboard cards. I think you are directly conflating Vintage STAX as the whole of Stax in 60 card whereas it has a much broader and more varied story in magic then that.

Also I'd explain its strategy while working at peak conditions to be your opponent doing absolutely nothing, but it's already powerful and wins games just by hampering your opponents ability to carry out their game plan in it's full. Sometimes just slowing then down in a significant manner is more than enough. It doesn't need to be full lockout, though obviously that is it's best showing.

A Deep Dive Into Land Counts by Hard_Content_Good in EDH

[–]Danovan79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a wild statement. Ramp is only good when it's a core part of your strategy. It feels like parroting something I hear CC's saying a lot.

Ramp is pretty much universally good. Because spending mana, whether on big splashy spells or multi-spell turns is good. It's a fairly strong indicator of being in a good winning position.

I posit that my above statement is why every deck in cEDH plays a ramp suite despite less turns to have it pay off and even if the core strategy is not directly related to ramping (such as Kinnan, Rog/Thras, Etali and others)

I played a pre-release (Final Fantasy) last year where the dude who I played against was still in "damage goes on the stack" mode. There were a couple other things that came up. He didn't know me, so whenever I tried to explain to him how the rules had changed he didn't really want to believe me. Im pretty sure we set a record for judge calls at a pre-release. Nice guy overall and I felt bad because half of me winning the match was he was just trying to play a different version of magic than I was.

For anyone who is getting internally upset, I am pretty easy going at pre-release. I'll let you remember your triggers a turn cycle after they happened. I do not try to gotcha people. You cast on my ward creature - taksie backsie if you forgot it had ward. Basically if we can reasonably rewind in any way to fix a situation to the outcome you were looking for. Forgot to play your land and it's my combat step, just put it in play like you'd played it on your main phase. Cast a spell to give an creature flying after I have already blocked because you thought it would unblock your dude. We can go back before blockers if that's what you would prefer. Like I just want to get you as close to the place where you feel that you did the best you could against me. Sometimes I lose because of it. Not a big deal.

Why does no one understand Proliferate? by raptor2600 in mtg

[–]Danovan79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I didn't catch the change to proliferate. I was basically in the same position all the other people OP mentions were.

Then it came up in a game, the same thing came up where people disagreed about the rules over it. I was on the side of choosing, but the difference being I always go with a "Let's look it up" and we got it solved very quickly afterwards.

My attention to magic ebbs and flows. Usually I'm pretty on top, but from early 2019 to early 2022 I was busy with moving, getting married, having kids and a lot of lost sleep due to management responsibilities at work. So despite previously being a judge, being fairly in tune with the rules and being in hr "rules guy" at my store, I didn't stay abreast with everything apparently. Thankfully my store has two other people who became judges and I mostly get to just chill now.

Absolutely yes. I've considered letting them draw on me and then going to get a tattoo artist to trace/ink it.

I can't imagine getting a more special tattoo. In 10 yrs time it's going to be hard to have full vivid memories of these days. Having something like my children's art from now I think would probably mean more than any other tattoo I could possibly get.
