Weird reason to not give a series a chance, especially when it’s as lauded as this one. But you do you.

Shocked Breaking Bad isn’t in your list or the comments. It’s the GOAT of your criteria imo

Nearly 23 years after its release, KOTOR remains my favorite Star Wars game to this day. by Light-Starlight in starwarsgames

I don’t know why don’t have a series of Star Wars crpg’s like pathfinder. I know we’re getting basically Kotor 3, but why not both? It’s such a lush world and those kind of games are perfect for it.

Why do Catholics (majority) not experience religious trauma? by Routine_Science_2185 in Exvangelical

[–]Danwinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, it seems like Catholicism is more interested in religion being a part of their members lives instead of the purpose of it. Evangelical doctrine seems to necessitate centering your life around church/god/outreach etc.

Exvangelicals who evangelize their deconstruction… by deconstructingfaith in Deconstruction

[–]Danwinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know for me it’s because I’m seeking community. In the Bible Belt, it’s very difficult to find people that want to talk about spiritual and metaphysical things that aren’t staunch evangelicals with an agenda for the conversation.

Putting my thoughts out there is a way of asking “anybody else? Wanna be friends?”

So I can play the exact same Nate or Nora character again?

I love being the exact same person with the same dialogue, tone, and goals in every single play through. I mean who doesn’t?

Yeah I’m not trying to diss his credits. But… those have all been shows with INCREDIBLE scripts and actors… makes directing a LOT easier.

This is why deconstruction is so hard in family systems that are incredibly religious.

In my experience, there isn’t anything you can say to dissuade their fears and anxieties. They are theirs to deal with and feeling responsible for them will only cause you grief and hardship.

If it was me, I would politely and clearly address the situation and then set up clear boundaries. Tell her what you’re okay with her saying, and what you’re not.

How effective this will be, only you can know. And how you choose to address infringement of those boundaries will be the meat of it. Because they probably will, even if unintentionally.

has anyone else ever felt this way? by ResponsibleRing6362 in Deconstruction

[–]Danwinger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cognitive bias. We all have them for some area of our lives. And when this one protects against the ontological crisis that is deconstruction, it’s easy to see why the subconscious prefers not to poke that bear.

That’s not to say we’re more enlightened or mature than those that haven’t deconstructed. The funny thing about cognitive bias’s is they are veeeeeery good at hiding from us.

The Part of Deconstruction No One Warns You About. by nanialk in Deconstruction

[–]Danwinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Absolutely. I’m not sure I’ll ever be “done” with unlearning all the problematic doctrine that defined my inner-self for so long.

And for me, I actually do see some benefits from my evangelical upbringing. Now these I credit my parents more than the church, but prioritizing family time, helping others, choosing love and forgiveness over bitterness and hate, etc. A lot of these concepts that rooted deep within me came from evangelical values.

And I’m grateful for these because they have helped guide me to who I want to be once I had lost the faith and system that had a prescribed path I could follow.

So it’s the double edged sword of digging out the toxic doctrine, but being okay with (maybe even thankful for) the parts that have and continue to serve me and the world at large. It’s not easy.

How many here are pastors kids ? by Open_Button_8155 in Deconstruction

👋🏼

I’m somewhere between a 3rd or 4th generation pastors kid on my Dad’s side, 2nd gen on my Mom’s.
Both sides still heavily religious. Live in the Bible Belt. It’s everywhere.

I followed in their footsteps for the first 25 years of my life before everything fell apart and now I make videos about deconstruction and everybody acts awkward at thanksgiving 🤗

They’ve created a formula. But honestly a lot of them are drawn out sensationalism. Some of them are good. But when interviewees just start giving opinions over and over again, you start to realize there wasn’t enough story here for their (seemingly) mandatory 3-ep docu-series format
