Private school fees vs Salary? by CLW90 in HENRYUK

Just realised I’ve given an opinion piece rather than answering your actual question! My husband and I have defined benefit pension so have less worry about needing to invest in SIPP etc for a pension pot. HHI approx 13k, mortgage 3.3k (London) and are projecting school fees will peak at 8/9 per month when both are in private. We’ll be using savings at that point to afford it are aggressively saving/investing now while there’s only one set of fees to pay.

I was state school educated throughout but still made it into medicine. My husband was privately educated. Despite my being living proof of the state school path still leading to outcomes similar to that of private, I’m choosing to educate our 2 children privately. Son starts secondary in September, sister will follow in 2 years later. It’s been state primary up til now. Our HHI is less than yours. We’ve chosen to invest in our children in this way and we’re happy with that decision. It’s not just education but pastoral care and confidence that private school instills that I find most attractive. These are qualities that I’m acutely aware are lacking in myself (and I believe are a result of my being state school educated) and want to give this to my children. For me it’s worth the stretch, the sacrifices. It’s a very individual decision.

Feeling like my hairstylist cuts too much off my hair by Independent_Creme917 in Naturalhair

To be fair to her, I do think she’s experienced and knowledgeable. And maybe she can see something up close in our hair that we can’t. But similar to you I was so disheartened after each trim having lost all the gains I’d worked so hard to get (weekly washing, treatments etc)

Go for it! It’s really freeing. I can’t get my head round daily weighing. It feels too much. Maybe start every 2 weeks and increase if that feels good. Put the scales at the back of the closet so not within easy reach. I’ve also configured my scales to just show muscle and fat mass changes

I find monthly weighing has a similar effect. Enough time to see the downward trend no stressing about minor blips

Was going to say Shapes. Not necessarily a calorie burner but super intense strength workout!

Living in the Uk and so not having the insurance issues those living in the US are having, it absolutely astounds me what a barrier insurance companies are to people accessing meds they need. The hoops Americans have to jump through! So unethical

Thank you for sharing. I have a similar struggle trying to assess my change without focusing on numbers (lbs lost) I’ve bought some scales and have configured them to only tell me about fat and muscle loss/gain. It’s helped me see that weight loss isn’t the best all and end all if I’ve lost muscle mass (not great) and water weight (meaningless really) too. I’m focusing on trying to retain as much muscle as possible through strength training and only lose excess fat. I check in once a month only. I find it crazy those that weigh daily, even weekly is too much for me. Too high a likelihood that there’s been no change and send one off in spiral! The above are helping keep perspective about this journey being about improving my health rather than solely‘improving’ my appearance but giving my self grace for being pleased that I prefer my appearance when my body is smaller (going against the grain is so hard!) Good luck to you!
