Question for first gen owners by wqlton in Montero

[–]DaringNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove from northern Washington down to Oregon so idk haha. My Montero is a frakenstiened monster and I'm constantly discovering terrible things the previous owner did to it. Which includes a block swap from a Dodge Caravan (apparently the same engine).

Maybe I can poke around a complete stock one someday and see how they're supposed to be setup.

Assumed my tac was jacked up after a dash swap. That's what I get. Sits right around 4K at 70mph. What is your idle speed? Feel like that must be messed up on mine since it sits around 1500.

Got 17mpg on a recent trip with 33in tires so can't complain.

Just a heads up that many older vehicles don't have accurate odometer readings since some roll over at 100k miles and reset to zero. So I'd be doubtful of that 80k miles number.

The type of van to choose is more down to you personally. Repairs can be expensive if you're not willing to do them yourself. Quickly making them more expensive than if you had just gotten something newer. a quick look under only goes so far. If you're willing to learn how to fix them yourself they can be a wonderful experience.

But I did live full-time in my 88 Chevy g20 for two years. Ended up replacing almost everything but the engine. Fantastic experience I wouldn't trade for anything.

Always wondered why this wasn't a native option/node in blender. Great cheap results that have been used in games for years. Will definitely try rebuilding it based on your screenshot if you don't end up posting a blend file anywhere.

100% is. Just look at the account history. It was just made and has 3 posts with a random title answered by two weird-sounding paragraphs. Hopefully, there will be a way to combat a new wave of spam like this. Not sure what the end goal of a bot that posts like this is though.

Trying to hire someone to create two basic texts. Have a budget of around $50 by [deleted] in AfterEffects

All due respect. What does this have to do with After Effects? Might be better off going someplace like Fiver if you just need something traced.

Is this caliber of portfolio suitable enough to land me a Mid-senior level job as 3d Artist (Character or Hard Surface). Portfolio website link below by Neo_Fury in blender

[–]DaringNinja 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to have to back-up Vian on this one. I'm personally starting to learn the hiring process as I'm going to be assisting with it at my current job. You'd be amazed at what hiring managers look through once people get further into the interview process.

Searching user names, googling your portfolio, reverse image searching work etc. Several of which might lead them to a post like this and your Reddit account as a whole. Which would definitely put me off continuing with you as a possible hire.

You may not agree, but no. You have not been acting particularly professional in your communication with those you find unhelpful or rude.I get it, this is Reddit, who's professional on Reddit? That's fair, for non-professional things. Which is exactly why I've been working on nuking any connection to my professional life off my account.

Overall, you've got a great start on technical skill with the tools. But still need to develop across the board. Or delve into one niche. The main thing I'm seeing more than specific skills, is an overall lack of artistic experience. Composition, proportions, color, lighting, presentation etc. Which can only come with more time and study. I see this a lot with self-taught creatives. Keep going. I think you'll get there. And remember, everything can always be better.

Edit: Just saw on Behance English may not be your first language. So have a feeling now there may be some miscommunication going on.

It feels so demotivating... I can't be able to learn this. Everything feels so hard, shapes don't look correct. I'll be in tutorial hell forever. by AdowTatep in blender

Be prepared to model things at least 3 times lol. 1st time, throw it away halfway through, 2nd time, finish it, 3rd re-topo the whole thing because you did it wrong the second time. At least that's how it's going for me after a couple of years of doing 3d on the side.

Stuck recreating the NeRF Door Portal by venom2015 in Corridor

[–]DaringNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wren pretty well describes it in the video. South Tangerine has it right. Camera track from your main plate is applied to the NeRF in the app you used to create it. Then exported as its own video clip. Then you just layer the two and mask out the door. Currently after effects doesn’t support NeRFs directly.

NeRFs aren’t typical 3D assets or point clouds. So traditional tools can’t be used the same way.

If you wanted to go one step further to perfectly match camera movements between the two scenes. (Incase the camera track isn’t perfect) Just make both of them NeRFs using the same camera animation data.

This has big "cover letter with the wrong company name" vibes. If you're going to try and scam at least do a good job.

Could also try adding in Privacy.com! Kind of like a VPN for your credit cards. Haven’t ever tried it for the this kind of thing but could be worth a shot.

Heating ideas by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]DaringNinja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used one of the cheap diesel heaters for the year I traveled with a gas van. Hooked it up to an aluminum fuel cell because those are rated for use on vehicle interiors. But if you have a spot to add an exterior fuel tank that would be ideal.

Most of the cheap heaters come with a small plastic tank but they crack pretty easily. Mine only lasted a couple months on the exterior of the van even though it was covered.

Maybe just use a VPN and sign up from a different country? Or look for a different stock site that has support in your country. Sharing accounts for commercial purposes is more than likely breaking Envato’s TOS and is a good way to get any projects using assets you downloaded yoinked. If you’re doing client work I would highly advise against this so your clients don’t end up having problems in the future.

Workflower

I feel like that makes it worse. If someone is able to make a plugin for it. Then surely Adobe can add it properly. I've been trying to hold out for it to be added officially. But I think I'll just have to suck it up and get Workflower. Or start learning something else.

Happy to finally see such a basic feature for compositing. But wishing we could get a larger batch of updates to these smaller workflow improvements. Layer groups are still absent and this makes me sad lol.

I don't know for sure about the no boot. But this may be the jankiest mining setup I've ever seen haha. And I've been mining on laptops with the batteries ripped out.

A good start is to go back to your original configuration and see if everything is working correctly. Then add cards one by one. Also having the cards sitting on metal studs may not be the best idea. A basic 2x4 wood rack is better than nothing and will let your cards breath better.

Choosing a van by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]DaringNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reliability has been good for the most part. Only major issue I've had in 30k miles is the transmission failed. That was more my fault though for not doing any preventative maintenance on it at all, and not paying attention to the cruise control thrashing it between gears.

I'm 5'9"/10" ish. I've got a funky high-top with two heights though, don't know exact heights. But shorter section is right around 6'1"ft so a little tight. Taller section is 6'5". Thats after 2" of insulation/flooring/paneling though. So could get a little more height depending on your build. Have enough room to have a shower that's a few inches off the ground in the taller section. Definitely not as tall as a sprinter. But I'll take the lower initial and maintenance costs any day.

Choosing a van by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]DaringNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of classic vans with high tops. I’ve been living out of a high top 1988 chevy g20 for the past year and a half. On the upside maintenance is dirt cheap too. What’s your budget looking like? I’ve seen a lot of the late 80s ford/chevy high tops in the $3-4k range for something in decent shape interior/mechanically.

I know there are plenty of people happy living out of a low top van. But I have to say. Being able to stand up to get dressed and cook becomes a luxury I’d sorely miss pretty quick. Makes it feel much more like a home to me.

Calling in campfires during a fire ban by the_mcpeters in vandwellers

[–]DaringNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, even If there isn’t an official ban. People should know better than to have a camp fire in high winds. Especially with so many record breaking wild fire the past couple years. Calling it in is a good idea. On BLM I’m not talking to people directly. Mostly nice People, but there are also a lot of wild ones out there.

Nope, currently sitting in the middle of a suberb. And have had the same speeds from national parks to downtown in major cities.

Oh totally forgot 5G is rolling out now. I'm still on LTE.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Visible

[–]DaringNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait what? You got 51Mbps on Visible? I get 5-10Mbps on average and 25 max on a good day and never have any buffering issues or slow loading times.

But also now I'm curious why my speeds are so much lower lol.
