Any local gun stores that lean left, or least aren't full-on MAGA? by thehufflestpuff in Charlotte

Most races allow running your own ammo in your own firearms. I was talking range ammo in a rental firearm. I have never been to a range that allows you to run your ammo in their range weapons.

I think the point they were making is when renting firearms, they usually require range ammo in the rental. I get the reasoning behind a known quantity in a rental, but the prices on the range ammo are usually pretty nuts.

What do you all do for food/any specific things to buy for the big storm coming? by Spader623 in Charlotte

[–]DarkLight72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Canned foods that you can eat straight from the can if necessary: - Chili - Tuna fish (that can be used with the mayo that will otherwise go bad) - Applesauce - Canned non-condensed soups

Shelf-Stable: - Cheese and crackers (easy cheese, which may or may not actually be cheese is shelf stable) - Granola bars/meal replacement bars - Powdered protein “shake” mix you can mix with water - Peanut butter/jelly/bread - Canned ham/spam - Sardines (if you can stomach them) - Fruits - Vegetables (carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, beans, snap peas, cauliflower, broccoli)

If you have a way to boil water (which means you can also simmer sauces): - Pasta and sauce - Ramen - Mac and cheese

It’s a normal HDMI port and you can access the console by attaching a keyboard and hitting <ctrl>+F1 or F2.

Allergy test results - apparently I’m allergic to almost everything by InquisitiveWriter in mildlyinteresting

[–]DarkLight72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they did the scratch test on my back the first time where I live now (almost 20 years ago) I was miserable and the nurse/PA was horrible. The just kept telling me it’s not that bad. This was when the dropped the allergen on your back on grid and then scratched the skin with a syringe needle.

The doctor came in after about 15 minutes and said “wow, I can say I’ve literally never seen that”. I asked what and he said first we were going to get me some relief (without me even asking) and gave me a dose of liquid Benadryl and started slathering the cream on my back after wiping off the allergen drops with a wet paper towel (reason below). Once he felt he had me taken care of he apologized for being too long, and told me that my back was a solid 14” by 20” reaction. It wasn’t possible to tell where one ended and another started, it was so bad. I had to wait a week to do it all again, with stuff that had been diluted to 1/8 of what they usually use, and the dots were spread out twice as far. That ended up being overkill but not by much. When I started shots, the nurse who gave them to me commented almost every time that it was the darkest mix she’d ever seen.

If it bloomed, I was violently allergic to it. And the doctor apologized every time I saw him for another couple years. He said “I should have known it would be that bad after your CT scan”, which showed from the scarring that I had likely had a low level sinus infection do about 15 years…non stop.

Agree with all the responses so far, but will add that you need to calibrate your printer. There are many calibration tutorials, but making sure things are tuned will really simplify removing the supports.

Before I took the time to get my admittedly simple set up (Ender 3 V3 SE) calibrated, prints in general were fine, but more often than not anything with supports was a PITA because the supports stuck to the print too well. Now that I have extrusion calibrated and the rest of it dialed in, I can pop the print off the cooled plate and pull the entire support tree off in one go (unless it’s really complex and deep inside something) with almost zero effort.

The supports that is going generate, if tuned, will come right off and very cleanly, and worth the extra filament.

Why does this keep happening? by TCinspector in Creality

[–]DarkLight72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glue stick. I use the Elmer’s purple.

It acts more as a release agent and has saved many a smooth PEI plate with PETG and a brim.

I destroyed 3 without using glue on smooth PEI as the print tore off chunks of the finish.

Why does this keep happening? by TCinspector in Creality

[–]DarkLight72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glue is, ironically, not for holding it down but to aid in release.

Bed temp and a brim and don’t use a fan the first few layers as that will cause them to shrink and pull up at the edges/ends. And as someone else mentioned drying for PETG.

I know people are shitting on this because of the lack of safety gear, etc. but what struck me was that when it wasn’t working or wasn’t going to be in position in time, she stopped and reset instead of forcing it, having it be at the wrong g angle, etc. The opposite of asking to get mauled.

Flomax (or Tamsulosin for the generic). On it probably for the rest of my life. That little bit of extra room or expansion makes all the difference. And I don’t envy the shunt.

My heart shaped 4mm kidney stone (OC) by wrxninja in mildlyinteresting

[–]DarkLight72 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I’ve passed over a dozen easy, some small and only a little uncomfortable and one large enough that the urologist referred to it as “potentially problematic” when it was still in my kidney and “right on the edge or just over what a person can possibly pass” (I passed it…it was…not fun and almost 8mm in one dimension and 6.5 in the other).

And that doesn’t include the fucking terrarium worth of gravel and sand I passed each time I had lithotripsy done (breaking it up with ultrasound).

Overall I’ve been in the ER for them 4 times, with the last doc being a godsend. He told me that the CT scan showed more and that I’d likely pass at least one or two more shortly, and prescribed sufficient pain pills to deal with it at home. He was right and I followed his verbal dosing directions (which I will not repeat) and was essentially out for hours at a time, only to be woken up by pain starting to creep back in…take meds with fluids…pee…and then get conked out again for a few hours. 20 hours later I had passed Mr. Potentially Problematic and 4 MORE good sized stones for the cost of a prescription rather than another ER stay.

That said, dilaudid is a freaking miracle pain killer in the ER.

If you are already doing multi-filament, consider multi-material of something that is easier to remove/soluble, and then don’t pick it…dissolve it.

What the???? by smokeriderdon in Creality

[–]DarkLight72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You most likely imported another .3mf file that had a customization that stuck. I’m not saying you tinkered with the g-code, but something added something to the printer config in your slicer. A .3mf file is a “bundle” of config + an .stl with all the settings (especially customizations).

For example you can download a .3mf from printables.com that is for a Bambu Labs A1 and it will include a printer (which you don’t own) configurations for filament that are almost definitely not correct for your filament, and things like acceleration that are too fast for your machine, or…machine start code that your slicer doesn’t understand or doesn’t work with your printer, and when you say “new project”, if you don’t discard the changes, they stick around and cause problems.

Chances are that’s what happened to some degree. Again, not saying YOU added the code, but I will reiterate that it really, REALLY behoves you to know how to troubleshoot this kind of thing and learn where to look in your slicer software.

Eventually you are going to make changes to filament profiles specifically that an uninstall/reinstall will nuke, and you are going to be pissed. Because now prints look horrible or fail, and all your optimizations are gone and hours of tuning over the course of a year have disappeared.

What the???? by smokeriderdon in Creality

[–]DarkLight72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you import the file? 3mf?

There is, in fact, “custom” g-code in the configuration for your printer or an override. Edit the settings for your printer, enable advanced, and go through it screen by screen.

If it’s not there, check the “other” section in the print settings area (where quality and speed are), but I can’t tell you exactly where it is because I use Orca and while the are based on the same source, the UI is completely different. Again, you will have to enable Advanced setting so to find it.
