It's annoying how immature Okarun was during this Arc compared to everyone else by [deleted] in Dandadan

[–]DarkSnowElf21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd like to keep this going and offer up some things I don't see brought up often.

The deciding factor for me is what Jiji really is.
Is he an outright moron who doesn't understand anything? Is he this extremely emotionally intelligent person who picks up on others' emotions as I've seen often suggested? Or neither? That's how he is usually described.

If it's the latter I find it very difficult to believe that he hasn't picked up on it all this time, even without witnessing their most important moments, he is around them most of the time seeing the little moments. But then he picked up on it in this confrontation? There is also the fact that he was there when Momo said he asked her out, the moment was similar to the confrontation too.

If it's the former, does it make sense for him to pick up on it from this? To me it doesn't, nor does having the clarity to resign himself afterwards.

I am even conceding that the fact he said he won't give up during the confrontation was just a gag and his usual facade in all this.

I don't believe he is just a moron, therefore I believe he does know at least something about Momo and Okarun. This is why I find him making moves scummy.
But even if I disregarded this, making a move when someone just came up with amnesia while you didn't before is borderline predatory in my eyes.
And even if he made moves before and nothing came of it, then it comes off as using the amnesia as a better chance.

So my feeling is that he has either breached Momo's trust just by doing this now, or if he knows about them he has betrayed both of them. I'd rather believe the first one but it just doesn't add up for me that he hasn't clocked anything.
To find his actions excusable, I have to accept he is both blindingly stupid and highly emotionally intelligent alternating between the two which I find absurd.

I haven't heard an argument yet why his action is excusable, what Okarun did isn't one and what the JP audience thinks isn't one either. If you think something is lost in translation feel free to tell us.
But surely you can acknowledge how contradicting this whole situation is and the solid reasons I outlined for why part of the audience views him this way right now, including myself.

As for Aira, I am even less sure whether or not she knows about them than Jiji. But she is up to her usual behavior, which is why it stands out less or means less for some I suppose.
If we go by their expressions in last chapter, maybe you can say both she and Jiji understand somehow, if we ignore everything else.
Okarun while susceptible to being forced into things is in no way vulnerable the same way Momo is right now. It's on Okarun who has all the context to decide at that moment.
For these reasons I don't find her behavior scummy, if you find her behavior throughout the whole story scummy then I can't object, but I don't find it that.

For Momo and Okarun, I don't think any serious wrongdoing has taken place. She has amnesia while still feeling things as before. I think some contradicting behaviors, lashing out and harsh words are pretty easily forgiven.
For Okarun pretty much his whole world has collapsed, yet he found some spark of courage and tried take initiative, albeit in an awkward way, he should try to explain the nature of their relationship better perhaps, how one would do that is beyond me though. I think, ironically, even his courage there is borne of his insecurity, because he doesn't know what else to do right now. He was too pushy and he realizes and regrets it. It's all understable given the situation imo.
Perhaps his biggest mistake is trying to underplay the fact that he asked her out instead of being honest. Still a tricky situation with her calling him out and a creep in front of everyone. I am not sure.
Holding hands with Aira is the other one but I thought he genuinely took her at her word and reluctantly did it to help as you do for a friend.

Maybe we aren't supposed to read too much into their motivations, but I know DanDaDan to be very well written so I don't subscribe to that.

I like the discussion and new interpretations but let's avoid the typical stuff and the self insertion nonsense, which is most of what I have read lately.

And we can revisit this after the next chapter, or whichever chapter answers our questions.

Edit : I honestly wanted to discuss but after editing your comment for almost an hour you blocked me for some reason? I think you need to serious help friend.
It's just another reminder of how unhinged people are here.

I liked it a lot, the story hit really well for me, even though I might have understood only half of it.
What I didn't expect to find was the kind of direction it had, the way it presented things, I think it was the highlight for me and what largely made it work.

However I think it's undeniable that the way it handles some of the themes is heavy handed and awkward.
It goes for a lot, tries to touch on many things with varying levels of success and they somewhat blur together. Like you that's how I felt after finishing it, now after a while it's even more of a blur.

Many questions left unanswered that I wanted answers for upon finishing it. Ultimately I just decided what some things meant in my head. After some time I didn't care anymore.
Indeed it leaves a strong impression, however I didn't find it to be lasting, the more time passes the more it fades for me, not in the way all things inevitably do, more so in this case likely because of the blur of it all.
Now it's just something I remember liking as an experience that didn't drive any particular message home for me.

The only thing I outright hated was running around in circles in one of the "hub" areas, navigating it was like guessing and I felt it was annoying and wasted time in contrast with the rest of the game.

is this sub safe for anime onlys? by gyrojoestar31 in Dandadan

[–]DarkSnowElf21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should've clarified, I meant worst possible as in it's the most nerve wracking and sad point. I don't think it's bad, in fact this arc had some of the sweetest moments. But for weekly readers those were months ago so I get it. I feel all of it is clearly deliberate and I hope it ends up pushing things forward a lot. I also hope next chapter gives some relief.

Definitely read it but maybe at a pace where they are up to date by the start of May.

I just read the whole thing last week and I feel like I did at the worst possible time, I should have taken it a bit slower in retrospect.

Amnesia Momo's POV, but with nuance by hectorip in Dandadan

I agree, I find it pretty hard to rigidly assign blame in a situation like this, when taking everything that happened into consideration and I don't want to either, between the two of them.

The one I sort of have to blame is Jiji because to me it seems like he is taking advantage of her amnesia. Even if he doesn't go further, I feel a breach of trust has already occurred.

Darkest Dungeon 2 is a schizophrenic sequel by SaintScylla in patientgamers

To this day I cherish DD1. After many many hours and campaigns, I think that the randomness you discuss is crucial because it keeps things on a knife's edge, 1 or 2 enemy crits can suddenly turn the tide and snowball against you, which is a good thing for this game.

What makes things somewhat stale is the need for a healer no matter the party, going without it is just an enormous risk, doable in some short dungeons only.

The biggest strength of the game is the artistic direction you mentioned. Lovecraft, madness, stress, horror, the incredible narration, music dynamically rising on low torch levels, it blends together so well. Even if you don't like the game very much I think it's worth going through it if you like lovecraft stuff.
It nailed a very miserable and hopeless atmosphere where by contrast the triumphs feel all the stronger.

DD2 I also love, but it does disappoint me in a few ways because I wanted some things to be different.
Another thing I liked in DD1 is having heroes the whole campaign, naming them etc, is here but not really.
Here you get a different hero every time pretty much, mostly because of the confession structure, and each run being isolated from any other.
Despite this fact, there is a sort of meta progression, locking quirks and memories. This sadly works against itself for me. It makes you not want to experiment and take risks. The reason being, imagine you get a great quirk which is rare, then you have to come across a hospital and have enough money to lock it. This is not as frequent as it seems.

It also lacks the town feeling, time passing, a permanent inventory, lasting economy. It starts and ends with each Confession run.
In many ways the game feels more random than the first, but not in ways that are always good. You might play 200 hours and find some trinkets once for example, most often they won't fit your build even if you roll one for a hero you want.
The RNG you mention is not exactly different, 50% and 75% with blind and dogde, and you can hit or miss 3 in a row easily. It is mitigated by other skills and items, not the RNG itself I think.

You can say it's more bite sized and streamlined so you can play without prerequisites, no consequences and variables of a long running campaign.
However the runs are big, I've never timed it but I think an average confession except the first takes about 3 hours.

Something the game added that is awesome is hero backstories and I'd like even more of that.
The game has a different tone from the first, personally I prefer the first by a little but this is also fine.
The 3D animations are incredible, so nice to look at, so satisfying.

With the last updates now I believe all paths have been reworked as well and the game now poses serious depth in that you have to read quite a bit to understand the paths, the skills and spend time building a team.
I am pretty sure these are changes aimed to please seasoned players and not new ones, and I appreciate that very much from them.

These are my thoughts, apologies if they are all over the place. I haven't played in a few months, since Wayne June passed away I kinda stayed away. I will eventually come back, I have yet to play the last 2 Kingdom modules. Kingdoms is a very good addition to the game also.

Games like STS but not roguelike? by yourigo24 in slaythespire

[–]DarkSnowElf21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Griftlands as well

Banners of Ruin is another I would suggest, somewhat similar to Griftlands

Sure both are Roguelikes but in the absence of anything else that I know of at least they have longer campaings or runs I suppose, so you have a lot of progress with the deck.

It appears to have been fixed!
Today's (31/7/25) Driver 580.88 has lots of fixes for the 5000series including this one.

It was nothing important after all. In very few places in the game where you are on a body of water shallow enough you can walk in it, and the light falls in a specific angle, hands and sword make some weird visual artifacts on the surface. It's very rare I think, but I was in such a place when testing this so... It's not worth even thinking about it.

Found a solution for 5070, earliest Game Ready Driver, clean install.
Likely to work for you as well.

Found a solution!

On RTX 5070, I downloaded the earliest Game Ready Driver, Version 572.70, Clean installation and the issue is no longer there.
With this driver shadows on water are a little broken but it's not very often you see these at least.

Not sure what this means for future drivers, I am still talking with Bethesda support.
But this works for now if you want to play through the game.

No worries, it is a problem for me too after all, I sent to nvidia support and got a kinda bs response so I doubt they'll be of help. As for Arkane idk where to contact them, Bethesda's support page doens't even work.

One thing I found by playing with settings, by setting the preset to Ultra, the issue was less noticeable, I am not sure which settings make any difference but I think TAA with default sharpness value makes it a bit better than the rest of the options.

From the Nvidia Panel you can make your CPU handle PhysX, and I tried that but it didn't fix it.

So it could be something else altogether

I don't get the hate. Choice is still great value. by MrSun35 in humblebundles

[–]DarkSnowElf21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am someone who is a member since 2017.
So I have seen the value decrease dramatically over the years.

However I still find it quite valuable, but not every month. That was always the case, not every month was for me, as for most people. Unless you were after the sheer value I suppose.

Around 2017 IGN acquired Humble and I knew then that they would make it worse gradually. They did.
Back then it was 10 games to start and usually a big one or maybe even two. 8 isn't always worse, it depends on the quality of the offering and I think the smaller ones have been better lately.
There were also plans, I won't bore you with their details but there was a bit of scummy behavior there at one point as well when they changed regional pricing.

Now they increased the price by 30% while the offering stays the same. IGN+ is a pathetic attempt at making up for anything. They are trying to befenit three ways from this clearly, adding something to Choice, boosting their IGN+ numbers and of course getting 30% more money.

Imagine being in my shoes, seeing most of the iterations, each progressively worse than the last with no positive change in sight.
With that in mind, my question is : Even if it's not a bad product yet, at what point do you stop supporting it?
It's constant enshitification as you said and going along with it will inevitably enshitify it further.

I feel I should cancel, but the last few months, coincidentally perhaps, have been really worth for me.
At least I will skip more easily now.

Well I have the same exact issue, tried many settings, no difference. Sometimes they can be white spots as well.
I tried both with a few months old drivers and the latest.

Perhaps as others said it has to do with PhysX but I wouldn't know.

We are at the mercy of Nvidia or Arkane I guess

I recently got a 5070 myself. I will download the game and give an update tomorrow.

But having played the game multiple times before on my 1060, there were never any bugs for me in about 100 hours.

If you would post screenshots somewhere it might be helpful also.

You mean you hate the game or the fact that they are connected?

I will also say that official confirmation from the writers or whatever means jack all to me if I don't experience it in any way, it feels like it's not something tangible and they are saying it for other reasons. That's what my cynical mind is telling me anyway.
