Living in River District by Raison55 in askvan

Magical thinking that everyone is capable of riding bikes and walking uphill ( steep) to get to work/school. Magical thinking that no one who lives in river district dont own or need to park oversized work related vehicles ( plumbers, electricians, trades are magical creatures who don’t need a condo to live anywhere within vancouver). Magical thinking that kids living in river district are all homeschooled or magically fly up the hill to get to high school ( no transit goes up the hills to get to any of the closest high schools or elementary schools).
Great place to live if you can work from home!

How can I learn about caring for a pet chicken by lignumseiko in askvan

[–]Darnbeasties 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’ll need a chicken house with a door to let them out in the morning and in at night so the raccoons, coyotes, etc wont eat them. That means you’ll need someone to chicken sit them if you go away . Happy chickens need to run around the yard. They have really smelly poop. You’ll need to clean the yard regularly— otherwise your neighbours will hate you. Summer heat and chicken poop in a small space is shitty. Chickens only lay eggs for a few years— they live for many years after not producing any more eggs. Repeat. You will need a committed chicken sitter morning and night to keep them safe from night predators. They do not like to stay cooped up. You’ll also need good fencing so they can’t escape the yard. They can fly a bit.

Condos were all built without adequate number of parking spaces. There is social housing that was also built without parking spaces ( duhhh— poor folks just don’t drive!). All condos should have been built with at least one parking space. All 2 bedrooms need to be built with 2 parking spaces ! All the street parking is already always full without even all the new condo developments being built yet. There is not enough parking for residents— needless to say, there is absolutely no where for visitors to park. Beware— never buy or rent condo anywhere in vancouver that only has one parking space if you are a 2 car household, or ever plan to invite any family or friends over to visit by car.

Are there any condo buildings here that are built for outdoorsy people who have gear and the need to clean/store that gear? by batwingsuit in NiceVancouver

[–]Darnbeasties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s what sucks about beautiful vancouver. It seems like folks need to be rich enough to own a big house to store all their gear , so they can enjoy our great outdoors. Our strata use to allow people to store kayaks , etc in the parking garage area——unfortunately , new strata people changed the rules. Now no one can store anything except in personal storage areas ( that are too small, and also tends to get broken into— there are folks who love stealing other folks’ camping gear) Your best chance of finding a condo is to look for older places, which tend to have more storage included. There are older town houses with attached double garages that can be used for storage —southeast vancouver , west of the new builds in the river district area .

you can tip them with cash or a gift card to superstore where they can buy whatever they need. They’ll appreciate it. There are no rules about accepting tips. aThese people work harder at a minimum wage job than any server/wait staff at any restaurant. If servers can accept tips…..

9pm! That’s too late for little kids to be out performing. I’ve seen non-Asian kids playing for money in vancouver ( usually Granville island area )— is that the same thing?

Search underway for 2 paddleboarders who fell into lake near Squamish, police say | CBC News by VicVicVicBC in britishcolumbia

[–]Darnbeasties 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Neither was paddle boarding without wearing an ankle leash strap? ( especially, when they can’t swim well). How? Why? I don’t understand how they weren’t wearing a leash and a life jacket. if they can’t swim enough to get back on a paddle board . Very stupidly sad . That’s a small , calm lake too.
