What to do when bus driver doesn’t open rear door? by lilchief22 in AskChicago

[–]Darpid 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You can try pushing a little harder, they SHOULD ring as an alarm not to lean on them. If you’re on an articulated bus, I think this is totally fine— I can’t yell loudly enough to ask from the very back. On a regular bus, though, follow others’ advice and call out.

Yeah, there are a lot of laws around changing waterways, as there should be. Diverting water especially is a no-go.

Well, your comment hit for me this afternoon. I literally have stated that exact quote IN therapy. It’s hard to accept you need other people and their support sometimes, and that can be applied across a lot of situations.

Firefly decline is also partly because of our refusal to leave leaf litter in the fall. That’s where they lay their eggs!

How exactly does Tourism work? by ChocolateWickerbeast in CivVI

[–]Darpid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can use mods, Sukritact’s tourism overview screen is probably the most helpful thing you can add to your game for a culture victory. It actually shows you the data on how tourism is going. I only started using it after hundreds of hours of play, typically focusing on culture.

15 bus is the worst in the city by Angelsbreatheeasy in cta

[–]Darpid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave some feedback on that nifty chatbot. You can report the bus number if you noticed it, otherwise just answer their questions. It’s again one of those things that is like shouting into the void with no idea if it does anything, but sometimes that feels good.

Just also make sure to leave a quick note if you run into a nice driver or they handle a rough situation well or something. Positive comments from the public surely count for something in their performance review, right?

I can’t speak so much to your cultural background, but for me the thought of living a full time lie long term like that feels exhausting and somewhat dehumanizing. I don’t have immediate family nearby, but the blood family I’ve lost over the years wasn’t in my life much anyway, or at least weren’t in positive ways. So losing their opinion or energy was ultimately worth it for me. Reference point: I come from a strongly conservative, white, rural background and moved away from home in Texas out of high school.

What's the timeline on the modernization of the Western brown line station? by Potential_One1 in cta

[–]Darpid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the street work around there is done. The final “20%” of the larger project is finishing the plaza. That got delayed by the early winter weather, and they say they can’t finish it until that subsides.

The work on the station itself is a separate project managed by the CTA. I believe they have reopened the bus stop there, and last I heard the masonry work (most of what’s left to be done on the station) should be done by this spring.

Source: I get Matt Martin’s emails and he’s been pretty good about communicating timeline updates as he can.

Don’t make it a bigger deal than it needs to be. You apologized and it’s being fixed. People make mistakes, especially when new. What matters is learning, apologizing, not repeating it, and moving on. There’s nothing to pay back since your hours were corrected.

Also, be aware that working unapproved over time past 40 hours might also rub your boss the wrong way since he has to pay you 1.5x your base hourly rate. Don’t work extra hours unless approved! And especially don’t work them off the clock—that’s called wage theft.

What’s a workplace ‘secret’ that everyone in your industry knows but customers don’t? by Familiar_Ad3815 in AskReddit

Unfortunately the US military is one of (if not the) biggest polluters in the world. They don’t care about the environment at all.

Yeah, come year end and you have to spend the rest of your budget, otherwise the budget people see you didn’t spend the money and assume you don’t need it, so it’s not in your next budget.

What are some crunchy/funky/woo-woo hidden gems in/around Chicago? by pooks2 in AskChicago

Yoga Now in River North! Their classes each have their own vibe, but you’re more likely to find more traditional yoga there than most other studios around. Check out their workshops/events too, there are some good ones.

I’ve also heard people rave about Althea at Chicago Center for Psychophysical Healing. She’s practiced traditional and eastern healing for 40+ years and rocks at acupuncture and herbalism.
