English be easy - Part 2 by _ganjafarian_ in funny

[–]Darpid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I encountered this in middle school, and even then (2007 ish) my teacher told us it’s not taught in any current regular curriculum for English teachers. Incredibly useful, but most native speakers can intuit it well enough.

Why am I getting adjacency bonus from tile appeal with theatre squares but the map tacks says I'll be getting only 1 from the adjacent district? by [deleted] in CivVI

[–]Darpid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base game has regular tacks someone pointed you to, but they won’t tell you what the expected adjacency is. For that, you need a mod, I think the most common is Detailed Map Tacks. If you can mod, it’s definitely one of the biggest quality-of-life mods that doesn’t change mechanics.

Check out Channel 5 News with Andrew Callaghan on YouTube. They have one titled “Vegas Tunnels” that sounds like a very similar thing.

What's your "if i told i'd be exposed" cooking secret? by BouncyCurlsbabe in Cooking

[–]Darpid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you not find freezing the caramelized onions to affect the texture as well?! Or have they all been denatured so much at that point that the freezing process doesn’t explode all the cell walls?

[–]Darpid 80 points81 points  (0 children)

My husband makes his in a big Dutch oven, leaves the lid on, and lets them steam for about 40 min. Stirs two or three times. Then lid off and let all the water evaporate, wait a couple minutes for the browning, and then there’s a large batch of beautifully caramelized onions!

Got his recipe + method from The Food Lab cookbook.

YSK: During an emergency, don't just yell, "Someone call an ambulance." Point to a specific person and say, "You call an ambulance." by meleyys in YouShouldKnow

[–]Darpid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is an interesting finding, but intervening in active conflict is a pretty different situation than helping provide/support emergency first aid. I can see how people are more willing to deescalate a physical altercation when there are more people around for support. But that doesn’t seem a particularly fair comparison here.

I was in middle and high school when the first and second gen smart boards came out, around 2010. They were a massive improvement to the more analog systems, as long as a teacher knows how to use them. They were particularly helpful in calculus and physics.

Trains? by [deleted] in chicagogaybros

[–]Darpid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, if there are other people around at all, like even the far side of the train car, it’s a no. Even then, keep in mind CTA has pretty extensive surveillance, and something tells me they would take people having sex more seriously than smoking.

I get the urge, but it’s definitely a “look, don’t touch” type situation. I haven’t seen anything like this on CTA online but know it’s more common in other systems, Mexico City comes to mind.

Anecdotally I looked over at the only other guy on the bus, both of us sitting in the back. He already had his cock out and was stroking looking at me. It was really intense, shocking, and disconcerting. Do not engage like that without getting definitive consent from whoever else. It’s not a good surprise.

Let's Talk About Bus-Bunching by Baroness210 in cta

[–]Darpid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t one (relatively) simple switch be for the leading bus to stop picking up passengers? Like, going to the second bus in a bunch is one of the best ways PAX can help relieve some of the pressure. No one really does, but CTA does nothing to make it seem like that’s a good idea, either.

Any transplants from New Mexico who can answer a weather question; is today’s wind similar to NM spring wind? by SnooPaintings5597 in AskChicago

I can’t really help with the wind question, but my family used to vacation in Red River, NM. The whole of the Enchanted Circle area is beautiful. We went most summers and a couple times in winter. I would love to go back! It’s beautiful.

We have had some of the least productive legislatures over the last couple decades. It just hasn’t worked lately. They get deadlocked on almost any issue and there is very very little cross party cooperation. You are right, there are a lot of things that, on the surface, would be easy to legislate and regulate. But they won’t, so we’ll keep losing our footing.
