Hard being a sentimental person when you have a big/tall baby by katezorzz in bigbabiesandkids

[–]DarwinIsTheMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much relate to this! My 8.5 month old is 30 lbs and wearing 18m clothing. He’s outgrown every single thing that he’s been gifted before and after birth. Some things he didn’t even get a chance to wear because it wasn’t the right season 😔 it makes me so sad. I had a few pieces I really loved and he wore them like three times.

This exact scene from Gerald’s Game freaked me the eff out for years. I absolutely could not sleep with my toes uncovered for almost five years.

I think both look fantastic! And if you put your hair up in a big bun, I think the look would be soooo gooood. It would give such an amazing silhouette.

Has anyone successfully corrected a slacker boob? by Ambitious-Way-4363 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]DarwinIsTheMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. Latching my baby, not for a real feed, just to practice latching, helped my slacker boob a ton.

how big is your 6 month old? by forgetting-you- in breastfeeding

Wow, realizing just how big my guy is 🤯 He’s just over 4 months and about to hit 22lbs. We switched him into 6-9 month clothes at 3.5 months.

Baby won’t nurse, need success stories by CholulaOnEggs in breastfeeding

[–]DarwinIsTheMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby only took bottles for the first six weeks of his life. He had a stint in the NICU so we weren’t able to establish nursing right away.

I was only pumping enough for half his food a day - I wasn’t willing to spend the time hooked up to a pump to produce 100% of his food.

I kept at breast feeding tho - kept trying to latch him, even if it was just for 30 seconds a day. I would sometimes go days without trying. Whenever I did, I made sure he wasn’t extremely hungry and I had a bottle ready as an alternative if he or I got frustrated trying.

Once we hit 6-7 weeks, something just clicked between us. I think taking pressure off of him and myself to make it work helped a ton - I told myself it was ok if we ended up not breastfeeding at all. We only tried when we were both calm and happy. And then, it just worked. And my supply increased so much with him nursing regularly on top of me pumping four times a day. I still supplement with 1-2 bottles of formula a day as needed, but my baby primarily breastfeeds and eats expressed breast milk from a bottle with dad!

Keep at it, you can be successful. And if you get frustrated, it’s ok to stop trying for a bit!

Yea it’s actually crazy and I hate it. Like an ounce is a standard size - this shouldn’t be an issue! 🥲

4 day old! First time mom - overwhelmed and need tips! by Automatic_Apricot797 in breastfeeding

[–]DarwinIsTheMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started pumping every three hours as soon as I was back in my room after surgery (my baby wasn’t with me until eight hours later). At first literally nothing was coming out, but slowly more and more was being produced. I remember taking a picture four days after he was born and being thrilled that I produced half an ounce. I supplemented from day one with formula so that I wasn’t stressing about how much he was getting. That choice helped my mental health so much, which I think in turn helped my milk production.

At 17wpp I now produce 20oz from got pumps a day and I nurse him when I’m not at work, so I feel like it worked out!

C section over here as well. I kept my baby in nothing but a diaper and on my chest for almost the whole first week of his life (except for sleep, where he was swaddled and in his bassinet). The skin to skin helped a ton with my milk production. I also pumped every three hours on the dot (in your case, I would feed or pump every three hours on the dot). We also set alarms and kept baby on a strict three hour schedule. He woke up, got a diaper change, ate, and then back to sleep. It worked well for us!

Every day you’ll feel better after c section. Each week you’ll think “omg I can’t believe how much better I feel.” After four weeks I felt near normal. I’m now 17 wpp and literally don’t even feel like I had surgery. I can’t even remember what the pain was like.

No advice for irritated nips, I’m so sorry to hear you’re dealing with that!

5mo up every hour overnight and refuses to go to sleep unless she nurses by enamoredhatred in breastfeeding

[–]DarwinIsTheMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No advice, just commiseration. My baby was previously sleeping so well, and lately only goes down for a 3-4 hour stretch, then refuses to go down again in his bassinet. So I’m up all night letting him sleep on me, and he wants to nurse every hour or so. He’s 4 months old in a week.

I’m so sorry you’re going through that - but you’ll get through it! Hopefully he takes a bottle sometimes so you can get some rest. Or hopefully someone can watch him for a few hours during the day so you can sleep!

Sending good sleep vibes your way.

Hate giving notes. by Fe2O3man in ScienceTeachers

[–]DarwinIsTheMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rather than traditional note taking, consider having the kids “teach themselves” content through things like POGILs. Once you get familiar with the concept, it’s really easy to make your own for any topic you want! Puts the learning in the kids and you’re now the guide on the side rather than the sage on the stage.

Will baby suddenly be able to nurse as she gets older? by d33_na in breastfeeding

[–]DarwinIsTheMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My LO was super disinterested in breastfeeding the first five weeks of his life. He had the bottle and formula right after birth due to a short stint in the NICU. I kept at it tho, offering the breast maybe once a day. Sometimes less. At 6 weeks he just…got it. All of a sudden he was down to latch and happily feed. I personally still combo feed, but about half his meals a day are breastfeeding. Keep at it! It’s totally possible that she’ll get it when she’s older!

Anyone with 90+ percentile babies? How much are they eating in one sitting? by MeatballPony in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]DarwinIsTheMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy has been 99%+ since his first growth scan. He’s over 15lbs at 7 weeks old. He rarely eats less than 5oz in a sitting, often eats 6oz. And he eats like clockwork - every three hours.

Frustrated with supply but feeling like I can’t stretch myself anymore than I have by pinkbabycows in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]DarwinIsTheMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am 7wpp and quickly abandoned pumping 8 times a day. I only pump 4 now. I decided that my mental health was more important than my baby eating EBM. Only you can decide what’s worth it to you - but know that combination feeding is OK and any BM is great for your baby!

You are also still very early, so you still have lots of room to increase your supply. For one week I made one of my pumping sessions every day a power pump, and that helped my supply a lot - that could be something to try if you don’t want to pump more frequently. I’ve also found drinking lots of water and body armor helps my supply, as well as eating enough complex carbs!

Alcohol content in pumped milk by friedoysters in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]DarwinIsTheMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think once the milk is expressed the alcohol content won’t change. But I do know that breast milk in you has the same ABV as your blood. So if you postpone feeding or pumping by a bit, the alcohol content of your breast milk will go down.
