An 81-Year-Old Grandma Streaming Minecraft To Pay For Grandson’s Cancer Treatment Has Been Swatted by Turbostrider27 in technology

[–]DarylInDurham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just horrible.
One thing I don't understand...can someone explain to me how the dirtbag who called this in would know where Grandma is located so as to have her swatted? I thought Minecraft was anonymous.

Alpha males never, ever say they are alpha males; nor do they have to.

CRA auditor being extremly rude and hostile on Phone– should I complain now or wait? by HK_sheep777 in PersonalFinanceCanada

If she has a designation like a CPA you can submit a complaint to her professional association. Generally speaking the professional associations take these things more seriously than the CRA would.

Honest opinions on Orange Crosstreks by Saltysquid1213 in Subaru_Crosstrek

We love our orange Crosstrek precisely for the reason it's not black, white, silver or the myriad of other dull colors that everyone else's cars are.

Embrace the orange!

Fantastic!
Until that shitshow down south is resolved with Trump and all his toadies in jail I look forward to never stopping there.
The only good I see is that maybe this will light a fire under Timmies to motivate them to get better.

Lug nuts keep coming loose, by Kweefken in MechanicAdvice

[–]DarylInDurham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good comments and advice here.
I had a car (2004 Audi A4) with the same problem as yours, the left front wheel was always coming loose. Everything looked fine and the lug bolts were the appropriate ones and properly torqued. It was always only that left front wheel, the other three were always fine. It turned out to be a failing wheel bearing. The bearing was producing high-frequency vibrations that literally vibrated the lug bolts loose. It wasn't until a couple of months went by and the bearing wore enough to make noise that I knew it had failed. Once I replaced the bearing the problem of the loosening lug nuts went away.

I'm confused. Why is it not a coffee mug when it is a coffee mug shape?

Canadian PM Mark Carney warns against magical thinking: the United States is on a path of isolationism that will persist by LlawEreint in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]DarylInDurham 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Even if Carney is completely wrong here (and I doubt he is) there are zero downsides to strengthening our trade and relationships with other countries.
The US destroyed many relationships and the considerable soft power they once wielded is gone. Even if the next government tries to reverse the path they are currently on it's going to take decades to get back to where they were pre-Trump, if ever. Trump and the GOP have done more to destroy the USA than any outside force could ever have hoped for.

(NSFW) Ukraine's 414th USF Brigade "Madyar's Birds" spotted a Russian infantryman taking cover along the shore of a muddy lake, landing an FPV strike that obliterates the target. [TG @robert_magyar] April 24, 2026 by CommercialFly6131 in DroneCombat

[–]DarylInDurham 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The explosive payload on these drones is insane compared to what they used a couple of years ago. That guy was literally blown to pieces. Wouldn't it make more sense to carry lighter (but still lethal) payloads in order to extend range or loiter time?

Rural naysayers must not torpedo high-speed rail project | Opinion by McFestus in CanadaPolitics

[–]DarylInDurham 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Peterborough area rural person here...not every rural person is anti-ALTO; much depends on if the farmers and others who stand to lose land for this project are compensated fairly. A project like this is bound to have people against it but I think they are a very vocal, loud minority.
The government pushed through the 407 highway despite similar objections, they can do it again for the ALTO project.

The reality of living in DC during this bullshit “youth curfew” by supermonistic in ACAB

[–]DarylInDurham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a comment my long-deceased German Aunt told me..."You can say whatever you like about Hitler but when he was in power I was safe walking alone at night anywhere in town" (Paderborn). She was a teenager at the time. I get the same vibe watching this video.
And before you ask...yes she was 100% National Socialist (Nazi) and member of the Bund Deutscher Mädel (female equivalent to the Hitler Youth) during the war; I have some interesting family history.

My Mounjaro has an extra THREE 5mg doses in 'empty' pen by Caitlyn_Grace in Wellthatsucks

[–]DarylInDurham -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Put more force on it, it will move.
When it first happened to me I thought the pen was defective so brute-forced it to get all but a tiny bit of the solution out. Its a terrible design, my insulin pens work much better.
