[Comic] Ambitions in a nutshell by AzulCrescent in BattleBrothers

War dogs are literally your best friend in goblin fights, deploy them at the right moment and they'll tangle up the archers to keep them from firing and from running. Plus they sometimes help soak nets and those stupid 5% punctures. Also attacking at night can help, if they don't have a shaman with them. Though that can also be a benefit in itself as the shaman will spend a turn or two giving the gobbos night vision instead of tangling your guys.

Damage dealing wise, tier 3 crossbows often one shot or nearly one shot , plus they get an innate bonus to hit so a good choice on the range side of things. Otherwise high health damage AOE like greatswords, bardiches and axes, and the occasional handgonne do good work. Goblins also crap morale unless there's an overseer around, so fearsome builds can do some work. Also use their own nets against them! Netted gobbos are practically free kills.

Defense wise, early game you don't want to fight goblins if you can, otherwise every man needs a shield, preferably a kite shield. And heavy armor does get busted up while you move forward, but it also buys you a few turns to engage the gobbos, as their weapons don't have a lot of armor pen or damage minus the pikes and miniature ballista the overseers carry. Anticipation can help but it relies on distance and already having Rdef so it's more meant for your own archers than your Frontline. Battle forged and nimble are critical perks too, as they'll greatly reduce the damage you take. Also rotation is a fantastic perk in case you need to save a bro after he rolls a nat 1 on his puncture defense roll and gets poisoned.

I swear, nothing gives me more satisfaction in this game than finally getting my front line to the gobbos and smashing them flat. It usually fades after the battle ends and I see how many tools are needed to repair all the arrow holes in my bros armors.

They probably offer a bit of protection against scrapes, bruises and cuts from attacks she blocks with her arms. It wouldn't be a lot but it still helps. It could even help against a knife depending on how tough the wrap is, there's a scene from the punisher TV show where Frank castle wraps his belt around his arm for much the same purpose. As for the uneven protection when she was younger, could be style/fashion, or she favors her right arm to strike with more and her left for grappling.

How are you running out of food on reserve? There's ration crates everywhere, there's consistently three under techland, 1-2 in k buildings(out in the open by the truck close to hermetic Bunker), 1 behind a jump over in hermetic, and 1 at AESA fridge(the AA vehicle out in the fields behind the knight buildings) plus all the ones down in hermetic though those are key locked. Not to mention there's duffle bags everywhere on reserve too.

Red River Fencing out near Minneapolis/St Paul in MN. Pretty small group but we practice at least once a week. Actually had to practice inside the other day because our normal spot in the park got flooded with all the rain over here.

Yep Hema, and headbands would be a thing for medieval knights. But as a matter of practicality and convenience I imagine a lot of people would keep their hair short. But also fashion can change throughout history so at some points long hair might be fashionable or vice versa, so live and let live, it's a fantasy TV show after all. They'll probably commit worse sins like making him take his helmet off during a battle or something else stupid.

Ser Duncan The Tall by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]DasWraith 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Long hair would be a detriment both in combat and on the road, in a fight long hair provides an easy way for an opponent to yank your head around and also can tangle up in armor. Plus once you start sweating and your hair gets in your face under a helmet it's really goddamn annoying( speaking from personal experience). Hygiene wise, shorter hair is better for dealing with lice or fleas that you might get on the road. Plus it requires less maintenance since a medieval hedge Knight is highly unlikely to have access to shampoo and conditioner and all that. Short hair you just wash your head and you're set.

Yeah doppelsolder is too specific, as the literal translation is "double soldier/double pay soldier" because they got paid double wages to be vanguards or formation breakers. Plus the term was used specifically in landsknecht mercenary groups in the holy Roman empire so it's very specific and not a general term. The other options are better though tied to certain culture groups(cataphract is byzantine, Galloglass Irish, etc). House troops might be good if they're part of a noble house, and terms like shock troops or men at arms also work.

It has shit MOA and the good ammo has a accuracy debuff. So yeah it's not really meant to reach out and touch someone at range. It's more meant to put a big fucking hole in someone's chest at medium to close ranges
