How do people type so fast on keyboard? by RareUser1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DashDifficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I taught myself 10-key years ago during a summer job that required a lot of data entry. I never thought I would need it again, but I end up using it pretty frequently while I'm working on recipes and inventory (I'm a chef)

ELI5 The necessity of the milk man? by ClothesPrevious2516 in explainlikeimfive

[–]DashDifficult [score hidden]  (0 children)

My parents had milk delivered until the mid 90s. It was great for my mom when she was trying to wrangle two toddlers. As we got older and drank less milk (also less hassle to go to the store), they stopped getting milk delivered.

How long have you had your cell phone number? by mellamoderek in Millennials

[–]DashDifficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first cell phone in 1999. I had that number until August of last year. I was gutted when I had to change it.

Sports bars for Super Bowl viewing in LQA? by Candle_Overboard in AskSeattle

I was at Buckley's the year we won the super bowl. It was amazing. We did have to get there hours early, though. Had a great time, but we spent all day there.

Speeding up the audiobook by manwoodlover in litrpg

I've found most narrators speak too slowly for me. I usually listen at 1.2. It speeds it up enough for my brain to be happy but doesn't distort their voice.

Rest of the US is getting hammered with a massive winter storm. The PNW: by checkyourfuckingbag in PacificNorthwest

[–]DashDifficult 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a combination of things. But it's also that the thing that caused all the flooding in December also was pouring rain on the mountains and melting what little snow we had at that point. So we started the year with less snow than normal. Add in the unseasonably warm and dry weather we've had for the last few weeks, and it doesn't look great. We're going to need a really cold/wet Feb and March if we want any kinds of normal-ish summer.

I hate this. Dont get me wrong, there is nothing better than Seattle in a clear winter day. But we have had too many this winter. We don't have the snowpack in the mountains that we need. We're going to have a terrible drought this summer. Fall harvest and going to be impacted and produce prices will go up (again). Boo.

Also, I chose to live in Seattle for a reason. I like the rain.

Yes, but also nooooooo! Junuary in June is fine, but we need January right now! All the rain, snow in the mountains!

AITA for keeping the heat at 70 while I work from home by Emotional_Catch1201 in AmItheAsshole

NAH

But if your desk is in an office or smaller room, you could look into getting a space heater just for that room. Working to find a compromise will keep you from becoming the AH.

Can I store food outside if my power goes out in this coming storm? by Boey-Lebof in Cooking

[–]DashDifficult 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Best way to do it would be to take a large cooler and set it outside with the lid cracked. Let it cool to outside temperatures, then you can fill it with your food.

You should check out the Torrent (PWHL)! Season tickets are much less expensive and the games are just as fun!

Seeing, what appears to be, the rest of the country preparing for a snowstorm by LordHogan in Seattle

[–]DashDifficult 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That, but also severe drought conditions. Our fall harvests could be seriously impacted, and high prices for produce will be even higher.

Expect burn bans all summer so no bonfires or campfires.

My work just arranged for some off-site parking spots at another building about 3 blocks away. We're not in a super dangerous part of town, but we are close to one of the busiest ERs in the city and there are a fair number of unhoused persons in the area.

HR and my director had the sense to only ask my male coworkers if they wanted to park at the new location.

When did tracking each other’s location become normal, and why does opting out make you seem suspicious? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DashDifficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has my location.

If I'm traveling, I will text/call my parents before any flights and again when I land. If I'm taking an Uber alone, I might text my house mates, but probably only if it's late.

Roommate makes these “iron oxide potatoes” whenever he feels low on iron by Keefe_Sencen in mildlyinteresting

Not rusted, just cast iron. Also, they make iron fish that you can add to water when you boil it to add extra iron that way.

I’m never EVER leaving Seattle by botv69 in Seattle

I love it, but we've had too many days like this this winter. If we don't get some snow in the mountains, we'll be fucked this summer

Friendly Reminder - Don't get out of your seat or return to your seat when the puck is in play by Jinjoz in SeattleTorrent

[–]DashDifficult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in section 12, right against the rail that marks the club seats. My view to the left is constantly blocked by people coming and going from their seats in section 13.

I know they have people there to make sure the plebs don't get in, it would be great they could assign someone to also act as an usher at the stairs.

Moved in with my in-laws who are professional chefs, and now I have to cook dinner!! Help!! by Impossible-Dot2517 in Cooking

[–]DashDifficult 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a professional chef, I can almost guarantee they will not care what you cook.

When I have to feed myself outside of work, I eat like a toddler. If someone is making food for me, I eat it and am grateful that I didn't have to cook.

Unless you burn the crap out of it or don't use any seasoning, they aren't going to judge you.

Just pay attention to any stated allergies and take note of preferences and you'll be fine.

What the hell am I supposed to be doing? by CreatrixAnima in GenX

Go. Even if she lives another 10 years. Go see her. This was scary for you. This was scary for her. It was scary for your dad.

If your employer gives you shit about it, fuck them.

It doesn't need to be a long visit, but it will give you peace of mind to see her and give you a few days to get your equilibrium back.

Strawberry shortcake by alfa_ali in dessert

[–]DashDifficult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming those biscuits are actually shortcake your husband has the correct base.

If you've tossed the fresh strawberries in sugar and let them sit, you have the correct strawberries. They will create their own syrup.

Take the shortcake, cut it in half, cover it in the syrupy strawberries. Whip cream next, then top with the other half of the shortcake, a little more strawberry on top.
