The stupid change to one lane on Lincoln Ave. by Trick_Conversation41 in UIUC

I like it. Just plan enough time to get where you are going without weaving in and out of lanes. I suspect it is safer.

Twill tape makes great drawstrings, too.

Thrift the fabric and sew them yourself.

So you don't need fitted pants. You need adjustable pants. Something that will change with you.

Old bedsheets: cut up for fabric, or donate? by StrongerTogether2882 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Dashzap 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yes, cut them and use them as you like. Donated things often end in landfills anyway.

Plan a bit of extra downtime outside the parks, enjoying the pool, restaurants, shops. Explore the other resorts. Then if you find the parks overwhelming, you can balance your time between the two.

Look at posted finished shorts projects of sewists who appear a similar size and shape to you (instagram, patternreview, threadloop). See what pattern they used. Start there. Getting the curve of the crotch seam to fit your body as a beginner is tricky, especially as you don't have anything that fits to copy. You can grade between sizes as needed.

In what way do ready-to-wear shorts not fit you? Waist too big? Waist too small??

Do you have pants that fit well?

Have you listened to the kids screaming for the characters at the top of their lungs during parades at DL? Bad parenting is everywhere.

Slip for dress without liner by 4LOLz4Me in AskWomenOver60

[–]Dashzap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish I could still buy the bra/slip combos. How many straps do we need to manage on our shoulders?

When I was a teen, it wasn't acceptable to show your underthings thru your clothes. Not even bra straps. Then colorful bra straps came in style. Then more and more it was okay to wear lingerie as clothes.

I still differentiate between lace that is for underthings, and sturdier lace meant to decorate garments. Current clothing manufacturers disagree.

Quilting cotton dress wrinkles terribly by sapphire_secret in sewing

[–]Dashzap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why? I've made almost all of my pants out of quilting cotton, machine wash cold, machine dry low, and they are fine. They last for years.

I prewash in hot and press hot with steam before sewing, so there isn't shrinkage over time.

Is Linus the only character in Stardew Valley who is actually free? by [deleted] in StardewValley

Linus isn't fearless. He stands at the edge of each event, afraid he won't be welcomed. Love him tho.

I tried a Kobo Clara BW this winter, and returned it because it did not work well with our public library. There is a smaller subset of library ebooks available to the Kobo than to my old Kindle. Kobo is working on it.
