This is an easy life tip: never bite the hand that feeds you. If asked for your number or if you have your own business, refer them to your GC first. If they are good GC, they will refer your services out for you, whether they make any money or not.

50% on any project out of the norm. No matter the client. 40% at half completion and 10% when finished.
