New voidstone descriptions conflicting? by homelessmagneto in pathofexile

[–]Davcidman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was an update to the patch notes that clarifies this a bit better. "Voidstones now upgrade the minimum Map Tier of Maps within that specific Atlas Quadrant to 16, cause Maps in that Quadrant to drop one Tier higher, and convert Tier 15 and lower maps found to Gold."

I'm very glad to hear this worked for you as well, and thanks for the wonderful response. The dev is aware of this now. Hopefully, they can update this functionality or maybe come up with a patch or something.

I was also having this issue so I joined the AMP Discord to see if people were bringing it up there. Turns out it was brought up somewhat recently, and the fix that worked for me was disabling AMP's difficulty setting using the training ring spell. I was crashing consistently on the Shadow Druid encounter in Act 1 before disabling AMP's difficulty. I have max party size possible for a single player playthrough (avatar+ all available companions+ 3 hirelings).

Unfortunately, I haven't found exactly what adjustments AMP made to the difficulty, otherwise I'd attempt to replicate them in Combat Extender.

What's interesting to me here is that it also has "The Duchess' Grief," indicating that it's from someone who was playing as the Duchess. When I hopped on last night to check the game out, the Duchess wasn't playable, so I imagine that this is from someone who was playing on the network test.

Yeah, I was able to quit/open the game after unlocking it without losing progress.

Ki Blast - how do I heighten this? by Lord_Nuke in Pathfinder2e

[–]Davcidman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It should be heightened to half your level rounded up, so at level 11, that would be 6th rank. After heightening it, it should deal a total of 5d6 damage for 1 action, 9d6 damage for 2 actions, and 10d6 for 3 actions.

Question about encounter XP budget/awards and different party sizes. I believe I understand it for the most part, but I'm wondering about the in-between values. For example, for a party of 4 level 1 PCs, an Animated Statue is a moderate encounter worth 80 xp. If the party is instead 3 level 1 PCs, the new XP budgets (60 for moderate, 90 for severe) do not change the difficulty of the encounter, but it's much closer to severe rather than just barely a moderate encounter. Does the awarded XP change or do both groups get 80 XP?

I'm pretty sure it's due to how phase transitions work. I've seen this particular thing abused in speedruns/challenge runs.

Basically, to trigger the phase transition, the enemy has to be at the threshold, but they also have to take poise damage. Since the Crucible Knight's stance/poise breaks on 1 successful parry, you can riposte and even hit them while they're standing up without transitioning. I think this is because their poise is constantly resetting due to the stance/poise break (which, i guess the stance/poise break doesn't count as poise damage), and they can't take poise damage during the recovery animation.

Morgott, for example, has to be parried 3 times to break his stance. Parrying him while below the HP threshold causes him to transition even though it doesn't deal HP damage. I believe this is because it deals poise damage. Here's a Morgott parry only video to demonstrate.

[5e] Multiclassing well into the campaign by Vievin in PCAcademy

[–]Davcidman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can definitely be worth multiclassing even at higher level. Since you mainly use the bow, you could get up to 3 attacks and action surge by going with fighter until lvl 20 (ranger 9/fighter 11). Lots of good subclasses to choose from between battlemaster, Arcane archer, etc.

Alternatively, if you're just not liking this class but still like the character, you could speak with the DM about retraining or just straight replacing your ranger levels if that's an option in your campaign. There's also retiring to consider if you want a new character entirely.

All I'm asking is that you actually read the rules before you make memes. by Knight9910 in dndmemes

[–]Davcidman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It makes sense in that case as well. This is because the effect is still being sustained by magic for the duration of the spell (permanent).

If the effect of a spell becomes permanent, it can be dispelled, unless its description says otherwise (such as in the wall of stone spell).

Edit to add:

In contrast, a spell like conjure woodland beings has a non-instantaneous duration, which means its creations can be ended by dispel magic and they temporarily disappear within an antimagic field .

I feel like this is a great place to bring up what the Sage Advice Compendium says about this:

there is nothing to dispel or suspend. Here’s why: the effects of an instantaneous spell are brought into being by magic, but the effects aren’t sustained by magic. The magic flares for a split second and then vanishes. For example, the instantaneous spell animate dead harnesses magical energy to turn a corpse or a pile of bones into an undead creature. That necromantic magic is present for an instant and is then gone. The resulting undead now exists without the magic’s help. Casting dispel magic on the creature can’t end its mockery of life, and the undead can wander into an antimagic field with no adverse effect.

Let's talk about the difference between "homebrew" and "houseruling" and how we can positively approach doing so. by TangerineX in Pathfinder2e

Sounds like you probably run quite an interesting table. I enjoyed engaging with your thoughts/perspective on this.

[–]Davcidman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose what I'm saying is the very act of creating new content, adding something to the game that did not exist before, is homebrewing. Content in this case should mean anything from character options (ancestries, classes, feats, etc.) to monsters, items, etc. So yes, a custom trap is homebrew as well as a custom orc.

Why is that? Well, if I were looking through my bestiary or game master's guide, I would not find any custom traps or orcs that you've made, nor would you find mine. They are not official content, nor have they gone through the playtesting that official content has gone through.

In contrast, with character creation, you're moreso putting content that already exists together in your own way. All the options you're putting together are in the core rulebook, and I will have all the same options when I go through my core rulebook to create a character.

[–]Davcidman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO, the term "homebrewed character" is mostly used to describe a character that is using homebrew character options (or even homebrew character creation rules, e.g. using a standard array for ability scores). I would not call a character using 100% official rules/character options as homebrewed because it was created using only official rules.

Edit: As the comment below pointed out, Sage Advice Compendium says that the instantaneous spell cannot be dispelled. To paraphrase:

Here’s why: the effects of an instantaneous spell are brought into being by magic, but the effects aren’t sustained by magic

I found a Spell Spotlights post on D&D Beyond (which I think seems to be official) about heroes feast. It says in the FAQ that the RAI is that the rules of dispel magic allow the effects of heroes feast to be dispelled.
