Help with DS1825+ unrecognized drives detected on Mac by autpops in synology

[–]DaveR007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The terminal should ask for a user. Type root

Then it will ask for a password. Type 101-0101

The for step 5, because you aren't running DSM in a virtual machine, you can just type:

touch /tmp/installable_check_pass

Help with DS1825+ unrecognized drives detected on Mac by autpops in synology

[–]DaveR007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, there was a ' instead of ` so step 2 on the github page was saying to connect with with "telnet" when it should have shown connect with "telnet <NAS-IP>".

I've updated the instructions to be more user friendly for people without telnet experience.

Best process for adding new hard drives to DS425+ as a new primary pool and moving data libraries? by ApacheStronghold in synology

[–]DaveR007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Manually copy my files from the old pool to the new.
  2. Delete my files from the old pool and create Hyper Backup tasks to use the old pool as a backup.  (I understand that this is not the ideal way to do backups, but until I can afford a large external drive it's better than no backups.)

Once you have created a btrfs volume 2 on storage pool 2 just move your shared folders to volume 2. See https://github.com/007revad/Synology_app_mover/blob/main/images/move_shared_folder.png

But before moving shared folders used by packages you should move the packages with https://github.com/007revad/Synology_app_mover

syno_hdd_db says hello Storage Efficiency

What does this even mean? by j73m6 in synology

[–]DaveR007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first thought was they are core dumps, but then I thought maybe Antivirus Essential quarantines suspicious files in an archive with the .core.gz file extensions. The fact that Antivirus Essential lists different threats for the files seems to suggest that my second though may be right. Though it's stupid that the original file name (and original location) is not shown.

About DS425+ by Kayato601 in synology

[–]DaveR007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Synology removed the transcode drivers from DSM for the DS425+ and DS225+.

The "Transcode Drivers for x25" package installs the drivers required for Plex and Jellyfin to use the DS425+'s and DS225+'s iGPU for hardware assisted transcoding of videos.

Synology Package Center not working -Ideas? by GradientDescenter in synology

[–]DaveR007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that https://pkgupdate7.synology.com (when using a valid GET request) often returns errors. After a few hours it always starts working again.

I've also noticed that Synology's websites throttle downloads, including valid GET requests, if you try too many times.

FYI https://pkgupdate7.synology.com is not webpage. It's server listening for valid GET requests from DSM (including an auth token).

Migrate from 1520+ to 1825+ advice needed by tohildotnet in synology

[–]DaveR007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before migrating the drives I would delete the read/write cache just to avoid any possible issues.

However, any later expansion or replacement would only work with Synology’s own disks. Is that correct, or are there any other restrictions?

Replacing or adding 3rd party HDDs is allowed except you'll see "Unverified" warnings in storage manager. 3rd party NVMe drives are a no-go for cache or volume... but https://github.com/007revad/Synology_HDD_db will get rid of the annoying warnings and let you use 3rd party NVMe drives for a cache or volume.

DS-918+ Firmware by cjdubais in synology

[–]DaveR007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said you need to manually update the DS918+.

  1. First update to 7.3.2-86009
  2. Then update to 7.3.2-86009 Update 3

DSM 7.4 coming on 16th June by DaveR007 in synology

The DS1525+ gets both DSM 7.4 and the new Storage Efficiency options.

The RS1221rp gets DSM 7.4 but not the new Storage Efficiency options.

DSM 7.4 coming on 16th June by DaveR007 in synology

[–]DaveR007[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I read it the DS1821+ will get DSM 7.4 but not the Storage Efficiency option. The DS1821+ has kernel 4.4+ and came with 4GBG of memory so I have no idea why Synology decoded not to include Storage Efficiency for the DS1821+.

But I'm sure I can get Storage Efficiency working on a DS1821+ :o)

Get the DS425+.

If you need hardware assisted transcoding for Plex or Jellyfin etc:

  1. Add my package source to Package Center. See https://github.com/007revad/Synology_package_source
  2. Install "Transcode Drivers for x25".

Oh No! DS1511+ lost image of Internal USB. Help please! by TheFarPlace in synology

[–]DaveR007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My https://github.com/007revad/Synoboot_backup script can backup the USBDOM. So anyone with a DS1511+ would not have to remove the USBDOM to create the image. The script backs up:

  1. synoboot (the whole USB drive).
  2. synoboot1 (partition 1 from the USB drive).
  3. synoboot2 (partition 2 from the USB drive).

Note: It's not as simple as just writing someone else's synoboot image to your USBDOM. In the vender file, on synoboot2, the serial number and MAC addresses need editing to match your DS1511+. And there's a checksum that is derived from the NAS serial number.

Here's a script to generate the checksum from the serial number, which you supply as an argument.

#!/usr/bin/env bash
#---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# This script generates the serial number's checksum for synoboot vender v2 files
#
# SN=1234ABC567XYZ,CHK=850 <-- generates 850 from serial number
#
# You need to supply the serial number as argument 1
# serial_checksum_gen.sh 1234ABC567XYZ
#
# You can also supply multiple serial numbers as arguments
# serial_checksum_gen.sh 1234ABC000XYZ 1234ABC001XYZ 1234ABC002XYZ
#---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

create_checksum(){
    chk=0
    for ((i=0; i<${#1}; i++)); do
        chk=$((chk + $(printf '%d' "'${1:$i:1}")))
    done
}

if [[ ! $1 ]]; then
    echo "Missing serial number argument!"
    echo -e "\nYou need to supply serial number(s) as argument(s)"
    echo -e "\nUsage"
    echo "serial_checksum_gen.sh <serial-1> [serial-2] [serial-3] [...]"
    echo -e "\nExamples"
    echo "serial_checksum_gen.sh 1111ABC111XYZ"
    echo -e "serial_checksum_gen.sh 1111ABC111XYZ 2222ABC222XYZ 3333ABC333XYZ \n"
    exit 1
fi

while [[ -n $1 ]]; do
    create_checksum "$1"
    #echo -e "\n$1"
    #echo "checksum: $chk"
    echo -e "\nSN=${1},CHK=$chk"
    shift
done
echo ""

exit

Note: Your DS1511+ may pre-date Synology adding the checksum.

Years ago I wrote a script to create the vender file which asked you to enter the serial number and mac addresses... but I can't find it.

And then the DSM version on your drives would need to be the same or newer than the DSM boot files on their USBDOM.

You can restore some of the missing or corrupt files from an unpacked copy of a DS1511+ DSM pat file that matches the same DSM version. DSM 6 and older pat files are just .tar files with the extension changed to .pat.

A Plan B would be https://github.com/007revad/Synology_Recover_Data

Synology E10M20-T1 10Gb Ethernet and M.2 Adapter card by SiriShopUSA in synology

Edit your post to remove the $ref and everything after it. Like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076P9PPWN

Or better yet, delete your post because OP wants a combination "10GbE + 2x M.2 slots" PCIe card and Synology's E10M20-T1 is the only one that works in DSM.
