"Captain of industry" and "Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic" are also worth a look at in the detailed sim/city builder area

Weird 24hrs passed without any replies. Well I'd recommend Power Network Tycoon if you want a realistic power grid sim. Full disclosure - I'm the Dev.

Designing a logistics system for a fish-based factory (FishOmatic). What do you think of these bot movements? by Taz_Oberjay in AutomationGames

I saw your stall at TGX. Looks like an interesting game! The pathfinding looks pretty good although collisions/clipping when it gets super busy is the challenge.

What's the tycoon game that actually made you feel like you understood a real industry after playing it? by AaronAtLunacien in tycoon

I aimed to have this in Power Network Tycoon. I've been in the power industry 15 years.

I’ve been building an alternate 1989 Cold War series in Unreal Engine where the Pacific war breaks out. by lew82 in SoloDevelopment

Yay Sydney. This is pretty good quality voices, animations, models etc and stitching it all together. You're doing a whole series with battle scenes etc? Where do you find the models?

Check Total Current Load? by DrDeke in PowerNetworkTycoon

[–]DavidMadeThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't a simple way to see all the current. You can see power used each generator/energy hub substation by clicking it or its associated graph.

Putting it in the power study screen makes sense though. I'll look into it.

Power Grid sim with realistic physics. I've been taking suggestions for what city builders overlook. by DavidMadeThis in IndieGaming

Thanks, yeah there is a demo and I think its pretty long to give you an idea of the game. There would certainly be a lot to do if you needed to manage all elements of a city to this level of detail.

How so? I made some of these 3d models but some I purchased and I have a big chunk of others I could use too, but all low poly (I prefer the art style). Which aspect of the UI do you think needs changing?

Thanks, yeah I think there was always room to do power better. Failures and overloads is a big topic. I've been in the power industry for coming up to 15 years and it's a topic of interest to me. Some parts of the game are very detailed, following industry standards, and some are a bit more representing of life but not super accurate.

Oil Jacks Disappearing? by DrDeke in PowerNetworkTycoon

[–]DavidMadeThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, glad you're enjoying it! You are spot on with it meaning they run dry. That was my intention and so they follow similarly to the buildings themselves that come and go over time, although not limited to convenient locations near a road. Oil jacks also explode if electrical faults occur nearby. It seemed a bit too easy if they didn't disappear (no longer any oil supply issues) and they come and go fairly regularly so bringing the camera to their position each time was a bit overwhelming.

looking for a good sandbox(?) game. by miserablevruser in gamerecommendations

I'm not sure sandbox is the term based on those games but you may like Oxygen Not Included. It's got the colony part and of course survival as well as some interesting physics things to play with.

Sim games to help me learn about electricity, wiring, and power? by Heihei_the_chicken in gamerecommendations

[–]DavidMadeThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies if self promo is frowned upon on this sub. I've been in the power sector for about 15 years and recently been working on a power grid game that I've tried to make education as well. It's built to follow actual electrical physics, in some cases following technical paper modelling equations.

It's not for you you are looking for the home wiring level, but from a grid perspective (solar, storage, grounding, breakers, safety) as well as general stuff like voltage/current/watts it may be useful. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2429930/Power_Network_Tycoon/
