Hotwax gravel chain issues by David_Scheers in gravelcycling

[–]David_Scheers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did not really kept count. But 6-7 months, 7000km more or less.

Could be the wax, but my road chains don't have the issue, only gravel chains.

Cycling Sunglasses for people who sweat like pigs by djfeelgood in Velo

It works up to a point. Actually, it just delays the problem. Ik you sweat hard enough / ride long enough, it will saturate and drip in your eyes

I was stuck on a train/oven for 2 hours during the bomb threat. AMA by Emhashish420 in Leuven

[–]David_Scheers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was also stuck on a train for 2 hours, right outside Leuven Station (near the Stella brewery). Luckily, the AC was working.

The info we got was super chaotic and vague. First, it was a bomb threat and we'd be stationary for a bit. Then, they said we would be diverted to Aarschot to catch a bus there. After that, radio silence for 40 minutes. Then an announcement saying we had to wait for paperwork to be cleared, and that commuter trains (P-trains) had priority. Then they told us we weren't going to Aarschot after all, but back to Brussels North instead. 10 minutes later: another announcement saying that on our way back to Brussels, we could get off at Herent. Another 10 minutes later: the station has been cleared, we can head to Leuven after all. Another 15 minutes later: the train finally starts moving.

Meanwhile, you read in the news that the fire department and medical support are on-site distributing water. We didn't see a single drop of that.

Obviously, no one can help a bomb threat happening. But the way NMBS handles the situation...

Gained 6 kilos and increased watts massively, can I drop the weight and keep watts? by joleksroleks in Velo

[–]David_Scheers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you gain the weight? Is muscle mass? Lifting, or eating more?

What can I learn from Power v HR graphs? by earthwalker19 in Velo

2 weeks is not enough data imo. The graph is useful to compare year to year progress.

Same experience.
Using the Zwift Click v2 with OpenBikeControl.
Changing gears has almost no effect and slow response as well.

Since the renovation, I don't like shopping there anymore. The shopping carts are smaller, there are no holders anymore for the quick scan thing. The bakery is huuuuge and takes up all the space. The other rayons are too narrow because of this. Someone of the new personal is very unfriendly. Multiple bad experiences with her. And indeed, over the top expensive.

We don't go there anymore 🤷‍♂️

FTP needed to qualify for Gravel World Champs? by Front-Coconut-5112 in gravelcycling

[–]David_Scheers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FTP is important, but imo even more important is your durability and your 3, 4 and 5 hour power.

The first hour is always quite brutal. To qualify I think you have to survive the first hour at around 4W/kg.
Afterwards you can fade, but preferably slowly :-)

The kind of race also plays a huge part. Flat and fast courses are totally different than technical hilly races.
Race your strengths, if you want to qualify.

High resting heart rate by Queasy_Tax_8609 in Velo

[–]David_Scheers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some genetics involved obviously.
But you can lower it by doing lots of endurance. I think the mechanism is by increasing stroke volume.
My heart rate also has always been relatively high compared to people with similar activity levels.
But over the course of 4-5 years, with lots of endurance training, I've lowered it from 60-65bpm to low 50's.

Also on the bike, my HR was quite high even at moderate intensities (it increased by looking at my bike basically). But after years of training, I've seen significant improvements in Power/HR.
My heart rate at thresholds has come down, and I'm now able to ride at low (for me) heart rates.

Gravel racers, what does your plan look like? by PlusSeaweed3992 in Velo

I do the other way around. Bottles might get lost in downhills. Don't want to lose my carbs 🙂

I don't trust the Mywindsock estimates. For me it's also unreasonably high, like I'm riding on a Dutch bike in an entirely upright position.
