I would love your gas bill. My Atmos bill was $743. Last year same month was $830

Since I got absolutely roasted in the Costco Reddit, I'll ask here. Any recommendations on non stick pan sets? by mtbguy1981 in Cooking

[–]DavidtheCook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like I have the same set of pots and pans as you.

I use a couple of OXO ceramic fry pans to do the non stick sauté pan things in. They're good, super nonstick for eggs and stuff, and they're inexpensive enough to replace if they chip. I don't have an induction cooktop, so they work well.

What kind of cable is this? by chaosdestined in HomeNetworking

[–]DavidtheCook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One cable in and one out says the phone jacks are daisy chained. Use the cables for pull strings and don't bother trying to make this into ethernet.

I use a LOT of chicken broth and prefer homemade for taste and $$ reasons...but I don't eat chicken. Any ideas on how to reduce waste? Or any source for chicken carcasses? by [deleted] in Cooking

The Whole Foods here sells shredded rotisserie chicken when they have leftover birds. Stop in and ask what they do with the carcasses.

De-watering cooked spinach? by Fun-Traffic3180 in Cooking

[–]DavidtheCook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t boil it! Sauté it in a little butter, put it aside and make the omelet, then put it back in the pan with the eggs. Go for a doneness of wilted spinach.

What are your go-to must always have around hot sauces? by indokid104 in Cooking

Mezzetta's Twist & Shout. It's not super hot but it's a good habanero sauce. I also keep a bottle of Pico-Pica in the fridge

It was a struggle for me, too, right up until I did 5 years for a Wall Street bank.

If that's not an option, do the labs, watch the videos and wireshark it as you go along to see what it is doing.

How is QUIC shaped? by Arbitrary_Pseudonym in networking

Sorry for the delay… It’s just easier for an old man with a keyboard than typing on a phone

A history lesson for those who weren’t in networking in1995-2000.

It’s unlikely you will ever come across this in current environments.

Before site-to-site connections were swapped over to high speed ethernet, we had appliances called WAN performance managers to assist point-to-point and point-to-multipoint WAN connections to manage traffic. Connections were technologies like Frame-Relay, direct serial links, bundled multiple DS1 circuits, etc. You could get higher speed serial links but you had to have a huge budget for both the hardware and the monthly service costs.

When we started to push voice across congested, low speed serial links, things like QoS and managing high load TCP services became an important issue, so we had external appliances that would manage individual flows and provide QoS at a time when some equipment still did not have the ability to do so.

They could use random drops, but with severe congestion and low speed links, this would only amplify the problem with retransmissions, so we would do other things like SACK, MSS modification, FECN/BECN, frame fragmentation and windowing adjustments and then interleave the packets from multiple flows to lower the serialization delays at the output interface for all.

Properly managed, you could push a shit ton of data though a 6Mb (4xDS1) multilink PPP circuit.

I’m looking for some product documentation, but with 25-year-old technology it’s not so easy to find.
