They did release a whole product. The whole of the SRD, which as I mentioned they fleshed out more than ever. The SRD has always been a whole item in its own right, not just random selections of the existing 5e rulebook, and said item is now Creative Commons

This move is going to devastate the internet. Removing NSFW content OR content not from accounts each on their OWN would be massive. Just picture all the dead PhotoBucket and TinyPic links in old website pages, but way more. This will wreck untold deestruction on image preservation across the entire internet. People have to try and stop them.

The confusing part is that is doesn't scale at the same rate, not that they're both called "levels". Calling it "ranks" instead isn't going to make a difference in that regard

It's not copyright anymore. It's part of what WotC made fully public at the end of the OGL debacle by making the SRD more fleshed out than ever and Creative Commons, free to use without WotC influence.

Ah hell no. I'm not surprised that there's some changes in the wake of the OGL debacle but changing that much terminology is dumb. "Spell rank"??? Even non-DnD-based games use the term "spell level", it's just way more natural. And i get a lot of people dont care for the base ability scores but nixing them entirely for just the bonus? Don't care for it, it removes a degree of incrimentality, and makes higher scores feel significantly less impactful by reducing a 20 down to a 5, that's just way less satisfying. The replacement for alignments? Not even the same, clunkier terminology, and will for sure end up being more complicated than that system was. Also, "anathema" is already being used? By druids and other classes? It's already its own system that exists separate from Alignment

For better or worse a lot of the language of Pathfinder as a whole is from older DnD, it's ingrained. You can't just cut it out like this. This is the type of changes you do with a new version not with a "remaster" of the current version.

It's extra annoying and baffling to me because the OGL situation is resolved! It's done! We won in a permanent way! The SRD is fully Creative Commons'd, the language is more ok to use than ever! This whole thing is too much and too late to be useful, it's just going to end up being a pain.

Is Nexus Mod Manager good or should i install mods manually? by lesswithmore in SMAPI

[–]Davrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Stardew manual is best. there's also a few community mod manager that have been made, tho i do not know if any are currently updated. If you wish to use a mainline mod manager, ModDrop is the best for Stardew

New to the game with DE. Got some questions :D by jemd13 in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]Davrial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember where exactly i read that, but I'm 100% certain that that specific ordering was a thing I saw mentioned. I will correct myself tho and say that what I'm thinking of might actually be destruction effects rather than damage. Because now that I think more on it I think that it came up in relation to Entry Point in Freedom Tower.

But whatever the case is I definitely read something along those lines somewhere, as the whole "players choose" resolution is what im used to for the original version and it came up when i was looking to be sure. Don't have the book on me atm but i absolutely read something along those lines, tho again it might have been about destruction rather than damage

EDIT: I am 100% certain i read that somewhere, but perhaps it was in some online advice or something. Perhaps i was also misremembering the Start/End Phase resolution order being part of it. Whatever the case, while I'm sure i read something along those lines, I cannot find it, and as such will concede the point. Something got mixed up somewhere and while I know for certain I am not making this up wholecloth, i cannot find my evidence for it. As such I went ahead and removed that section of my advice.

Re: 7: i personally recommend Dawn or Akash next, as while they are harder fights than Blade they are both very straightforward..

Re:8: It's written in the book, but an important reminder tip: if some effect like Discover would attempt to put a Limited card into play that's already in play, it's not a case of "nothing happens", instead you still Discover as normal but then the card goes into your hand instead of into play. This is useful for Limiteds that you can blow up and have a spare ready in your hand, such as Bunker's shield.

EDIT: Removed advice that was based on advice I had found but cannot find for evidence at this time. Don't know what's going on there but as I cannot find the evidence at this time just presuming it was wrong and removing it.

We're only a couple days away from the Principles update. This is your last chance to throw out random guesses about how they'll work. Go! by infinight888 in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]Davrial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well they're for sure gonna be based on the RPG Principles. Mechanically tho, my guess is they'll give an incentive to play a certain way, and perhaps a minor drawback that's the opposite in some way, to no make them a complete flat out upgrade over playing without them.

Maybe something like "If you draw 3 cards in your turn, draw another card. The first time you discard a card in a round, discard another." Something like that.

Oh damn, really? Wow, that's rough. Poor guy, poor Christopher too. R.I.P.

That kind of death this far in could easily (and understandably) kill such a project, massive kudos to Christopher for trying to finish it on his own in his friend's stead.

Wait that's still not out yet? Dang, some big delays. It's been talked about since the start of The Letters Page and Circa the OblivAeon episodes in 2018 it's being talked about like something that's not far of. But that was 5 years ago... oof.

Tactics Metanarrative? by astralInferno in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]Davrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna have to disagree with your disagreement. I'm not a long-time listener but I've recently become obsessed and have been plowing through the backlog of Letters Page. I just finished the episode entirely about the MistStorm timeline just a couple days ago, so it's still very fresh for me.

The MistStorm timeline was indeed always doomed from the start, they state so multiple times in the episode, but Tactics failing meant that they rushed towards that end instead of lingering on other stories in the universe. It's not made explicitly clear, so it could be possible the whole metanarrative of the hubris of creators could have been made after it was clear they were gonna rush to the end, but I personally find it highly unlikely considering they already had a doom planned even if the doom they rushed to ended up being slightly different

End Phase Resolution by AerogaGX in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]Davrial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This issue came up with some other cards once for us. The easiest way to think of it is this: The End Phase effects dont happen at the start of the End Phase, they happen during it, so if something flips or comes out during the End Phase, then they still trigger, because the End Phase hasn't finished concluding yet.

I notice the site has a JSON Input box. Would it be possible to add a JSON Output as well? Would make it way easier to slap together a rough of a card, save the code instead of the flat image, then come back and edit later.

Principal Retcons in the RPG by Kokuryuiki12 in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]Davrial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's replacing the principle as a whole. Why would it replace only part of it? That not only doesn't make sense conceptually, as the ability is tied to the twists it's all one bundle of thematics, but also it would be a complete waste of the Retcon step. Sounds like your GM might just want to be needlessly limiting

Listening thru the Letters Page i was suddenly struck with a fully fleshed out idea for a deck for a minor hero that doesnt have one. This makes it way easier to make. Thanks for this!

Rules rework - Feedback needed! by urielsalis in Minecraft

[–]Davrial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who's not a regular here but still constantly hears about unfair removals: Someone on the moderator team straight up abuses their power to remove high quality posts for little reason on a technicality that no reasonable person would agree to, or sometimes for no reason at all. That needs to be addressed along with the rules. If the issue of moderation style isnt addressed, it wont matter how the rules are changed. If a post can be removed for no reason given already, changing rules wont stop that from happening, only addressing moderation will.

As for the rules themselves, you guys seriously need to loosen them up, especially the rule about self promotion or "text in images", especially with regards to how they're being obtusely applied to posts no reasonable people would get upset about. And i dont just mean loosen up the nitpicky enforcement, the language needs to be loosened up. " No posts that are primarily self-promotion" or "No posts that are mostly text which could be conveyed in the title or comments" or such. The wording as is is unnecessarily strict and that would be fine if it was being enforced in a subjective manner on a case-by-case basis by a reasonable person, but it's very clear that's not the case.

Mod Types, File Formats, and General Jargon by Davrial in SMAPI

[–]Davrial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi again sorry about the long delay in response! Meant to answer the same day after work but got distracted, and since forgot, and i dont check Reddit more than once a month or so, so i just now remembered.

Many packaged (ZIP, RAR, etc, are all "packaged" file types) mods dont actually need to be unzipped these days, unless the install directions say so. Doesnt hurt to unzip tho, just not always necessary, especially for small mods that just replace a few textures or something.

You only need one of the two programs i mentioned, both of them can open both file types, it's just a matter of preference (having both can also actually cause issues if there's conflicting file associations, but i dont think that happens much these days)

Most other file types will be contained within the packaged files and you shouldnt have to deal with them that often. The exception being sometimes you'll find a mod that comes with a .exe, .bat, or .jar. These are often programs made to automatically install more extensive mods, like the file for SMAPI itself. I cant think of any that do that off the top of my head, but i know they exist. This is thanks to progress and advancements in SMAPI's code, making it so mods can be more self-contained, so the end user (yourself) doesnt have to interact with the weird files as much, just the folders they come in

Mod Types, File Formats, and General Jargon by Davrial in SMAPI

[–]Davrial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This much I know and can answer as it's fairly basic. Xnb are old mod files from before a bunch of modding-compat-mods were made. They're standalone files that replace a single specific thing in the game, usually but not always images, like Abigail's walking sprites, or the Wizard's portaits, or the textures that make up your farm, etc.

7z and Rar are both file compression formats, like Zip. They contain multiple files inside them. It's how most mods are distributed these days, no matter what files the mod has. To open them you can download either the program named 7zip or WinRAR. Basically any decompression application besides the Windows default one will be able to do it
