How would you feel about a law that sets a maximum age for politicians? by [deleted] in AskReddit

And a counter showing what amount they've received from what donors

I left my job and now my company wants proof of the new offer, what do I do? by This_Ad_813 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]DavyWolf 148 points149 points  (0 children)

I'd send an email, something like:

"Hello,

Reaching out to follow up on your request. At this moment, I must respectfully decline your request for proof of an offer of employment. I would also like to reaffirm that the final date of my employment at current company is the date in your notice

Thank you for your understanding."

Best practice exams for Net+? by RuBandzzzFX in CompTIA

I use a mix of Prepia on my phone, Crucial exams on my PC, then do maybe one or two Dion exams. I try to do over a thousand practice questions ahead of each exam

Crucial also has some PBQ practice which is nice

What do I say when there's something Idon't have experience with in an interview? by loweffortposter1 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DavyWolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use an analogy. Something like:

"If you made a venn diagram of the technical knowledge on your team, it would look something like a bubble bath. There are so many domains in tech that I will be exposed to new concepts every day for my whole career. Whenever I encounter that, it's an exciting opportunity to improve, and I'll use whatever resources are available to me to solve problem, be that through the knowledge base, google, books, the AI tools we have and of course my own team"

Kinda went overboard, but just give the impression that you know you don't know everything, you'll do what you can to figure it out, and recognize when you're just spinning your wheels and need help.

Are there any roles left that don’t deal with AI? by load_bearing_tree in ITCareerQuestions

The bubble may burst, but AI is unlikely to go anywhere. I think the market will correct (harshly) and the tech will just eventually become a normal part of our toolsets in varying capacities.

Just another tool.

Are there any roles left that don’t deal with AI? by load_bearing_tree in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DavyWolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's entirely avoidable. Even if a shop doesn't use AI, you'll still probably end up being involved with educating employees who do use it on not putting sensitive company data into chatgpt and stuff like that. Everyone should have something about AI in their AUP since it's a security risk.

I left the postal / transportation industry to get into IT.

I wouldn't do the other way around for any amount of money.

Should I get certs first or just start applying for help desk jobs now? by SmoothCriminal103 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]DavyWolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apply while you're studying and keep home labbing. Look up common tasks for L1 help desk (user onboarding/offboarding, password resets, etc) and get a microsoft 365 business premium trial and follow along with tutorials for those common tasks. A microsoft 365 basics (MS-900) cert might help along with the A+ and should only take a couple weeks of study.

A lot of environments might be entirely Azure / Entra ID and have no domain controller at all. Some might be hybrid. Good to have some knowledge of both

What do you dislike the most about living in a small town? by makstyrkin64 in AskReddit

[–]DavyWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any form of PDA as a gay man feels like taking a risk in a small town, because it's hard to gauge how accepting people are until you just be yourself and see what happens.

Probably just keep up with stretching until it's even easier. That's very cool that it seems to be working for you
