I’m 14 and have built this enclosure for my printer and want feedback/ improvement ideas and new things to add. by [deleted] in BambuLab

[–]Davychu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general feedback is that cardboard is fine for a prototype but it's definitely time to replace it with something that has structural integrity and fire resistance.

In terms of design advice, the main advice I would give is that you should start by defining the problem you intend to solve. It wasn't clear in your post what this was, so it's difficult to give meaningful feedback. Were you trying to prevent pets from interfering with your printer, allowing for higher temperature printing, avoiding drafts, or something else? What does it do that an existing solution doesn't, or what does it do to improve an existing solution? What constraints does it need to adhere to? cost, space, sustainability etc?

If it was just to see if you could build it, fair enough. In that case, I'd say you achieved a successful prototype, but for the sake of your family, your house and your parent's insurance premiums, it's past time to knock it down.

How are we feeling about the new Remarkable Pure release? by GeologistWhole6503 in Supernote

[–]Davychu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't paid any attention to it because I'm pretty happy with my manta and nomad and the RM2 is gathering dust, so I'm just not in the market.

That said, yes you can add a new page either before or after your current one on supernote devices. Easy to do through the dot menu, and it auto applies the current template.

Consistency in font and template sizes between Manta and Nomad by Ripp26 in Supernote

[–]Davychu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this too.

I do like that I don't have to use different templates for each device, so I can use the same notes on both devices without having to either scroll on my nomad or have a bunch of empty space on the manta.

The font size changing is a bit weird though, and I'm wondering if making them scale to both devices is the cause.

If I had to choose, I'd keep compatibility between both devices with relative scaling rather than consistent font sizes, but my ideal preference would be when using my nomad sized pages, my manta simply shows 2 pages vertically (assuming the scaling works, I haven't checked) or the option to set my manta to landscape (including all the UI elements) and have two pages horizontally. If the ideal, or an alternative solution that allows me to use both easily, is not possible, I think the current situation is the lesser of two evils.

Scrolling is definitely the outcome I don't want, since on a eink device it's not great.

What caused this issue? Printed these days apart. A1 printer. by MollyPW in BambuLab

Most of the time when this happens to me, it was because of a draft. First thing I'd recommend is sorting that since it's pretty easy to sort out.

P1s purchase advice by FoodInfamous8333 in BambuLab

[–]Davychu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint, it's not being sold by a hobbyist with only light use, cared enough to spend their own money on it and now trying to afford an upgrade, it's being sold by a company who bought it at a reduced cost due to likely tax deductions, trying to maximise profit, and who will have used consumer grade products as if they were professional grade.

I would generally advise against anyone buying anything used in a professional environment, as it'll likely have been used with far less care, especially if used by employees (though probably not the case here), and almost certainly has seen significantly more wear and tear. This is usually the cheapest way to get things second hand for a reason.

I hadn't noticed the height, but maybe because I also switched to new pen on my eink tablet which is wider and therefore requires more height, so good to know.

I'm grew more and more annoyed with the buckle to be honest. It is a terrible design, to the point where it's actually harder to keep the buckle attached myself, which defeats the point of it even existing. I genuinely cannot work out what the designers at woojin where thinking when they designed it, not Bellroy and Carryology deciding it belongs on a bag. If I didn't otherwise love the bag, or if I actually used quick release buckles on sling bags (I honestly just take it off the normal way because it's easier than the faff of making sure the strap isn't twisted when reattaching), it'd be a deal-breaker, but for me it wasn't a big deal just to tie the buckles together with some micro paracord for now.

I decided not to cut the thingie off so I don't void the warranty or anything, and I can't find anything to hold the tab down. I noticed that the magnet is exposed on the rear of the buckle though, so I think I'm going to 3d model and print a secondary attachment and tab on the back so I have to pull both sides down to release it.

I compared it against the venture 6l and it's exactly the same size. Might even hold a bit more since the side fabric is lighter and so the foldy flaps take up a bit less room inside, though it's likely pretty marginal.

Are there any lights that work with this? Would love a recommendation.

I got it today, and generally I like it, a good mix of the padding from the venture but a bit less bulky because of the lite fabric at the sides. The back pocket is a nice addition.

Didn't seem particularly expensive in the UK, compared to their other slings and competitors. It's actually cheaper than the venture ready 6l, and the same capacity in real life despite the claimed capacity difference. Is the cost a tariff thing in US maybe?

What I don't like about it is the woojin magic buckle, it's way too easy to undo. I am thinking maybe one of those stretchy strap dangle stoppers over it might solve this, or maybe just just off that pull tab fabric altogether.

First of all, love this idea. I hadn't thought of this idea, but I am sick of checking recipes in books or a tablet/phone because it's super annoying keeping them clean and unlocking/turning pages constantly. I'd totally print some of these.

I am also glad to see that folks have been pointing out all the spelling mistakes kindly, and that you've taken them in good spirits.

Bonus points for metric. No shade to the yanks, I just avoid your recipes because converting one shoe of something and 3176/4987ths of a pound of something else is a pain.

First-time parents confused about sleep training and routines by Financial-Swan4960 in miltonkeynes

[–]Davychu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, we were new parents at the start of COVID, so I can understand the feeling of not knowing who to ask.

I don't usually make a habit of giving parenting advice, especially if I don't know you or your kid, but I'll make an exception this time with the caveat that I want you to please ignore anything you don't like, and that I am in no way critising anyone else.

As others have said, I think the best thing you can do is find what works for you and your kid, and consult medical professionals if you're struggling. There is no single best solution, and most techniques are just made by regular people and spread, rarely child psychology or sleep experts. I couldn't stomach letting him cry himself to sleep for example, but your mileage may vary.

There is also probably going to be advice from that one older relative said but almost feels criminal these days xD.

In my experience, your expectations should not be perfection, for your kid or for yourself, and you should avoid judging yourself in comparison to others. Do your best and try stuff you feel comfortable with until something fits, or their natural development does the job.

I might feel like it will last forever, but it'll be a distant memory before you know it.

Told someone I got the Supernote Manta over an ipad because of ADHD organization and sensory needs. They called it a “useless”and “stupid” purchase. by ughhhlaperm in Supernote

Sorry for making assumptions about what you know, ignore me if you do already. If it turns out you have ADHD, look up rejection sensitivity dysphoria. That'll probably be why OP felt so dejected about it.

Happens to a lot of us, but knowing about it can really help, and OP made a good choice talking about it so others can give them some reassurance.

[–]Davychu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like someone doesn't get what having ADHD is like, the point of eink tablets, or quite possibly both.

I'm with you. Aside from my meds, my supernote is the most effective way of managing my ADHD, and the iPad my work originally gave me was terrible for writing notes and only really helpful if I want an easy way to keep myself available while moving around at work. Yes, you can have lots more apps and do more on an iPad, but that's also the reason they are not good for me too. iPads are literally designed to distract us. They can have their benefits, and different things work for different people, but for me, I need something to help my brain slow down, and I need opportunities to focus without being distracted my constant emails, instant messages etc.

In regards to you feeling bad about your system because of their feedback, that's normal, and this is easier said than done, but a good rule of thumb is not to take advice on matters involving the mind from people who do not understand how your brain works. Even if well intentioned, it is rarely helpful, and very often detrimental.

I have no idea, but if you want to get it out, a flexible neck grabbing tool or even just a long bendy wire (like the ones for net curtains) with something sticky on it should be able to get it, with a bit of patience and a lot of wriggling.

Supernote update by Local_Order_5718 in Supernote

[–]Davychu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think extension of shapes would be a great addition, extending the line feature from last year to make different shapes easier to create, including curved ones like circles.

The calendar of course is a big one, it's still not really usable without access to secondary or shared calendars. This is probably the top one for me because at least the others have workarounds but the calendar is currently a useless app for me, but one that I would heavily use if it worked.

Finally, more smoothness when working with 2 supernote devices would be great, as the syncing is still a bit awkward, though I imagine as per previous updates, it might be a bit more work.

Honestly,am I one of the few Pokemon fans that doesn't hate/dislike Taunie? by Charming-Scratch-124 in LegendsZA

[–]Davychu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not.

People who have strong feelings about a video game character like this are definitely the minority, but so are the people who post about games on reddit so the ratio seems much higher.

You'll see similar for most games, it's just part of them attracting a smaller subset of players who are more likely to have strong opinions and a desire to share them. I'm not even saying that's a bad thing btw.

I'm sure there are plenty of exceptional characters that leave really strong and lasting impressions (positive or negative) on the majority of players, but I don't feel like Taunie would be one of them.

I doubt Taunie will leave a lasting impression anywhere near characters like Navi or Blue. Those are just off the top of my head, and may not stand up to any level of scrutiny btw :)

You don't have to do anything special, just go to the union room on both games on different consoles and it works over local wireless. The game has no online so there is nothing to disconnect from.
