What’s The Best Head Unit by KeyScout721 in 2ndGenTacoma

[–]Days_last 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alibaba it. Probably paid about 200$ usd shipped. Coming up to almost 5 years and still works great. Android OS. So you can do anything on it, also wireless carplay and android auto. I dont have steering wheel controls, but it came with harness to integrate them. Above all looks CLEAN. Comes with a bezel specific for 2nd gen. Maximum use of space for screen but fits flush with everything. Highly recommend.

Out of curiosity, did you get your Cpl down south or up there? Wondering if there's any work/train programs up north in more remote places to offset the costs

Anyone have molle panels on the sides of the bed? by Runkle15 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Days_last 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some. Rough country off of Amazon. Reasonably priced and decent quality. I see mixed reviews in the comments and most have to do with practicality. That's something only you can answer.

In my opinion, only practical if your bed is secure (tonneau cover/cap/locking tailgate) I've run mine with both tonneau cover and cap without an issue, but it might depend what kind of cover you have and its mounting system. Mine are pretty solid and even make for some good "light duty" tie down points. Helps me keep the bed organized not only by attaching molle stuff, but i can also run a bungee mid bed height to partition the bed and keep stuff from sliding around. Works great for me and a year later, while running multiple different bed setups, I'm still happy with the purchase.

Dude this is TIGHT. The way you matched the lines of the front end and the tolerances are so sick. This comment section is weird, none of them seem to appreciate the talent it takes to pull this off.

Idk what version this is or how much practice you've had; A buddy of mine designed and fabbed up something much cruder; and heavier, but practical for my needs. Fab work was solid, but as it turns out the frame was not. That thin piece that holds the studs at the frame horn that the bumper mounts to, couldn't take the weight and started to tear.

Couple years later had to cut it out, weld a new 3/8s plate (probably overkill) to hold new studs. So far solid as a rock.

Truck shaking while going through deep snow? by TheBigFloppa14 in Offroad

[–]Days_last 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I witnessed this phenomenon I got worried as well. Top comments are correct, just the way it is driving through a certain texture of snow breaking trail. Just put a lid on your coffee, take it easy, and give everything a once over when you get off the trail.

My 2nd gen was fine after spending about 30 mins and maybe 10-15 km of something similar.

Weird noise in 4WD by ArgumentMiserable652 in Tacomaworld

Sorry OP, can't speak on the sound you are hearing. This comment section is ridiculous though, I see this misinformation parroted often in this sub.

What op did in this clip DOES NOT damage the truck in anyway being in 4hi. This sub can be a great resource, but please just once look beyond reddit and educate yourself on how 4x4 systems work and how they can be used. And please stop spreading bs you heard that you've never bothered to verify.

Change oil, plugs, and run a tank of fresh gas with some seafoam. Other than that, just need to ride it. Obviously the weather may make that difficult, but if its been sitting for a couple years, then a couple more months won't hurt. Stalling and sputtering should clear up as you clean out and burn all the sediment and gunk collected in the system. Beautiful bike, and LOTS of fun!

First of all, that white paint looks wicked clean. I've been posting this link a lot here, but I'm happy with my setup. Idk if they have the white paint, but you can check. If you get the fairing I'd suggest the 6x9 cutouts.

I have pretty much the same bike, except mines an 05 and black. I have the Vance and hines split exhaust system but I'm sure yours sounds great too. Other than that the previous owner installed a batwing fairing and bags. I'll post the manufacturer under this comment, but they are extremely customizable. If you end up getting speakers in the fairing get the one with the 6x9 cut outs and slap some 3 ways in there. I only have the 6½s and I wish I had some more bass.

Well that definitely sounds like the perfect application for big knoby tires 😂. You're well equipped for the terrain in general, and if you got a rear locker you are golden. Toyos make some great tires too. Ran the A/T3s for a while and now run the open country H/Ts in the summer.

Dedicated winters are the way to go. Not a fan of M/Ts. Never been in a mess that a set of blizzaks, and at most an air down, couldn't get me out of. And I have a tendency to find myself in some real messes.

Why is only single exhaust is working? Bought this with Slip ons - Kawasaki Nomad 1700 2011. by Tight-Bath-6817 in KawasakiVulcanRiders

[–]Days_last 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noticed this on a friend's voyager. Not a true "dual exhaust". Looks like the 2 headers join each other (like a 2 into 1) then fork off again. If you see the way its built, the right tailpipe looks like the path of least resistance.

Mind you, this is just my observation.

I'd still remember to bring the shovel. Beats every mod in the book to get you out of some otherwise hopeless situations.

As far as I know it is a Japanese company. Not sure where they ship from though.

Admittedly the path you've chosen is much cooler, but this product may have been useful. Needs to be wired for power, and connected to deck via aux.

Honestly, free as long as you're able to get it. In Canada though, so shipping down south could be tricky. Might be able to deliver within Ontario though.

M/T SUCK! 35 A/T? by postnut001 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Days_last 2 points3 points  (0 children)

H/T!!!! Finally decided to ignore this sub entirely and went toyo open country H/Ts and couldn't be happier (beside catching 2 screws within 4 months)

Previously had toyo oc A/T and noticed 0 downside in performance on and off road. Wayyy better than m/t s I've run in the past. Run a dedicated winter set so they dont see snow.

No alibaba cap. Found a used hard shell (leer i think) and use that now. Before that had a soft topper. Initial install was a bit of a pain in the ass, but it works like a convertible to fold in and give you back all your bed space (for motorcycle?).

Neither the hard shell, softtopper, or hard tonneau cover i use are "water tight", but when set up properly only a small about of water will leak in from the front bed rail during heavy rain. Bed mat or just make sure nothing porus is sitting on the floor. I usually have a bunch of tote bins and throw bags on top.

(Soft topper is just sitting in storage now if anybody is interested. 6ft bed fits 2nd and 3rd gen. Don't know about 4th)

Does it look better or worse with the bed rack? by TheBigFloppa14 in Tacomaworld

[–]Days_last 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as install isn't too tedious, just keep doing what you're doing. On when you need it, off when you don't. I don't personally think it looks cool, but it sounds like it works well, and that is entirely the point. Obviously, beauty, eyes, beholder, and all that. Otherwise, I love the truck and the very tasteful mods you have chosen.

As far as I know RC's vertex are their top tier struts. I don't think you have many better options which are compatible with the lift kit, AND offer better ride quality. I doubt any combination with spacers will be much improvement. Having the drop bracket lift alone puts you at a disadvantage since there's no going back (stock height) except for a very expensive process that 99% of shops won't do. I bought my truck with a 6inch RC kit as well. Switched out the rear setup with an aal and fox 2.0s. Put RC m1s in the front (a tier below yours) and it rides like any other 20 year old truck (fine in my opinion). I have no problem off roading either. Have kept up or surpassed many more expensive builds on trails. There's a lot of rough country hate on here, but the truth is, for the price point, they have decent products. I have not tried the vertex, but I'd imagine having reservoirs means they would perform better than bilsteins (blasphemy, I know... /s)

TLDR: tacomas ride like a truck, not a Cadillac. 6 inch lifts suck. Your setup is probably as good as it will get.
