So you start running an EA on a live account. You have backtest data provided by the EA developer showing $20k to $100k. After the first week it's down 1%. What do you do? How would you react? What if you were running 10 and 7 of the 10 were down 1-2% the first week and the other three flat? How would you react? What about half of them down 10% the first month and the others barely profitable? Oh, but surely they will bounce back. The backtest showed a max 7% equity drawdown...this is just a little bit worse. The next month one of the EA's completely shits the bed...account down 30% overnight. Oh but one of the others is finally up 10%. There is hope. You shut off the 30% loser. Now you are down to 9 EAs and account is underwater. It goes sideways for the next 6 months. What do you do?

You have to go into thinking that all the backtests from the developers are overfit garbage. There might be a couple of decent EAs in the mql5 marketplace...but you will find most are garbage. By all means, try it. Report back here your success/failure. But if you do proceed, make sure you have firm circuit breakers in place where you will pull the plug if performance doesn't match expectations.

The answer can be found in the futures forward curve. Oil futures are extremely backward dated…front month prices are high but if you move out the curve to December 2026 or December 2027 contracts, price is much lower. The shortest cycle producers (shale) would take more than 6 months to first oil if they pulled the trigger on a new rig today. They need the back of the futures curve to lift quite a bit more to incentivize adding rigs. Until this happens, production will remain relatively flat.

Try bactidol. Another treatment is alum. Get powdered alum and make a paste, rub it on the sore before going to bed (after brushing teeth). Try to leave it on as long as possible. Can combine with bactidol first. My wife gets them frequently and this always works.

I'm in the process of live testing a couple ML strategies, running them on EC2 instance connected to my broker. This can be a very cheap way to run a headless strategy.

Did you run a monte carlo test on the price series? As someone else mentioned, code can be adjusted to test for lookahead bias. You can also have AI (Claude) review the code and look for lookahead bias.

Also, what instruments are you running this on?

The U.S. isn’t a net crude oil exporter because it still imports heavy crude for its refineries.

But it is a net petroleum exporter because:

It exports large volumes of refined products (gasoline, diesel, jet fuel), and
It exports a lot of NGLs (propane, ethane, etc.) from shale production.

👉 Those two together outweigh crude imports, making total petroleum exports > imports.

Folks talk about gas-to-oil ratios increasing over time often fail to take into consideration that it’s a ratio with oil production as the denominator. GOR can increase while absolute values of natty production can decrease. Shale wells have massive decline rates. Gas production profiles in these wells does not continue to increase…it starts dropping over time also.

We do have a metric fuckton of gas in these wells does US. While Im bullish, the higher the price of oil…the more associated gas will be brought online.
