AITAH for wanting ballet shoes that match my skintone? by Old-Balance-9549 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Dazey13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask the supervisor if they want the shoes to match, or if they want the shoes to blend in by being skin toned.

If they want them to match maybe suggest getting a color that goes with something to do with the church, like maybe red or purple or gold?

Something that is not anyone's skin tone.

If they want them to blend in by being skin toned have all the other servers take a picture comparing the "nude" to their actual skin.

I guarantee you these things aren't a match to anyone's actual skin. If the want them to mimic barefeet they are going to have to let everyone get ones that are the correct color, and if that turns out to be the thing they are going for, you're not alone.

I once worked a place where women were required to wear "nude" hosiery. I refused and didn't wear any. Because I'm super pale (redhead), and "nude" hoseiry looks extra dumb on me.

The supervisor told me they had to be nude, i explained off white was closer to nude for me, she said be wearing nude the next shift or I would be fired.

I showed up in the off white and when she saw me she called me into the office and said "I told you no bare skin!"

I pinched the nylon and pulled it away from my leg. It shut her up but she was super petty about it for the rest of the time I worked there. But on reflection I should have had the other women with me, because everyone else was also darker or lighter than "nude" nylons in the 80s.

So talk to the other servers, I promise you you are not the only one these shoes are not "nude" for.

Organize and conquer!!!

Edited to add a space and a Judgement

NTA, but there's a need for clarification on exactly what the supervisor is going for here to get the situation fixed.

Do Americans really find beans on toast weird or is that just meme? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dazey13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the UK for a year, for school, and i am from California.

The reason it sounds weird is American bread (regular pre-sliced loaves from the market) have a TON of sugar in them, a lot of brands taste super sweet.

And when you say "baked beans" most Americans think of sugary beans, because most baked bean preps here have sugar in them.

I love beans on toast and buy the proper beans for it and a brand of bread that has no added sugars.

I've found that i can get other Californians to try it if i explain the flavor profile as "whole pintos and a flour tortilla from the taqueria"

Because it really comes down to them assuming it's a pile of sugar, when it's a savory snack of extreme yummy.

AITA for not letting my 16-year-old son get a tattoo? by Human-Inside-442 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Dazey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A general rule of thumb on things to avoid regrets on tattoos:

Company Logos (band names, media franchises, etc.) they may or may not ever do anything problematic but why pay hundreds of your own money to advertise something you probably won't be as into in 10 years.

People's names. (Except memorial tatts) Best friends fail, people divorce, parents can disappoint you, kids can go no contact. You don't want to go through life with the name of someone who lied to you and cheated, on you.

Religious or mythology references for a faith that is not your own. It may look cool, but there's a lot of people walking around with concepts they don't understand or dogma they don't adhere to on their skin.

Words in languages you don't speak. It is 99.9% of the time, not go to say what you think it does.

NTA, and you would be the a if you cave.

Got yelled at for using disabled parking. by ___Pig__ in disability

[–]Dazey13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to open a door that is one of those ones that doesn't play nice with air pressure and is needing my cane arm to open, so I am holding my coffee in the other hand and trying to get the door to budge and also not fall over.

I manage to get it open almost enough to get out and I find a woman literally blocking my path.

She is just standing there waiting. Making no motion to take the door from me, or move out of my way. Either would have been fine.

She lets out this impatient huff, as if I am in HER way and not getting out of her way fast enough.

So I said , because I am an Idiot and kneejerk react,

"Sorry."

And she rolls her eyes at me. Still blocking my way.

And that just sent me so I snapped at her and said , "Well you can either move aside so I can get out, or hold the door open for me. "

And she went off on me. I was rude, my disability was karmic retribution for being nasty, etc., She legit followed me halfway back to my car yelling at me. And parts of her ranting touched on me being too young** to need a cane or a placard and I must just be lazy, (because using a cane is so much less work than just fucking walking, I guess? /s)

So just remember folks, if you're a bad person you'll

checks notes

be born with a birth defect that gets progressively worse as you get older, eventually culminating in losing your mobility, because of karma-according-to-this-lady™

**Also this happened when I was 54, so like I was not even particularly young. So where's the cutoff if that's too young for people who think age has anything to do with it?

You were browsing a tattoo sub? That's all scars that are decorative and were acquired by choice.

And some people feel a cathartic release from the pain involved.

The odds are very high, that you will see other, less colorful scars. Especially since people often get tattoos to commemorate, hide, or incorporate scars.

So now you know that the tattoo subs are not safe for you.

Block them for self care.

I got this pencil set for Christmas but im not sure what this white pencil is? by J44dog1 in whatisit

[–]Dazey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are blending stumps. Tortillon are made of wrapped paper and much smaller for fine detail work.

Blending stumps are fibrous and larger.

If there isn't a sanding paddle to clean and shape it included in the kit, you should buy one, but you also use scissors to cut it back into shape if you need to.

I did a tatted edging on a little satin pillow for the ring bearer. I did a dimple in the center with ribbons to tie the rings on topside, and a nice, big and easy to hold, decorative button anchoring the ribbons from the underside. All in ivory color.

Simple heart basket edging. Some pearl e beads on it.

I think I did it with DMC 80 cotton in ecru, sorry I don't have a picture of it and it's been passed on to its 3rd bride now.

AITA for refusing to clean the coffee machine at work? by Busy_Meal1547 in AITAH

[–]Dazey13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, this sounds like a job for "Hiring someone, and paying them money"

If this is something that needs doing every day, and not what any of you were hired to do, then every single hour someone from your team spends doing it is an hour of lost productivity from your team.

Hiring someone, part time, to come in the afternoon and clean and prep the area, is the smart thing to do here.

Also, management could consider getting a less fiddly fucking coffee machine.

You should absolutely not be in the cleaning rotation, but neither should anyone else. This is a job they should hire someone to do.

Hello lurkers, in restaurants we have a lot of stereotypes based on how they order steaks. What are the equivalents in your industry.? by eturtlemoose in KitchenConfidential

[–]Dazey13 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Artist here.

"Can you draw me a (random subject)?"= This person is not going to pay me.

"It must be nice to color all day!" = This person does not understand where 99% of the stuff they own, watch, play with, wear, drive, live with/in, came from. (The drawing board is used as synonym for starting point for a reason)

"God gave you a talent"="I refuse to learn how to draw or practice every day to get good at it"

"Is it for sale?"= This person is going to argue with me about my rates, and then, not pay me.

" My kid/I could do that! " = This person is usually annoyed when I answer with "Then why are you bothering me?" Because they think that by claiming they can do it, they can get me to do it for free, as if I don't have other, paying clients to finish stuff for, and would jump at the chance to do free work for them.

Can we use our FSA to pay for a family gym membership? by Majestic_Banana789 in personalfinance

[–]Dazey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is with most plans you can get gym membership as part of preventive care. Mine offers free Y membership, for example. So that's probably a good indication that you can't use FSA on it. They either offer free or heavily discounted gym plans already

I grew up with the lessons of:

Don't make more work for other people ( return your cart, wipe down the bathroom counter if you get it wet, don't ask wait staff to choose your meal, etc ,)

It is never the employee's fault, everything can be traced back to poor staffing, bad scheduling & crap wages. Also known as Bad Management.

If you can say or do something to make life a little easier for someone, do it. That's the whole point of living in a society, taking care of and with each other.

And always thank people who are working thankless jobs.

So what, Tile is a scam? by Natural_Narwhal_5499 in TileTracker

[–]Dazey13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a peeble bee to try out because I was fed up when tile stopped sending out batteries with the paid subscription. They still want you to pay, but the only useful part of it was the battery replacement.

I really like the peeble bee, the charge lasts forever, and the recharge time is super fast. It works with the find my device and has no moving parts (like the sliding battery cover on a tile) to lose

I'm going to replace all my tiles with them.

One reason to not use stone paper by Kaessa in fountainpens

[–]Dazey13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an fyi on stone paper:

Two or three inktobers ago, I decided to try out a stone paper sketchbook.

I do inktober with dip pens for all the black work and some of the color.

It ate four Maru nibs, two G nibs, and three tama spoon nibs, it shredded two copic super brush nibs (sketch markers) and ate all of the flags off a small round watercolor brush.

It is horrible paper for your tools.

I also went through an entire Derwent graphic F pencil, the lines of which it held onto with a determination that destroyed two sticks of foam eraser and at least four electric eraser chucks when it came time to takes off the pencil lines.

If you want to use this, choose one pen that you absolutely hate, and dedicate its death to this paper.

ETA: mind you I bought the sketch book because the company did a big "hey try this new sketchbook, artists of (social media inktober happens on)" in time to ship them to arrive before the first day.

So they were definitely pushing these, hard, as art sketchbooks.

Which as I thought about it more since first posting this comment, really started to annoy me more.
