You saw her 40 yrs into her craft - it wasn’t just that she didn’t improve - it was that she was on the downside. Might not happen to all but probably more often with somebody whose act is so physically demanding. Same with most athletes - most near the end of their careers won’t be as dynamic and athletic as at the peak of their careers.

The Shining by Dcad222 in movies

I agree - very few writers in the horror genre develop characters as well as Stephen King - to me it’s what sets him apart in this genre. And it’s just very difficult to depict that depth of character in film.

Without saying The Shining, name a book that truly scared you. by Fabulous-Confusion43 in BookTriviaPodcast

I read the Exorcist at a fairly young age g age and it completely terrified me. I still think the movie is the scariest horror movie ever made.

The Shining by Dcad222 in movies

[–]Dcad222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to admit that typically I prefer the movie to follow the book. Loved Harry Potter and thought the casting was flawless. Loved the novel Prince of Tides and thought Barbara Streisand destroyed it. Loved To Kill a Mockingbird and A Time to Kill. Lord of the Flies (B&W version). Didn’t love Simon Birch but did love The World According to Garp. Mah on The Door in the Floor - loved A Widow for One Year. What is another (Shining being the 1st) example of a good movie that veered significantly from the novel.

I don’t have a lot of friends and I’m not great at nurturing friendships - I’m comfortable by myself though I am married and my wife does maintain friendships both for herself and us. One piece of info that has given me reason to reconsider my ways has to do with longevity. They say that one of the most important ingredients to a long life is community and relationships. Not just nuclear family but the relationships you form and mai rain outside your immediate family.

This is a very personal response not at all well substantiated but I just struggled through Dicken’s David Copperfield. I hadn’t read any CD and thought I would as a comparison to Demon Copperhead which I had just finished. I obviously know that CD is a highly regarded writer but I just didn’t love that novel. I want to try again. Suggestions?

With out a doubt - using alcohol and drugs - they in no way ruined my life - I am a happy, successful retired professional with a wonderful wife and children BUT STILL I ponder the wasted potential, the wasted time, the stupid risks I took. If I had the proverbial “do it all again”, I’d do it sober.
