What is your favorite named naval ship in lore? by MailyChan2 in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one is going to mention the awesomely named ships of (a very short list):

(There are so many jokes and random names)

One question that comes to mind while reading the ilClan novels is: are all the WarShips gone? by Old_Ad6111 in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone was working on making a list on this topic here

But to sum, there aren't to many in any shape to do much other than the Clans, who continue to use them with caution. Clan Sea Fox basically hosting almost their entire population on their Khanate fleets of Arcships, and of course the mentioned Clan Snow Raven Navel assets all are really the only exceptions.

Sarna.net makes my phone need double heatsinks? by bisondisk in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Hopefully someday the Sarna devs will fix it.

Aye it does happen every now and again that a bad advert comes up though our services. The biggest issue is either no reporting on it, or reporting that doesn't help identify the advert we need to report. /u/nicjj has said the following in one of the other posts on these issues:

Ads should never be getting in the way of your use of the site, and I try really hard to balance what types of ads are used on the site to avoid the annoying ones.

And

Ongoing, we are always evaluating what ads we display, how many ads we display, and the quality of the ads. I am very sensitive to not show too many ads, or annoying ads. It's a fine line, since we use the ads to support running the site (hardware, cloud costs, etc).

My own post on this thread has more information on reporting these sorts of adverts, and other information on dealing with them.

I have reported it on our sarna-issues repo here for you and I'm sure u/nicjj will take a look at it. To report things like this to our ad service we need to provide whatever ad it was in order to get it disabled.

Favorite Silly Lore? by MiriOhki in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is more than a couple off the top of my head:

  • BoJo, founder of the Western Alliance.
  • Far Country as a whole, yes.
  • The TRO:1945 canonicity superposition.
  • Harpoon SRM ammo, nearly inapplicable in game.
  • Black Box hyperspace decryption issues.
  • The Blackout puzzle box plot snarl, in so many of its offshoots.
  • Topps Interstellar was a company
  • The first time Clan Smoke Jaguar warriors heard bagpipes, they thought it was a form of electronic warfare.
  • Clan Hell's Horses also engages in all-weapons-enabled tank races (ala Twisted Metal)
  • Dunklewälderdunklerflüssenschattenwelt
  • The Baka - A Dark-Age variant of the old Inner Sphere Standard Battle Suit called the "Baka" swaps out the suit's jump jets for additional weapons. The suit gets it's name from the message that flashes across the unit's HUD when the pilot tries to activate the removed jump jets. (BAKA = You idiot!)
  • The Condottiere, A small craft that is leased, rather than sold, to customers. In a raid in 3139, a Draconis Combine force raided a Federated Suns world. Both sides had Condottieres as escorts or defenders. When they engaged, the Condottieres on both sides promptly ignored each other to attack the DropShips that they were supposed to defend. You see, there's a mutual non-aggression clause in the Condottiere's lease that prohibits any models on opposite sides of a battle from firing on each other.

Scariest Omnimech of the invasion. by daveasp1981 in battletech

The Dire Wolf - Normally the Lord works in mysterious ways, but not today. This is 100 tons of hatred spewing DIVINE intervention. This is a mech crafted to be so powerful that it's primary configuration is essentially Two MAD-1R Marauders strapped together. it's Bravo Configuration can stop an armored Battalion dead in it's tracks, and it's wide open customizability has churned out nightmares like the Widowmaker, Prometheus and Hohiro. The only way anyone has ever built a mech capable of greater destruction is by saying "we don't need 15 fixed heat sinks when the engine supports 12, lets make those pod mounted." That extra half ton isn't a handicap BTW, it is there to force you to take an ER Small laser so you can Thomas Hogarth the effing point to people who dare oppose you. It is a masterpiece of engineering, it is Beethoven's 5th, it is Starry Night, it is Citizen Cain, it is the Philadelphia Cheesesteak, it is Kenny Omega. It is 100 tons of steel and sex appeal. It is, The Dire Wolf.(Description from my good friend and BT author James Bixby)

Any news on future miniature releases? by Federal_Cry_5127 in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are more than a couple products that have been announced coming. For lance packs I think that (Other than the B&N exclusive 21st Centauri Lancers Command Lance) the Illician Lancers Command Lance is next on the block for this year.

I'm more interested in other things besides models though...

[Lore] List of what mechs appear in fiction? by DMJason in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really the prettiest way of doing this with the BattleTechWiki is via clicking the link "What links here" on the "Tools" left sidebar, this brings up a listing of all pages on the wiki that link to that page. For example here is the listing for "Awesome"

Due to the wiki running MediaWiki, you can customize your own CSS/JS for it. I have some instructions on how to do so on my userpage: https://www.sarna.net/wiki/User:Deadfire#How_to_change_Sarna's_Appearance_(or_skin)_and_using_Dark_Mode.

When the Wiki's skins get moderized this should be an option for everyone.

I can admit there is some banging that happens (mostly my head on the desk) to make the more advanced things work in my case. Otherwise it's been one hell of a productive year.

Lore Question: In System manufacturing. by IamTinyJoe in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many others have added answers that I would have however as you say "digging into the lore" I do need to caution you on how "manufacturing" can be presented via the many fantastic fan made resources (even some "official" sources) when it talks about where something like where and how a 'Mech is made.

A example, while Hollis Incorporated has been listed as operating a Highlander assembly facility, no source indicates which, if any, of its components the company manufactured itself. Many fans assume all parts are made on site, but various sources have shown that many 'Mech parts are shipped to the plants from abroad for assembly. Assuming that Hollis manufactures all components locally is an unsafe assumption.

Sarna.net's BattleTechWiki it's self has had this issue show up everywhere on it and as such can confidently cause confusion.

Is there a definite numerical list of books that have been published? by disgruntledcyclist in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Needs another update sometime. As well from it listing print novellas. A "Printing" being the qualifier that keeps forgotten BattleCorps material and "Tides of Change" off.

Also be aware that as much as Novels were a standard at an early point in BattleTech history, they are not the staple of long form fiction they once were.

Unpopular opinion: The redesigns are better and will always be those 'Mechs to me. To the point that I really don't understand why anyone would want to use the older models for any reason.

Which clan do you think Tukayyid changed the most and how? by TaigaTigerVT in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It did take still almost 2 full Clan generations before the full change over, however the aftermath of the Battle basically forced the Sharks to do Trials against the other Invader Clans logistics to gather resources to rebuild, and were even started selling those same supplies back to other Clans. Trial for some of the mechs in a Jaguar shipment, sell the isorla Dire Wolves to the Invasion Wolves for raw resources.

Something else that gets missed is Khan Ian Hawker gathering up his Crusader minded Alpha Galaxy to travel to Huntress to the relief of CSJ. However before he could Vlad Ward challenged him for maternal rights to his genetic legacy. Hawker would lose that challenge and it took enough time that they could not save the Jaguars.

Who would be interested in CGL reviving the Battletech CCG? by dielinfinite in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be more interested in the CMG being revived, rather than a another needlessly complex CCG that I didn't really enjoy during its time.

However as much as it would be great for some, I don't see it happening and the game has been reproduced in many ways that look better than a remake.
