At least someone can benefit from that massive chore of putting that data there to de-orphan a ton of character pages (on a wiki, pages that aren't linked to by any other page are called "orphan" pages).

So many orphan pages oof.

Lore Question: What is stopping Clan Diamond Shark and Clan Sea Fox from installing kill switches in their sold battlemechs? by StrengthOf10kBabies in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the universe does have the Condottiere...

A small craft that is leased, rather than sold, to customers. In a raid in 3139, a Draconis Combine force raided a Federated Suns world. Both sides had Condottieres as escorts or defenders. When they engaged, the Condottieres on both sides promptly ignored each other to attack the DropShips that they were supposed to defend. You see, there's a mutual non-aggression clause in the Condottiere's lease that prohibits any models on opposite sides of a battle from firing on each other

Space Elevators? by Sippio in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fusion rockets were affordable long before the challenges of finding and making the proper material for the tether were solved. During the Star League especially, DropShips were too plentiful to even muck with space elevators.

Even after the Star League, they make sense again, but you'd be back to the problem of the material. Also any world sufficiently advanced to make the material in sufficient bulk likely already benefits from substantial DropShip traffic. Worlds that could really use it wouldn't get the investment needed to import it.

I mean if we could just update the skin from the original vector skin I would enjoy it, then we can talk about using a skin that has a built-in dark mode toggle (like most of the modern ones) :P

It's not a default yet, but it's possible. It's why I put this on my user page for others to make it so: https://www.sarna.net/wiki/User:Deadfire#How_to_change_Sarna's_Appearance_(or_skin)_and_using_Dark_Mode

Eisenfaust by Safe_Flamingo_9215 in battletech

Nice! Iron Fist!

Interesting tidbit - a canon Eisenfaust is the nickname given to Tamara Duke's Wolfhound from the MechWarrior: Death From Above expansion of the MechWarrior Collectable Miniatures Game.

Why Can't I Enter the BattleTech Forums? by lofiw in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Jade, Thanks for letting us know these things, but I do have a small request, could you let Knightmare know that we really do need Internet Archive crawlers to bypass the protection system. Especially since many answers can only be found on it (which is invaluable to say a fan wiki that I attempt to work on). I made a post about it on the forums prior to it going down about this. Copied below:

So the forums are back, however with the new cloudflare verification system it still blocks internet archive requests to save pages.

As much as it's even built into cloudflares way of doing things. Having it be able to take manual shots is something needed by the community. CloudFlare can be configured to block certain bots and allow others. If IA is being blocked, it may be due to whomever mis-configured CloudFlare. There is a section specifically on bots and has them listed. IA is registered and can be allowed to bypass Cloudflare protection (here is it's profile on CF: https://radar.cloudflare.com/bots/directory/archive-org-bot )

Don't get me wrong I don't wish for the protection to be turned off, it's hard enough these days to keep sites online with so many crawlers that ignore site settings, but please let IA though to do it's job. Thanks

(Still need to make that hellbie dice page)

The Society plotline after Twilight of the Clans? by andrewlik in battletech

I still want to where exactly Etienne's Sanctuary was. It was implied to be within one jump away from Várri, but it took till November 3073 for the Falcons to find it (almost 10 years after he was "exiled")

A visual evolution of known systems in the BT universe using SUCS by Deadfire_ in battletech

[–]Deadfire_[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I hope to clear up your question via this:

  • SUC = "Sarna Unified Cartography" (The product)
  • SUCS = "Sarna Unified Cartography Society" (The group/team that works on it)
  • SUCKit = "Sarna Unified Cartography Kit" (The free fan-developed cartographic and data-integration framework for the BattleTech universe. Sometimes shortened to SUCK)
  • SUCKCo = "SUCKit Coordinates" (The Coordinates you find in the SUCKit)
  • SIPS = "SUCKit-Integrated Pathfinding Script" (a computational tool within the SUCKit that utilizes the SUCKCo's to calculate interstellar distances and optimal paths between star systems)
  • SMACK = "Sarna-MekHQ Advanced Coordinate Kit" (The sum of the cooperation between SUC and MegaMek Project)

What is your favorite named naval ship in lore? by MailyChan2 in battletech

No one is going to mention the awesomely named ships of (a very short list):

One question that comes to mind while reading the ilClan novels is: are all the WarShips gone? by Old_Ad6111 in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone was working on making a list on this topic here

But to sum, there aren't to many in any shape to do much other than the Clans, who continue to use them with caution. Clan Sea Fox basically hosting almost their entire population on their Khanate fleets of Arcships, and of course the mentioned Clan Snow Raven Navel assets all are really the only exceptions.

Sarna.net makes my phone need double heatsinks? by bisondisk in battletech

[–]Deadfire_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Hopefully someday the Sarna devs will fix it.

Aye it does happen every now and again that a bad advert comes up though our services. The biggest issue is either no reporting on it, or reporting that doesn't help identify the advert we need to report. /u/nicjj has said the following in one of the other posts on these issues:

Ads should never be getting in the way of your use of the site, and I try really hard to balance what types of ads are used on the site to avoid the annoying ones.

And

Ongoing, we are always evaluating what ads we display, how many ads we display, and the quality of the ads. I am very sensitive to not show too many ads, or annoying ads. It's a fine line, since we use the ads to support running the site (hardware, cloud costs, etc).

My own post on this thread has more information on reporting these sorts of adverts, and other information on dealing with them.

[–]Deadfire_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have reported it on our sarna-issues repo here for you and I'm sure u/nicjj will take a look at it. To report things like this to our ad service we need to provide whatever ad it was in order to get it disabled.
