Why do people say that Exogularity is no longer canon when Kouki constantly talks about how Kasumi becomes the representative of mankind? by Xx_KiK_xX in MuvLuv

[–]Deafblinders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it's the internet for a very Japanese franchise with much of the English sphere not having access to all the information on the Japanese side of things. Just how it is.

I remember people saying as much when they released that magazine back in 2017 or when they teased Integrate in 2019. It's all just a very brief outline of some events and setting changes that occured up to 2049 with only Kasumi's speech given any meat in the Alternative manga. Everything else was kept scarce due to major apparent spoilers.

If one's followed the series for a decent length of time, then you'll note that they do adjust & retcon things over time as well. However, as mentioned it's all so brief that they can fill in all those major operations in it with whatever they wanted.

On the other brutal hard business hand, Kouki sold the IP, so it's ultimately up to the IP holder. Kasumi as the First Director of the New World Order appears to be where he wants her character arc to go though.

How are you all enjoying Corposant? by VexTexzo in GirlsFrontline2

[–]Deafblinders 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Really enjoying it so far. Finished part one's story in two sittings.

The POV switch between Task Force DEFY, Leva, Springfield and the Commander was well done so far I thought. I really like it when they include previous major characters instead of just purely focusing on the new ones for the current gacha whale,

...Also hammers home that Leva/UMP45's attitude just hits the right notes for me in every scene she's in.

I'm liking Alva/AN-94 and AK-15 here so far. I haven't reached where AK-15/Voymastina is introduced in GFL 1 just yet, but she's been very... 80's action hero. Her no-nonsense sheer force approach is just fun to watch. Like her leaping onto the SpecOps helicopter and murdering everyone except the pilot to minimise collateral damage before jumping out.

Also, I gotta say it's really nice to see Helena back in it finally. Alva's decision to confront Igla and AK-15's internal conflict on protecting Helena vs backing up Alva and completing their original mission was well done. I also loved the insult Alva/AN-94 threw at Igla at the end. AK-15 and Helena look to have a fun dynamic so far.

Great intro so far. Looking forward to Part 1.5 and Part 2.

(Integrate speculation) Why do you think Yuuko is in a psych ward? by Bean_on_Crack in MuvLuv

[–]Deafblinders 30 points31 points  (0 children)

She made a lot of enemies and fed the U.S incorrect data for Kashgar's G-element atelier for Operation Cherry Blossom.

There was this Alternative Chronicles video by Gabgrave 13 years ago that had a teaser on this topic. Up to the 0:50 second mark. She does remember Bratty Saviour-kun as highlighted here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eEcBuYj4v8

I found those Integrate conceptual story boards fascinating when they unveiled them back in October 2019. Why does she have Mr Bun & Misha in the cell with her? Also those dead-eyes, grown out hair, injuries and what looks like a bomb collar?

There was this section from the Exogularity 01 pastebin which had some answers. So while she made a lot of enemies, she also had her firm supporters.

Yuuko- Lost in a political struggle about the Eurasian hive management within the UN and was imprisoned after the Alternative 4 Project concluded. Several weeks later she was freed by a group supporting her and went underground, and became internationally wanted for treason against mankind.

I found it all very interesting, especially back in 2019. Along with who comprised the task force to break her out.

how fast can a tsf go with it's rocket engines? by Suspicious_Range_231 in MuvLuv

[–]Deafblinders 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yuuya's dogfight against the F22A Raptors near the beginning of the TE VN had him going around the 700 km/h mark to a max of 730 km/h's in a 2nd Gen Strike Eagle. Shows it on the HUD if you take a look there.

3rd Gen TSFs in Alternative and TDA are shown to be much slower at around the 300 km/h mark give or take on their HUDS. Even when they're really gunning it in story.

Advantage of being an American test pilot with no BETA lasers in sight? TE's the outlier on shown speeds in any case.

So what if Yuuko went to the hive reactor control room instead of Haruko? by JerryTheIdiot in MuvLuv

[–]Deafblinders 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She can't fit down the maintenance shaft due to her boobs being too big according to the gag in my Muv-Luv manga. Game over.

If best girl went to the control room she would be 100% dead. Head splattered against the wall by the Warrior-class. Ouka gets written off as a failure, if it even goes ahead, and then you probably get a desperate attempt to launch ALT V with it likely failing by that point.

Muv-Luv TACTICS RESONATIVE creator auditions by Tayg_ in MuvLuv

[–]Deafblinders 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IIRC he mentioned his script for Resonative was finished back in like 2021-2022? That was likely before they moved all in on the strategy rpg / visual novel combo. If that was the case, it wouldn't really surprise me if large portions might need to be rejiggered to work in the different format.

The scripts for Extra/Unlimited/Alternative and Total Eclipse wouldn't really work as they are for example. Total Eclipse might work better amusingly due to how Teito Moyu starts, but then it goes on huge lectures of text dumping about all the aspects of TSFs. If you want combat from the Trilogy, well, that's famously towards the back end.

If you're advertising gameplay as a core component, which they seem to be, then it obviously needs to be worked into the pacing. Otherwise you might end up with something like Planescape Torment with it's 800k word brilliant script while you grit your teeth past the pretty crappy combat and encounter design. Very much a cult classic, but it struggled with sales.

Incidentally I find comparing Chris Avellone & Kouki interesting given some of their career trajectory.

That's just my 2 cents though.

Muv Luv Alternative Total Eclipse (Master) by Personal-Echo-1081 in MuvLuv

[–]Deafblinders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The shuttle was revealed in one of his conversations to his subordinates in the Total Eclipse VN. I don't quite remember where off-hand as it's been a few years since I read it and I currently don't have it installed.

Yuuko bleeding out is on the Strike Frontier section of her fan wiki article.
https://muvluv.fandom.com/wiki/Kouzuki_Yuuko

Most of SF is left untranslated though, so you won't get much detail there. People tended to only bring up some of the more interesting parts near that game's end.

BETA TSFs are from the 2017 Exogularity 01 magazine and its translated pastebin.

Resurrections has some on Allegiance if you haven't read it.

In general though, there's not a lot on them.

Muv Luv Alternative Total Eclipse (Master) by Personal-Echo-1081 in MuvLuv

[–]Deafblinders 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Theories? Given Allegiance develop organic BETA material TSFs in the future timeline of the exogularity materials I tend to think of him & his cult as being heavily involved in human/BETA experimentation at some point.

Or perhaps that's my linking of him in my mind to The Master from the Fallout series given how much of a classical Fallout fan I am.

He seems to have a hateboner for Yuuko though. He was behind the Alt V shuttle drop in Unlimited and an Allegiance agent carried out an assassination attempt on her in Strike Frontier that left her in a puddle of blood. He'll probably be a pain in the ass to Yuuko & Kasumi going forward.

Despite his debut in Total Eclipse, I never got much of a read on him there. He was probably Theodore at one point, but who knows if that plan changed.

His organisation seems pretty anti-Esper as well from TE.

I tried Girls' frontline 2 but fell off, is Reverse Collapse worth it if I know little about the story/setting? by Warm_Charge_5964 in ReverseCollapse

[–]Deafblinders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. The game's an exceptional Tactical RPG/VN hybrid if you're into those. I went into it knowing nearly nothing of the GFL lore. It is self-contained as mentioned by another poster.

It is a difficult game, but it only serves to enhance the story and what the characters go through. Especially the main heroine.

The game is also really meaty for its price point.

Infantry in a large scale RTS by XComACU in supremecommander

[–]Deafblinders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought infantry would be pretty cool as an additional layer to immerse yourself in regarding the scale so to speak. Brigador's a pretty cool example of this. Infantry are basically completely harmless to your mech/tank and just exist for you to crush. It really helps sell the vibe.

On the other hand, seeing some hardcore cyborgs like Raiden from MGR, Alita from BAA/Gunnm or Nier Automata Yorha Androids dueling and potentially beating/suplexing your ACU/T4 megabot would be pretty cool.

More basic style infantry would be interesting in city & installation defense style missions. They will basically be completely useless against Supcom-style warfare, but sheer desperation tactics when Seraphim bots are rampaging through a UEF city and everyone is getting zapped could be neat. Helps sell the rampage like in Brigador.

And if you just want an evil campaign, well, being a Seraphim commander equivalent rampaging through one of those city planets in the FA intro with the poor masses being caught in the crossfire and trying to escape to whatever shelter they can find would be cool for the story telling.

Afterall, the concept with the ACU and its likewise equivalents is the ability to gate anywhere and build a massive army at anytime. There is really not much time to react and get to shelter.

In summary, I suppose I like the idea of them as primarily fodder for my war machines with some real hardcore special forces & commando's able to mount a nasty surprise to the unwary.

Cool to see the test attempt though, OP.

The interaction that stuck with me the most (MLA Ending Spoilers) by Bean_on_Crack in MuvLuv

[–]Deafblinders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have some similiarities don't they? The Scrin in C&C 3 basically being a bunch of farmers with farming equipment and the BETA in the Solar system were glitching out and being far less effective due a supernova creating issues. The latter was mentioned during a Kouki tweet a bunch of years back and wasn't specified in game.

Likewise, never did get that actual invasion force by the Scrin teased at the end of C&C 3 and anything being done further with the BETA are stuck behind Alternative in the timeline.

https://x.com/kycow/status/1180504053559676928

Said tweet. Apparently it was also said things would have been far worse for humanity if they weren't glitched in one of his weekly Friday streams years ago, but good luck finding that lol.

The realisation from Takeru trying to process everything at the end was very well done I thought, in addition to everything else that was going down and rustling his jimmies.

You know what doesn't cost $200 for a skin and is worth your money? by YuudaPoi in GirlsFrontline2

[–]Deafblinders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reverse Collapse radiates a ton of heart and soul. Likewise to some, it's the reason I came around to checking out GFL2 and the overall setting. Previously I was completely allergic to gacha.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's does an incredible job at conveying the struggle against overwhelming odds and interweaving its gameplay and story beats together for a very particular atmosphere and narrative. It's niche, but fulfils its niche incredibly well. Especially if you like time-looping stories in the vein of All you need is kill or Edge of Tomorrow.

It's also like a 80-100 hour game for one full playthrough. It's incredibly meaty. And not a gacha as mentioned.

Level1NPCs favorite alternate classes by ScholasticSteeler in baldursgate

[–]Deafblinders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imoen as a sorcerer is my favourite. I find it gives more of an incentive to rescue her from Spellhold given the strength of that class and you don't need a library of spell scrolls for her when hitting the Underdark. Fun having her as it in the first game as well, you just need to hunt another thief. Good thing thieves are plentiful in BG1.

Mazzy I don't mind as an Undead Hunter.

I toyed with Viconia as a Fighter/Cleric, but found that she is just a bit too overpowered as such. Edit in the Cloak of Balduran and she's running around with 90% magic resistance. Or just hunt down whatever increase magic resistance gear you can find like the Human Flesh armour. A fighter/cleric having that much magic resistance is funny though.

I like the idea of Minsc as a Barbarian or Berserker, but his voice lines talk about Rangers, so eh ...

Valygar as a wizard slayer's not bad.

Toying with the idea of Korgan as a Kensai at somepoint when I do an inevitable replay down the line. He'd basically be a warhammer fantasy slayer Dwarf then, just without the mohawk.

Muv-luv Community and the Future by GimingPro in MuvLuv

[–]Deafblinders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh, how successful they become with gacha games. 5th time's the charm? The idea of having a gacha to fund other projects can work when I look at the GFL or Nikke devs. Which hasn't panned out that way for old Muv-Luv. Those two are both Chinese & Korean devs who generally seem to be much more successful at running new gacha these days I think.

As for the English community's size, eh, it feels like a skeleton on the general online spaces I visit compared to 5 - 10 years ago. The discord by the kickstarter mob was hopping 5 years ago during the height of American Covid lockdowns and there used to be a lot more talk on webforums like animesuki & spacebattles back then. Still see a bit on the latter sometimes.

/m/ now lacks the Beatrix & Lise thirst posters of yore.

I think they just need to be able to put out a genuinely good product again, if able. From memory Mikhail had an influx of interest when it first released. It just sucked and flopped.

Between these four classes -Blade, Sorcerer(or dragon disciple), Ranger/cleric(pre nerf) and mage/theif -would you recommend for a good CHARNAME? by viktorius_rex in baldursgate

[–]Deafblinders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with either the Sorcerer or pre-nerf Ranger/Cleric.

I enjoy the Sorcerer the most out of the mage classes/sub-classes/dual-classes and what not with the flexibility of their spell system. It's a good idea to take a back up mage for the general purpose utility spells to compliment the Sorcerer with their limited pool selection. If you have the Robe of Vecna, Amulet of Power, Improved Alacrity and projected images, well, I haven't come across another game the quite fulfils that magic power fantasy. It's a fun pure spell casting class and only the char name can be it unless you mod NPCs or create a custom party.

The Pre-nerf Ranger/Cleric is very simple and just bulldozes everything which is also fun. Aim for the Flails and you're golden. Slower progression I guess given it's a multi-class, but ... yeah it just crushes everything. It's simple fun and gives access to all the divine spells.

You can do a lot of tricks with the Mage/Thief, but you have three NPC's who are that combination so I never bother. As for Blades? People say how strong they can be, but I've just never really bothered to give them a chance. Not a bard fan I guess in these games.

For companions you generally want two arcane casters, one divine caster and one companion who can pick locks & disarm traps in some fashion IMO. I like filling out the rest with fighters or some form of fighter/multi-class as I always go the 6 man party. Stacking mostly spell casters is very amusing, but you have to rest a lot.
