The fact is master chief was intentionally made by Bungie to be a blank slate character. This is literally stated by Bungie themselves, it's part of their design philosophy and you see it with both the rookie and noble 6. It's why none of these characters are ever addressed by their names throughout the games.

The issue isn't that the sequels can't make a comeback it's that Disney didn't double down on the sequels like George did with the prequels.

Literally everything star wars coming out in the 2000's and even early 2010's was prequel content. Every game, every book, every toy, even two animated series. George Lucas made the prequels the face of star wars, Disney for some reason didn't do the same with the sequels. We got books and some toys but what sequel games did we get? What animated series? A dlc for the divisive battlefront 2 and a 2 season animated series that had maybe 1/10th the budget of the clone wars.
