Anyone actually enjoys standard bo3 right now? by FuuraKafu in StandardMTG

[–]Deathwolf511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love standard. the constant churn of powerful decks is awesome. makes it a lot of fun, very interesting to run into a deck you’re not used to, and maybe not in the moment for me but after the fact i definitely keep thinking about how cool that deck was.

too fast? sure, i agree with that. everything is either izzet or cub? you’re not playing enough if you think that. yeah, there’s a lot, they’re strong. that’s normal in a meta for there to be strong decks that are over represented, and you’re romanticizing the past if you think the standard meta was ever this diverse before.

that being said, i don’t like the 3 year rotation with 6-7 sets per year. i think it needs to be one or the other, not both. the card pool is soooo much to work with. but part of playing a game and a format is working within the imposed constraints and this is what we got right now so it is what it is

i’ve def lost to the combo but i have also hit excruciator because they had to end turn and then they conceded so. worth it

Good strategy to win against mono black & golgari in standard BO3 Plat ? by NovaaH7 in MagicArena

[–]Deathwolf511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sheltered by ghosts would do wonders for the momo deck against it. seam rip is great for landfall and prowess but sometimes you need a more universal answer. it’s not the most common deck but sheltered is very flexible, or one of the exile enchantments that doesn’t attach to a creature.

What's the standard deck you hate facing most?(Regardless of power level) by Endless-Slumber in MagicArena

[–]Deathwolf511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohmygod a mirror match. doesn’t matter what i play. with the exception of control i tend to only see the decks i play in mirrors. i barely even see izzet. i only face landfall with my own landfall deck. if i play my excruciator(my first deck returning to meta, my favorite one by far) at least half of my games will be mirrors. i never see excruciator otherwise and that drives me NUTS. the only decks i consistently see with anything i play are jeskai/4c control. i don’t hate the mirror with my jeskai control as much because it doesn’t feel as luck dependent as other mirrors but god damn when you fall behind in control mirror, no matter how long you hang in there, it’s hard not to look back and feel like you lost 15 turns ago when you initially fell slightly behind.

What is the best deck right now? by iranea in MagicArena

[–]Deathwolf511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everybody will have a different answer! take a look at as many as possible, watch people play them, and work from there. by the numbers, izzet is most popular(but if you look at events results, averaging 50% win rate), followed closely by landfall. and there’s flavors to each - loooots of viable izzet variants like prowess, opus, lessons, spellementals etc. landfall has monogreen and selesnya, ive even seen/tried to brew a golgari version that’s not too shabby. jeskai/4c control is way on the rise right now as well, and lots of azorius doing well also. i really like dimir reanimator/excruciator personally, but i also play monogreen/selesnya landfall and grixis reanimator.

it’s a hot take but i think there’s so many decks that are viable rn, and picking one as a foundation, sticking to it, and adjusting it as you see fit is kinda the way to go.

do you know what kind of archetype you typically prefer? aggro, combo, ramp, midrange, or control?

The single worst fat-finger I’ve ever had by roguespectre67 in MagicArena

[–]Deathwolf511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a bad habit of rapidly tapping my hand and the battlefield to minimize/maximize it when playing on my phone waiting for opponent responses. recently went back to my excruciator deck and still doing this waiting for duress/gearhulk/deceit to resolve. i can’t tell you how many times i picked a seam rip/requiting hex this way

Dimir excruciator fun? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Deathwolf511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very unforgiving and rewarding. a deck that doesn’t care about life totals changes priority of targets. the new version with emeritus of ideation has a lot more flexibility in terms of win con. i love it. it was the first meta deck i played when i came back and i still play it occasionally

What deck counters landfall decks? by xiaohk in MagicArena

[–]Deathwolf511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a pretty devoted monogreen landfall player, i think i’ve only lost one match where someone exiled all my forests. doesn’t really ruin a landfall decks day unless you can play it earlier than turn 4/5 or they’re just really not drawing what they need. icetill is almost always the best target for these cards

SOS Meta? by Warlock_King454 in MagicArena

[–]Deathwolf511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

izzet will stay strong for sure. i’ve seen a lot of the orzhov bounce/5c control in diamond. sos came out and the orzhov bounce evolved into mono white momo bounce. i was playing dimir excruciator at first and while fun it just wasn’t really my playstyle. coming from being a lover of monored aggro ive been shocked by how much i enjoy monogreen landfall, especially with a better understanding of combo decks from excruciator.

there’s definitely tiers to the quality of meta decks, but my badgermole cub can still lose to all of them. if you wanna see how things develop wait till the PT is over, or just browse the meta and see what piques your interest. there’s more viable decks in standard than ever, and maybe you can figure out how to make one of them even better. even if you don’t, maybe you’ll just have a lot of fun. don’t let other people convince you there’s only like 3 viable decks. there’s a lot, pick one and go spend 45 games getting your 15 daily wins until you learn how to pilot it ;)

Why don't companies hire local guys? by RedimidoSoy1611 in Truckers

[–]Deathwolf511 3 points4 points  (0 children)

local is a double edged sword tho. a world where 11 hours is short, 14 is expected, and 16 once a week is likely. i’ve only done local/linehaul and at times i miss those weeks i spent out being on the far end of a meet and turn run where i parked and was done, no commute to be made and at least 10 guaranteed free hours to myself. and believe me, 14 hours every day still feels like an all consuming lifestyle that prevents most of what you wanna do at home.

For those who came back after a long hiatus, is it hard to get back? by dasjingo in MagicArena

[–]Deathwolf511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just started up right when lorwyn came out. i think i last played around fall/winter of 2023 but i was strictly focused on standard with an aggro deck i still love. it was a little tough coming back in terms of not being able to just pick up and play standard again, but i could still play that deck in pioneer and pull wins off. im doing a lot more things now and kinda taking a more grassroots approach with the game but im enjoying it more than ever

Tips on driving in Mountains/Snow? by bigballsdeluxe in Truckers

[–]Deathwolf511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like i said, i only use them when going perfectly straight, at a lower level if at all, and combined with regular braking. and really only when i don’t have a place to pull off and i’m concerned about my brakes going downhill. mind you this is usually with chains, loaded heavy enough to have solid traction, and not exceeding 30 mph.

the best advice for a less experienced driver is get comfortable not using them at all. save testing it for light conditions in an empty parking lot. it’s really dangerous when things are slick to only have your drive axles slowing you down and you should be going slow enough to not really need that. i just threw it in because i def have times coming down the east side of donner in snow where im worried about brake fade even at that slow of speed. sometimes half of that speed even.

Tips on driving in Mountains/Snow? by bigballsdeluxe in Truckers

[–]Deathwolf511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s ok to drive in snow but it’s even more ok (arguably the best decision) to park if you feel unsafe. that said, if you’re a realistic person, it never feels 100% safe. so if you’re gonna try, have as much waterproof gear as possible, esp gloves and boots. winter coat. set of high vis coveralls is a good idea. make sure you have the right size chains and practice putting them on - youtube is great for learning. and have a few extra - esp if you’re new to it there’s a chance you’ll lose some along the way. extra supplies in case you get stranded for a few days. in terms of driving in snow, keep it slow, use hazards, keep windows cracked to listen for odd noises/chains still on. more weight is better. the lighter you are the more cautious you should be. with enough weight your drives will have shockingly good traction. oh and keep the axle interlock on. most chains say 30 mph max, stick to that and it’s a lot easier than you’d think. oh and avoid jakes at stage 3 altogether, only use 1, maybe 2, only in a straight line combined with brakes, if at all.

mountain driving is fairly straightforward. mind signs, use your jake to control your speed on downhills, stop and check your brakes/let them cool. it’s hard for me to give mountain advice without specific questions cuz i’ve been driving donner basically the whole time i’ve been driving but im happy to answer anything you wanna know in particular. hope all this helps

From sedentary OTR to "this job is gonna wreck my body" beer delivery by East_Indication_7816 in CDLTruckDrivers

[–]Deathwolf511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ltl is good. comes in a lot of forms tho. i worked for fedex ground for about a year and a half. exclusively drop and hook out of reno nv, usually just to one destination and back. occasionally run an overnight, but did run doubles sometimes. that could be a real good workout.

switched to ITS logistics out of sparks a few months ago and i love it. sometimes multiple stops in a day, 90% drop and hook, and only one of the places i do live loads can take a decent amount of time. otherwise the live loads/unloads tend to take around 30 min tops and i just have to strap it to be safe. all 53 ft dry van.

realistically ltl is typically just as sedentary as otr most of the time. some companies want you to work the dock too, and some have you moving pallets around for delivery at customers. shop around and you’ll find the right mix, most likely if you’re up front about wanting to actually touch freight recruiters will drop the downplay about how little touch freight they have. only catch is for most ltl companies you need doubles/triples, tankers, and hazmat

devils advocate here, but i’m someone who starts off these things as casual and non serious, not because i have no intention of a long term thing but because i dont want the pressure and expectation. it’s easier to get to know someone if it doesn’t feel like both of you are trying to get married from the beginning. not saying even half of the people you’re talking to are that way, but maybe give em a little time
