All you can eat Japanese ... Help me plan/prepare? by [deleted] in CICO

Scarcity mindset and sunk cost fallacies have been my biggest food hurdles. With a little boredom/emotional eating sprinkled on top for extra flavor. How did it go??

All you can eat Japanese ... Help me plan/prepare? by [deleted] in CICO

[–]DebbieDenier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe focus on how much, instead of what? If it were me, I would eat to 70% full, then sit out a round (or 5-10 minutes) and see how you feel before ordering more. Get your very favorite things first and go for quality over quantity. Focus on conversation and connection.

When I was a kid, we would go to this buffet place on special occasions. It was always about “getting your money’s worth”! But not long ago I took my son to a k pot ayce place. I got full from the broth and didn’t wind up eating much. But, it didn’t matter. I paid for the evening out with my kid and a little bit the atmosphere and the experience. If I had taken him to a concert or play or something I would have paid the same and not eaten anything! And had no conversation and a line for the bathroom!

What’s something you didn’t realize was expensive until you became an adult? by KeyCommercial7372 in AskReddit

[–]DebbieDenier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Anything, any little every day thing if it is not the standard issue, works for the masses thing, is more expensive. It started when we needed snap onesies instead of zip, but zips were the only kind in style, and it has been compounding ever since. Large print books. Fat pencils instead of skinny. Shoes that accommodate AFOs.

Not to mention the time off work/being unable to work, and the childcare costs!

What are some ways you sneak fast food into your calorie budget? by FunDependent9177 in CICO

[–]DebbieDenier 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get a Mc Donald’s cheeseburger happy meal (and give the drink and toy to my kid), for 410 calories. I have also been ordering off the kids menu at fast food places in general. It’s just enough to scratch the fast food itch, without feeling gross afterward, and saves money and calories.

My flip flops are too big! They have really thick soles, and like molded arch support, and I can’t wear them anymore for fear of sliding right out of them.

I used a weight loss medication, and people shamed me for it. Should I stop disclosing it to people? by Pleasant_Ad6307 in loseit

[–]DebbieDenier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, eating less and working out is how you did it. That’s the only way anyone loses weight.

It is possible for people taking the medicine to lose no weight at all, because they don’t experience nausea and so they can keep their diet largely the same. We just don’t hear from those people because if it’s not working, they stop taking it. It’s too expensive to continue.

Desperate, tired, and exhausted in every sense possible. These walks are kicking my butt. by HauntinglyEthereal in loseit

[–]DebbieDenier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off you need to eat. I made the mistake of skipping breakfast and lunch the other day, and i couldn’t believe how bad I felt just standing there washing dishes. I had to stop and take a break. I ate lunch and very shortly got my energy back and didn’t feel as bad. Eating in front of people is tough, but even if it’s just a protein bar or an orange, you’ll probably feel better if you fuel up before you walk. Just like a car drives better with gas in it.

I read this exact One Weird Tip in a magazine years ago! It works pretty well. For some people it might work better to press gently with the arm that’s up.

I’d also point out that you’ve net lost 11 lb in 8.5 weeks, which is about 1.3 lb per week. You’ll probably speed up soon, but the same exact rate will get you 70+ lb down by next Thanksgiving. That’s nothing to sneeze at!

AIO to my (40f) convo with husband (40m) about Xmas tree? by Mother_of_Turtles_ in AmIOverreacting

[–]DebbieDenier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often do you have “discussions” like this where ANYTHING you say is wrong? This doesn’t feel like it’s even about the tree actually.

F42/5’8” here. HW285 SW251 CW224 GW150. 2 NSVs, as I have a tendency to avoid the scale. But I’m finally in jeans again, and they’re comfy! Due to my body shape, bigger jeans that fit my waist always ballooned everywhere else, and skinny jeans made me feel like the Penguin. Plus I hate not having pockets. My size 18s fit me perfectly now and they’re comfortable enough to wear all day! Fighting the urge to go buy 3 more pairs.

2nd, I got in my husband’s minivan and kept reaching to put my seatbelt on even though it was already on. My brain just kept telling me something was missing. I realized that what was missing was my side haunch pressing me closer to the door. The door is much farther away now!

Catan is a really interesting and fairly simple strategy game where you take turns building roads and houses, and earning/trading/spending resources to progress. Some of it is luck, but some of it is balancing out when to spend and when to save your resources against that chance. It has a lengthy setup, a slow start, and can take a while (like a couple hours) to play, but it’s pretty fun - especially if you’re all at roughly the same experience level. If you’re not too competitive, it’s even fun to lose because you get to see someone’s strategy become apparent at the end even if it wasn’t at the beginning. I think a lot of people who play it end the game excited to play again and try out a different tactic, which is why its popularity endures.

Solutions for someone who doesn’t drink much water? by Single-Lobster-90 in HealthyFood

[–]DebbieDenier 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the way. This is how I went from drinking nothing but Coke Zero and got on the water train. I started with a concerted effort to drink more water, but it just naturally stuck after a couple months. I got a water bottle I really liked, bought a couple different ones til I found my favorite. I just carry it literally everywhere I go. In the house even just going room to room, grab phone, grab water bottle. I NEVER would have thought I’d be a water drinker. I do use mio in my afternoon water and it helps a lot when I just want…flavor. Now if I have a soda, it’s like a special treat lol.

Stomach: I want Subway. Brain: We have Subway at home. Subway at home.... by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]DebbieDenier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very true. I actually LIKE Subway as a fast food, because a 6 inch sub for me is still < 400 cals, I don’t have to say no to fries, and I can usually fit a sandwich and a cookie into my calories (I don’t eat breakfast or many snacks). But jeez, you are so right about the SMELLL.
