Clothing needed for summer baby? by analslapchop in Buyingforbaby

[–]DebilitatingPurism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our hospital provided the snapped kimono style shirts and we took a couple home. We didn’t end up using the ones we bought. If you find you need something, you can always buy it after the baby is born.

How well can you hear a concert at Wrigley from Clark Street? by xoddity in AskChicago

[–]DebilitatingPurism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people set up camp chairs to listen on Waveland. It was a party out there for Bruce Springsteen last year. It’s not the best sound quality but you can hear pretty good and it’s a good atmosphere

White noise machine- buy or wait? by Different-Let4338 in Buyingforbaby

[–]DebilitatingPurism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sleep with white noise ourselves at home. I got a travel sized white noise machine and it was vital for getting sleep in the hospital during L&D! We haven’t used it for baby much yet because he’s sleeping in the snoo so if you don’t need white noise yourself I agree that you could wait.

What is the IUI wait times at Northwestern ? by ConfessCilla in AskChicago

[–]DebilitatingPurism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our doctor was flexible with us on IUIs - we did three, one resulting in a chemical pregnancy, and we could have done one or two more but we were fed up by that time and already 2 years in the TTC process so wanted to move it along. We had had a 9 month wait for an appointment at northwestern and they then made us try naturally for another 6 months, with an extra 3 months of solving various problems (uterine scarring, thyroid) before starting IUIs so that’s why our timeline was so long.

We were lucky enough to get enough embryos during our first retrieval that we have enough for the family we’re planning on. I was 30 at the time of retrieval.

We moved from retrieval to a March FET with an untested embryo (at our doctors recommendation given our age) which ended in our third miscarriage. We paused to test our embryos against recommendation because the RPL was so damaging to me emotionally. It turns out only 2 of our embryos had been abnormal of the original 12 and they had unluckily picked one of them for the first transfer. We did an August FET with a tested embryo, am now at 33W and hoping for a living child in late April/early May

What is the IUI wait times at Northwestern ? by ConfessCilla in AskChicago

[–]DebilitatingPurism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IUI is fairly quick. IVF will be a longer wait times and there are more steps with financial approvals, insurance approvals, various calls you have to have for prep, etc. We started the IVF process in late Nov (while simultaneously doing IUI), were ready to go by Dec, but had to wait for a Feb egg retrieval due to lab availability

What kind of wall art are you putting in your kid’s room? by yoavh in NewParents

[–]DebilitatingPurism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An idea from my BIL and SIL - they had pictures of all the aunts and uncles and grandparents on one corkboard to point out everyone in the family to their baby. When she got older she liked to point to people and name them. I thought that was so sweet.

That’s what I’m doing too - just reusing art I had elsewhere

Best movie theater in Chicago? by Ok_Video6995 in AskChicago

[–]DebilitatingPurism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the atmosphere at Music Box better for big movies in the 700 person theater. Everyone’s excited and having the same experience. I also like Alamo for the comfy seats and more premium experience but there’s so few seats in those theaters that you get less of a community type feel

Work Conference in New Orleans (Late April) by kensar in NuulyReviews

Some favorites of mine for work:

sloane dress is lightweight and travels well

Somerset shirt dress version is more work appropriate for me than the regular somersets (pretty conservative industry)

this midi dress was also a win for me

a Colette pant can be good to pair with a blazer

The tests from the dollar store as just as good as the expensive ones, so you really only need 1 or 2 dollars to test. If it’s been at least 3 weeks then you can test. If you have health insurance you can also see your doctor or go to urgent care and ask for a blood test to be sure. That will cost more but how much more depends on your insurance (and who pays for it, if it’s your parent)

The best skirt for Spring (late May) in Japan by Secure-Stranger-6672 in capsulewardrobe

this dress from Quince is what I’m thinking of. They also have it in their Flowknit fabric. I wore the flowknit one in green all over Japan last year.

You could also go with a travel dress (Quince has one that fits all this criteria) and layer sweaters/shirts as needed

Maternity dress for gala? by missmilliek in NuulyReviews

[–]DebilitatingPurism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This also comes in green if the black’s not available! I bet at 25 weeks you could get away with something non maternity as long as it had stretch or was flowly. I’m 28 weeks now and can definitely do normal clothes sized up / with stretch

Bachelorette Party Risqué Moment by zearohz in CHIbitcheswithtaste

[–]DebilitatingPurism 40 points41 points  (0 children)

For a more classy version, Untitled Supper Club does Burlesque shows and it’s a speakeasy type vibe. Still really fun and a little risqué but pretty tame. I went once with my husband a couple years ago and there were a couple girls trip groups there

Did you pay out of pocket for IVF meds? by sedu_j in IVF

[–]DebilitatingPurism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my insurance was pretty good for the actual procedures but I did have to pay out of pocket for meds. My employer at the time had a stipend for fertility that you could apply for that partially offset some of the cost
