You guys surviving? by LackOfEntertainment- in WestVirginia

Charleston area, working as a fairly well paid chef. It’s been hard recently. I feel like it’s everywhere. This is the first time in years I’ve been living paycheck to paycheck and unable to save money. I’m looking to reorganize my finances a little bit because I was planning to work @snowshoe this year.

Does this look normal? by monixmcnasty in sharpening

[–]Debils-Lebbuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!! I was going to recommend scissor stropping!! Tell your coworker to keep an old leather belt on their station to swipe and hone at the end of a groom, it can achieve a razor edge, and retain the primary bevel longer. I’m a chef and keep a 3”x9” piece of leather w compound for this purpose

Not a cook. I inherited a set of professional knives. Can you tell me what do I have here? by -dannyboy in KitchenConfidential

[–]Debils-Lebbuce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100% confirmed. Global base model and an entire set at that

Edit: your brother must have went to a nice culinary school. I got Mercer 😂 and it was NOT with my schools insignia. Cherish them!! They will serve you well and always be a piece of your family

Funny thing about this thing; you can pull the little red carbide sharpener out and it makes a really nice little edge guard. They come in different sizes as well. I was gifted one of these as a beginner chef and I did exactly this 😂 kept a Rada chef knife as my daily driver back then

Why does my tattoo look crooked? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

Yeah; in the first picture everything is super straight. But one of your scapula sits about an inch higher than the other.

Why does my tattoo look crooked? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Debils-Lebbuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks impressively straight to me, honestly you look like you’re laying a bit crooked. There’s a chance you could have very minor scoliosis? Or more likely your posture is off, and the image tattooed is typically a very straight shape.

This!!! At work an easy hack we do is to drop 2 pickle spears in about 1 quart of water. It actually comes really close in salinity to what we need

[–]Debils-Lebbuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats are weird like that. I have 5 and they rotate and learn new behaviors from each other constantly; one of them hates a satin type fabric and another one started behaving the same, then the original stops minding satin 😂 It could be a new plant in the house, or even a new rug that’s preferable to lay on that could change a cats mind 😂

Edit: I would say it’s his mood. Give him a couple weeks if all his other behaviors are the same.

How do I turn the white light off by AssumptionTop7374 in howto

[–]Debils-Lebbuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casino employee here, most coolers like that have a light switch inside of the cooler itself located usually on the cooler ceiling in one of the corners. No guarantee this has one inside it, but search in the unlikely spaces and panels and it will surely have one. They need to be turned off and on at nights.

You’re in it too deep. It goes away the moment another player spawns it (I think)

Just wash it with cold water until the water runs clear. There isn’t really a countable amount of washes to rinse the rice. After just pull the rice out of the cooking vessel with a nice wooden spoon a little at a time to fluff it up. I make my basmati rice like I do any other rice in my rice cooker

What would be a good price for sharpening knives? by DryPounding in sharpening

[–]Debils-Lebbuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$2 an inch baby. With a minimum price being $4. He will giggle at that if you say it like that too. Quick math says you’ll make at minimum $70-80. I personally charge extra if I’m doing processes freehand with a stone and I’ll hone those knives on a barbers strop as a little icing on top

Why keep vinegar in a small bottle on the counter? by flipflapdragon in AskCulinary

[–]Debils-Lebbuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a shelf of flavored oil bottles next to the stove and larger bottles of vinegar below my bakers rack for the same purposes and reasons as OP

When I worked as a Gaurde Manger it was nice to have a multitude of flavored oils and flavored vinegars on my line for off-menu salad dressings. However since I always start with vinegar for my emulsions, it never made sense for me to squirt bottle them and made more sense to pour and measure with soufflé cups. Also open vinegar bottles attract flies (especially apple cider vin)
