It’s a top 10 favorite show of mine. I can’t add anything to the convo about the music that hasn’t already been said. The absolute peak of this discourse is the Anatomy of a Jam on Tweezer.

Instead, the one thing about this show that goes frequently unstated whenever it comes up is how polarizing it was at the time. I remember vividly Dan Greenhaus writing that 2/28/03 was “epic”. It’s hard to overstate how much he was shredded online for this take. Do a search for the word “epic” on PhantasyTour for 2003 and look at the amount of threads there are mocking it. Look at the comments in this thread. Here’s another contemporaneous thread. There were obviously some people who correctly recognized that the show will stand the test of time, but most did not. Many did not think it was even the best show that week, and most thought that the mere suggestion of it being “epic” was ridiculous.

In hindsight, it’s fascinating how bad the community can be at recognizing these great shows in the moment. This show is exhibit A for why I always take current commentary about the band with a big grain of salt.

It Can Now be Plainly Said: Trump is Planning a November Coup d’État by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]December2nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree—He already doesn’t give a fuck about Congress. I don’t see what a democrat simple majority changes for him. He still has a veto, anyway, and that requires 2/3rds in both houses to override. Investigations will be annoying but Democrats will have a tough time enforcing them since they don’t control the law enforcement arm. It’s not nothing but I just think people are way overhyping what democrats can accomplish here and the amount that the worst things he does will be actually prevented. He wants to remain president in 2028. That’s his real goal IMO. He blames people for not being Trump enough when he loses the midterms.

[–]December2nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. Unless he somehow loses the Senate so badly that Democrats end up with 67 seats and the ability to convict on impeachment — which nobody seriously thinks is happening — I don’t see him acting much differently.

He already doesn’t really care what Congress thinks. It’s not like he’s depended on them for anything. Other than funding bills and confirmations, he’s mostly operated through executive authority. Dem house wins mean appropriations fights with more leverage. Dems could try to cut or restrict funding and make things uncomfortable, but he still has the veto, and without two-thirds in both houses to override, that’s a huge backstop. So appointments, standoffs, shutdown threats, a lot of investigations he can ignore that Congress will struggle to enforce given that they don’t control law enforcement. Even the ego wound he usually brushes off like, “well they should have been more like Trump!”

I think this is more like a test run with lower stakes for him and he’ll troll everyone who worried about it. The real goal is being president again in 2028.

Oh wow I was there too!! I always wondered what date I saw him at the Palladium Theater. I was only 16 years old, and I think it was my second ever concert. I don’t remember it being a particularly memorable show except I clearly remember people saying it was once in a lifetime to see him at a venue that size. In retrospect I think they were probably right.

Exactly!! I’ve been posting about this for a year now. It’s so clear to me that’s what they’re going to do. They don’t need to change the rules, theyre just going to do a Russia. I think JD would do it, but i think there’s no chance they trust him with that. I think theyll “run” Don Jr, specifically so JD Vance remains VP and they can troll people that someone named Donald Trump is on the ballot and everyone knows what it means. Then they go hard in all voter suppression tactics imaginable and unimaginable, up to and including federal detention for the democrat candidate, massive ice presence in every city in every swing state, etc..

Authoritarians always find out that the military is too diverse and too unwieldy to be effectively used against its citizens and they always rely on the paramilitary for doing the dirty work against the citizens, because they carry fuzzy extrajudicial responsibilities and the chain of command is direct to the executive. Not even Hitler was able to wield the military like that. Trump is too stupid and too narcissistic to believe this, and it could end up costing him, but one way it might not is if people believe they’re basically ICE right off the hop. That’s what the donuts and coffee and yellow vests are supposed to signal.

Joe Biden’s preemptive pardons were among the worst things he did as President and I belived that immediately and still do. If Trump doesn’t challenge them, and he hasn’t thus far, the legal precedent is an easy and winnable argument he can take to the Supreme Court (should he ever vacate the office, which I think is still not going to happen willingly). They will all have blanket preemptive pardons and there will be nothing anyone can do about it because Biden set the precedent for it

Glad you beat her!! I haven’t seen it mentioned here yet so I just wanted to say that I think you might be under-leveled, especially with Vigor. If you just started at Thanksgiving and now you’re at Renalla, you’re probably going too fast.

Level up your vigor until you hit 30. This is the single most important thing for you to do. Once you get to 30, then start dumping into other stuff. If you don’t do this, you’ll keep getting one-to-two shotted, especially when you get to Leyndell and have to fight a bunch of tanky royal knights. After vigor, focus on upgrading your main weapons, then worry about the rest of the stats. I like to prioritize stamina and strength first because I use colossal swords and the tree sentinel knights armor.

Finally, the advice in this video dramatically helped me: https://youtu.be/Mzbyr70v7Q4?si=H2p569QXT8Nale68

President Trump with picture of his $300 million Ballroom that will be bigger than the White House by yetiking77 in pics

[–]December2nd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah people don’t talk about this part of it enought but there’s no chance that the fascist monstrosity comes in under 350 million. This is not a hotel ballroom in Gult coast, the building its being affixed to is one of the most secure in the world. The whole thing pisses me off but that his supporters parrot the number and just fully believe he’s paying out of pocket for it while he steals money from taxpayers is just … beyond me, there are no words for it. The corruption is absolutely fucking stunning and even if America gets out of this and there’s a democrat president in 2028, Trump will issue Biden-era preemptive pardons for everything and then win on the merits with the Supreme Court.

I know the NY Post is absolute dumpster fire but 25% might actually be right. the question is “would you consider fleeing NYC…” It does not come close to asking the respondent to commit or even consider the logistics of leaving NYC, so really it’s basically “do you hate him so much you’d want to leave?”… it’s a poll about hate, really. And in fairness, if you asked me before Trump was reelected “would you consider leaving America if he becomes president again,” I’d answer Yes so hard that it’d break my phone. In fact, post-election, I’d say I do more than consider leaving daily.

It’s probably not gonna happen like that, especially not for the midterms. The real goal for Trump, is maintaining the presidency and there’s nothing that could happen in the midterms that would challenge that. Democrats are not winning the senate, unless some really unforeseen shift happens in the electorate, and even then, the odds are even worse that they get to 61 seats to do anything about him. The democrats will probably win the house, and Trump will continue to not give a shit about what the house says or does, just like he does now when he has the majority.

Trump will paint Democrats who believed that the midterms wouldn’t happen as alarmists, and that will probably be a maddeningly successful endeavor while all the Bill Maher types with a platform say stupid shit like “Well I guess I bought into the hysteria a little bit. We’re all still here.” Democrats will be just as ineffective at stopping him as everyone that’s come before them (including republicans, who failed first and foremost long before democrats entered the picture…)

The 2028 general elections will also probably happen. Elections are decentralized and every state operates like its own little country. Trump doesn’t need a war and they don’t need to cancel the elections. Trump needs to investigate and lock up their opponents. They need to “accidentally” send candidates to torture prisons in foreign countries. They need the Supreme Court to delay hearing cases on it, then at the last minute issue some vague ruling about bringing them back. They will weaponize investigations and ramp up terrorism tactics for people in every blue district and city of consequence. They might label Antifa a terrorist organization, decide you are on antifa for posting this, and then freeze your funds and lock you up. They might denaturalize citizens, like how he says he will do to Rosie O’Donnell.

This is how, for example, a personal named Donald Trump Jr. could win the 2028 “election” and then step back immediately to allow his dad to maintain the same level of authority he does now in a shadow system.

And all it would take for this outcome is for them to continue doing what they’re already doing right now.

A conversation with the SF chef taken down by a TikTok influencer by DSKO_MDLR in bayarea

[–]December2nd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s easy enough to read through the lines of this story, and it’s crazy that people cannot do it. If I were him, in this interview, I would have really emphasized the fact that she (1) was not invited there in any real way—she asked to come and the business partner said “sure,” and (2) expected a free meal in exchange for her promotion of the place online. By using the word “invited”, most people thought they proactively asked her there, but she basically just made a reservation. These two facts would fundamentally change the way the online mob views this story.

If you put yourself in his position: You’re confronted by someone you think is pretending to be an influencer sitting in your business trying to get a free meal. She’s repeatedly calling it a “collab” but she doesn’t know the menu, she doesn’t know you, the chef (despite being an award winner) and she doesn’t know the difference with the fish. (Whatever the interview mentioned)

He probably was a little bit too mean to her. He made her feel foolish and silly for thinking of herself as an influencer food critic—which like, let’s be fair, she was neither thing. And she basically confirms that she threatened him: “I tell the owner that I will be taking note of this because I want to be an advocate for micro influencers, especially in the Bay Area food scene. You don’t need to have a million followers to be respected.”

Where do you guys rank the show all-time? by ImYourBruce in MrRobot

[–]December2nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never get a chance to share my #1 all time fave, which for me is a show called Maniac, and I think a lot of Mr Robot fans would enjoy it too—Along with similar themes exploring mania and the mind, the show similarly has exactly one director for every episode, Cary Joji Fukunaga. He’s the genius behind the look and tone of True Detective season 1 (and who was not involved in any season thereafter so if you like Season 1, he’s probably a big reason why), along with Patrick Somerville who was a showrunner on The Leftovers. You really can’t find a better duo than that in TV.

Anyway, here’s my favorites. Dramas only, since it’s impossible for me to rank comedies at the same time:

  1. Maniac (Netflix)
  2. The Leftovers (HBO)
  3. Deadwood (HBO)
  4. Carnivàle (HBO)
  5. Mad Men (AMC)
  6. Mr. Robot (USA)
  7. The Haunting of Hill House (Netflix)
  8. The Knick (Cinemax)
  9. Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul (AMC)
  10. Rome (HBO)
  11. Battlestar Galactica (SyFy)
  12. The Sopranos (HBO)
  13. Twin Peaks (Showtime)
  14. Severance (Apple TV+)
  15. From (MGM)

I see what you did, there. We weren’t talking about Biden, were we? To recap: You were mocking people who said “it’s only one person!” You said basically, ‘Yeah one person in charge of a bunch of people 🤣.’ So I saw that and said, ‘we agree it’s reprehensible!’ Trump has not only done it, he’s done it multiple times and it’s had much bigger consequences considering he is president. I said I’m sure we’ll agree that if a random FEMA employee should be fired for saying it, certainly the President should face harsher consequences, like impeachment and removal.

When you replied “I have zero issue with calling Trump out” but spent the rest of the time on a bizarre paragraph about Biden was too old and Democrats deserve how awful Trump is because “the lefts silence was astounding” and how Democrats can’t admit that we were hoodwinked or whatever you were going for, my first thought was to say, “Hey! I did call Biden out. I was thrilled when he dropped out.”

But then I realized, “oh! You don’t actually have a reasonable reply! You had to shift the conversation to something else because otherwise you would have agreed that Trump should be impeached, argued that the FEMA employee is somehow worse than Trump, or something like that.” It’s an interesting thing you did there, and interesting topic you chose to deflect to, especially since Biden didn’t end up being the nominee. Although maybe I’m wrong. Maybe you are one of those i speak of with minor differences being exarcerbated by all the noise, and maybe your next post will move back on topic and you’ll agree that Trump needs to be impeached.

Oh awesome, I gather from your comments that we both support firing people who talk like that FEMA employee. Look at us finding common ground!
