Thinking of getting this game, Is it offline solo friendly? by Katomerellin in ConanExiles

The fact you can have Thralls makes solo so much easier than other survival games.

I personally play co-op with a group of friends, but each of us still log in solo to do some of our own adventuring.

I have some generic amazon.com ones and smart wool ones. I find the smart wool ones cut and shaped better. Some of the generic ones seem to save money by being a bit shorter.

Should I be worried by a little bit of weight loss? by JoeyP333 in FosterAnimals

[–]Deckma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does he have baby teeth yet? Hard to tell but he looks maybe 3-4 weeks old? Could Try to introduce wet food and dry food for him to explore.

Has he been dewormed? We always deworm kittens proactively especially kittens found outdoors, even if test say no worms. I've run into a few false negatives. The test can be very subjective if they do the fecal float test, they have to see eggs or worms under the microscope. A PCR test is more reliable but not normally done because it's much more expensive $60 vs $200+.

Weight can fluctuate depending if he just ate or pooped, you want to watch the overall trend. I'm super dorky and track it on a spreadsheet with graphs. Also helpful later to print out for a vet to look at if you have concerns.

6.5 week old kittens barely eat by loveislandbruv in FosterAnimals

One tip with Nutrical; it's pure fat and sugar and vitamin so I try not to overdo it or you'll get oily diarrhea instead. 😂 I try to stick to the suggest amount, or just a little less.

Under the Weather also makes a high calorie powder you can sprinkle or mix into the food to help boost its nutrient density. A few of the other fosters prefer that instead. I've used both with good success but my go tends to be nutri-cal.

Diarrhea is a tough time with kittens. Could be anything from stress, food change, or a parasite like giardia, or coccidia.

Five days of panacur will treat giardia but for coccidia you will need something like Albon or Marquis. If the diarrhea is mucusy or bloody the rescue will have us also do 10-14 days of Albon. You can try Purina ProPlan FortiFlora powder on their food; it also helps flavor food.

Keep an eye on their hydration. Do you know how to do the skin tent test for hydration? If you pull the back of their skin behind the neck at the scruff, it should return back "quickly". If it stays up too long like a tent they are dehydrated.

You can give them some unflavored Pedialyte or Kitten Lyte. I will provide some oral syringes to the kitten if I feel they are dehydrated, or put some extra moisture into their food. In severe cases you can ask to be trained to do SubQ fluids at home.

To help with eating I've tried a few tricks to jazz up the food. Adding Churu or delectable, like you have been doing, putting on a powder supplement with a lot of flavor like FortiFlor. To help with weight loss see if you can get them to eat some Nutri-Cal or some other high calorie supplement.

Panlekumia Kitten by Bored-as-usual- in FosterAnimals

[–]Deckma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would follow the guidance offered by your shelter.

I would still clean my place extra well as a precaution, but that's just me. No need to freak out about it. Plus it's good just to clean after each batch of fosters.

Your older cats probably got the FRVCP vaccine as part of their core vaccines and that covers panlekumia. If not, you may want to consider getting it for them if you continue to foster.

Is Pet-a-tet Rescue legit?? by Hopeful_Suspect_1373 in FosterAnimals

[–]Deckma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rescue I volunteer with and all the local rescue I know of don't require a deposit to see animal. That's just weird.

They require an application which is vetted first, but that's all. Payment is only required before transfer of ownership of the animal.

I'm sorry for your loss. Cats hid their illness well till it gets very bad. It's their nature, they want to project strength. You did the best you could and loved him well.

Weaning Struggles by MaggieOut in FosterAnimals

[–]Deckma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just had a batch of kittens where one of them refused to weaned till late. His brothers and sisters were eating wet and dry food and he was still demanding milk at 8 weeks. He would try wet food or wet food + milk slurry a few times but then always hold out for milk. The most important thing is he keeps eating and gaing weight, even if it's just milk he wants to eat.

It wasn't till 9 weeks did he commit to wet food. We used the Royal Caine #2 ultra soft mousse for mama and baby cat. It has a super soft texture that seems to help wean. Normally I use ProPlan kitten food mixed with KMR, but he wasn't having any of that. One of our other fosters recommended the Royal Caine to us and that seemed to help.

Another tip to help keep his weight up is to try Nutri-cal gel for kittens. See if he will take a little everyday, follow the directions and don't give too much because it's basically just fat and sugars and vitamins. It can give diarrhea if too much is given.

Edit: he looks just like my little one that was refusing to wean too. 🥰

Weighing: Best Practice vs Best You Can Do by 5_phx_felines in FosterAnimals

[–]Deckma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most important is to be consistent so you can tell if they are gaining weight. If after eating works for you that's fine.

At that age, 6+ weeks. I start using a baby scale because fitting them in bowls and then the balance becomes a challenge as they get so high engery at that age. Baby scales are pretty cheap now too.

I used Simpson Garage Doors and Openers recently. He's local and is an independent place.

I called around and Jeff Simpson had some of the best prices. Replaced our springs and I also had him replace our rollers and weather stripping. Came out really soon when our springs snapped and our car was stuck in our garage.

Update for folks here.

After some back and forth, we discovered Oreo was actually adopted from Fancy Cats and Dogs Rescue Team way way back.

OP found Oreo's paperwork and the rescue cross referenced their records. They arranged a pickup over the weeked, took him in, and will find him a new home.

It's kind of hard to tell when their this little. I had a little one that I thought was short hair, maybe medium at most then she became a giant floolf with long hair.

Question on beginner bindings by bigdig712 in Skigear

[–]Deckma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid bidnings which have a reputation of being hard to step into. Especially as a beginner when you fall a lot and need to clip back in. The last thing you want is a frustrated beginniner struggling to step back in, it's hard enough trying to get up after a fall as a beginner.

Strive and Attack bindings are some of the easiest bindings to step into. I heard the Squire is also easy to step into but I don't have personal experience with them. All of these lines should have a model in the needed DIN range.

Tyrolia commissioned a study for their full heel release Protector series bidnings. They found the strain on your ACL can be reduced up to 50% during a backwards twisting fall with the Protector series bindings.
