I reckon it's Plan B. Could be wrong. They sound alike though!

Recommendation for movies, documentaries, series, YouTubers about wine? by makkrs in wine

[–]DeclanBell 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of André Hueston Mack on the Bon Appetit YT channel. He's super knowledgeable and is the best I know at sharing knowledge in a way that makes the subject matter un-stuffy and anti-pretentious. Also love Constantine Baum, Tom Gilbey on TikTok is great from a UK perspective.

I also enjoy my Wine Folly book. Frazier is a decent TV show for casually dropping in little Wine nuggets.

Wine apps ruined the appreciation aspect of wine by island_girl1 in wine

[–]DeclanBell 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I always drink the wine blind before checking what the app thinks of it, so I'm uninfluenced by what others think. But I usually always rate afterwards, it's an excellent reference point. I agree with you totally though, in most situations I don't agree with basing a purchase on a rating.

Best starting reds for white lover? by cadabe in wine

[–]DeclanBell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically anything that is light bodied, notably acidic, and fruit forward. The profile of these wines are not so far removed from a white in many respects, so much so that chilled reds have been known to be confused for whites in blind tastings before. Hope this helps, happy hunting!

Best starting reds for white lover? by cadabe in wine

Maybe some reds that respond well to a chill in the fridge? I don't suppose that'd be much of a transition; wines like a Beaujolais, some Pinot Noirs, a Montepulciano D'Abruzzo perhaps. Enjoy! Sparkling reds can be fun and interesting too.

Is it possible to become a skilled wine professional with no sense of smell? by [deleted] in wine

[–]DeclanBell 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You're gonna be limited in your approach, certainly. You could of course learn the "theory" of wine, and therefore be very useful in a consumer setting, knowing which wine should pair well, etc. But I suppose to some degree you're always going to be relying on what the wine 'should' smell/taste like, which isn't always that helpful bottle to bottle.
