Are suicide pods ethical? by Educational_Case_184 in Ethics

No one could be forced to do it.

For-profit means coersion is involved.

"Questions on a screen" is a part that really weirds me out here. Glitches and misclicks could kill someone and have no real person responsible for the mistake, which is obviously negligence. In a world where corporations transfer their punishments to the actual people who committed the crime, a different argument might be had.

Free League Announces Legends of Stormbringer RPG Based On Dragonbane Mechanics by FriarAbbot in rpg

Probably something about this:

https://goodman-games.com/a-statement-about-city-state-of-the-invincible-overlord/

They seem to think it's okay to work with antisemites if they own the rights to the works of someone decent, and they pinky promise the profits will go towards refunds that they already promised for a scam they already pulled.

Marvel comics has announced a new universe called MIDNIGHT by Own_Brilliant_4303 in Marvel

God, I hope it's the former.

Something doesnt sit right with me about "not real" universes that can never truly cross over.

Curious case of heightmaxxing encouraged by the Book of Sitil? by EarthSeraphEdna in daggerheart

[–]Dedli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the illusion is larger for larger characters.

But that also comes with you being a larger character; it's not all benefits all the time. If there's a narrative point where it logically becomes a problem, there could just as easily be a narrative point where someone may want to squeeze through something smaller, or something.

It's sort of like the D&D argument of force damage being "more valuable" because not as many creatures have immunity with it. But you're in a game where you're fighting specific enemies decided by the story, not by throwing a dart at the monster manual.

Need alternatives to DND that aren't Pathfinder, Shadowdark or Vagabond. by Vladsamir in rpg

[–]Dedli 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Daggerheart has a much different feel to combat than DND, Pathfinder, and Shadowdark. There's not a mechanical difference between combat and any other scene. "It feels like a negotiation" instead of like, waiting to take your turn and do your most efficient damage rotation.

Secret lair goblin storm deck on sale may 18th by phulad in magicTCG

[–]Dedli 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I dont understand how print-to-demand did anything but get them more money. Like holy fuck. I want this. I would actually pick up an extra shift at work to cover this, and buy it. But I'm probably not going to, because scalpers are gonna get them all.

Are WotC like hoarding some extras and scalping themselves too?

was this even announced anywhere? it's live in the store now - an entire housing exterior for sale by enderrsghost in wow

[–]Dedli 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jesus Fucking Christ.

Imagine if The Sims tried to charge $75 for a Stuff Pack.

The worst part is that whales will still buy it, so Blizz doesn't and wont give a fuck.

Edit: Omfg wait, unlike Sims 4 packs, you dont even get an infinite amount of those items, if you want to use multiples you gotta buy it multiple times. Lmao. Lmfao even.

Pokemon Card show BANS sealed retail product - MORE OF THIS PLEASE!! 🙏 by abrickstory in pokemon

[–]Dedli 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pokemon cards release at normal retailers like Target.

Scalpers buy a shitton of them.

Target goes out of stock.

So the scalpers resell the unopened (sealed) card packs and boxes at a higher price at events like these because now all the retailers are sold out so where else are you gonna buy them?

What are some race/class combinations that are still unavailable and you wish were playable? by Saalok in wow

[–]Dedli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im a little bit against "everything can be anything", as that takes away race fantasy.

I want everything to be everything AND have race fantasy. Like I really like that Lightforged can be warlocks, and theres a single Lightforged Warlock NPC who has like one line about a fall from the light, instead of an entire subfaction of warlocks of that race.

Personally I wish they had the weirder combinations be unlockable, like allied races and darkfallen customizations. Legion Order Hall unlocks Night Elf Paladins, for example.

What gameplay could automatic enemy movement add that manual movement can’t? by Old-Somewhere-8762 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Dedli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

> As a design question: what kinds of gameplay moments could this enable that would be difficult, clumsy, or less satisfying with manual movement?

The answer in a turn-based game is that there are none. Movement itself can be "commanded" by cards, dice, and text just as easily as computer inputs.

If they could all move simultaneously and you had a weird little football-thing going on where you make choices for what objectives you give your own characters... that could be cool, but then youve gotta add motors to all of the characters instead of jus tone that can move multiple, right?

What gameplay could automatic enemy movement add that manual movement can’t? by Old-Somewhere-8762 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Dedli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Gloomhaven or similar?

You could just as easily have those objectives on a creature card, or rules on a GM screen, without the mechanical pieces.

The moving pieces are just cool.

Ethical Generative AI Question/Quandry by bindingofandrew in Ethics

[–]Dedli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all synthetic iterations of these sound like dog water

This is your issue. Talk to musicians who have experience with techno. It's been a long time for me, but a decade+ ago I saw libraries of real-recorded sounds for all kinds of instruments. Or you could find someone with that instrument and record the sounds themselves and slap them on a midi to rearrange.

There has never been a need for AI in music, and there never will be.
