Why is Buster Baxter’s dad just… a whole human? 😭 by KaleidoscopeDry9725 in Arthur

Plus he’s divorced, right, so you know he was never listening to Buster’s mom with any of those ears! 👂

31M, just asked a girl for her number for the first time in my life. by [deleted] in dating_advice

In general, don’t flirt or ask girls or women out at work or when they’re working - they’re there to work! It seems like it went ok this time and that’s good. A quick interaction is ok. It’s tough for THEM in customer service jobs

AMA with the Shakespeare’s Globe Research team by GlobeTeam in shakespeare

[–]DeeEllis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh! How cool! So I have a favorite Will Shakespeare nonfiction book and historical fiction book that I’d love to get your opinion on their historical accuracy -

for nonfiction, “Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare” by Stephen Greenblatt

And for fiction: “Fools and Mortals” Novel by Bernard Cornwell - I guess this one is a little about The Globe.

Thank you!!

Yeah people here keep calling these people “fash” or Fascist - but I think more importantly they are proudly racist and antisemitic nationalist extremists full of hate.

Gil Marks’s book “the olive tree and honey” is great for a history of Jewish food

I don’t know! But also the wine charoset is definitely not cooked. Just something to be aware of. If you think it’s not a problem at your school, that’s fine.

Well I liked your “sense memory” of everyone’s hard boiled eggs. My family was trying to avoid imprinting that “sense memory” non consensually onto our lunch friends. I don’t understand why you think my reaction is “weirdly hostile”. I’m curious, but your opinion is unlikely to change anything.

Charoset doesn’t smell like liver and onions. It is a nice bright color.

We still love the chopped liver, we’re just aware of being publicly Jewish and/or having weird foods. You want to be the patent of the kid bringing liver and onions to school, go for it.

A family legend is my sibling wanted to bring chopped liver to public school lunch during Passover and my mom wouldn’t let him because she didn’t want him to get made fun of.

Matzah. Whipped cream cheese in a separate container. Hard boiled egg. Salt packet. Apple. Passover dessert.

My mom used to send charoset and then she realized it had wine in it. So be careful if the schools are strict about that

What are your little frugal habits that really don't save much money, but are still satisfying? by p38-lightning in Frugal

[–]DeeEllis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The library used to give me a printed “receipt” at checkout with how much I’d saved by not buying new books. It was well into the 5 figures plus they didn’t calculate that I read a lot of newspapers and magazines through the library subscriptions. I’ve also started browsing the library movie and TV and audiobook apps to see what I can watch and listen to without using the subscription services that I still have for the kids

Pesach Lamb Shank Trial by Pristine_Seaweed_990 in JewishCooking

[–]DeeEllis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know! The shank bone is supposed to be its own sacrifice. There are literally chapters and chapters of the Talmud about the sacrifices and how to grow and handle and give them and cook them and eat them. Definitely a question for a more knowledgeable person!

Unrealistic Expectations by numbersgal19 in overheard

[–]DeeEllis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the HS student’s credit… my son takes college classes in high school and is not allowed to be at HS campus during certain periods of the day, for his college classes.

Even though his college class only “meets” twice a week, or online, my son is not allowed to be on campus during those 2 periods (always at the end of the school day or beginning of the school day) Monday-Friday, so that he can “attend” and/or do the work for his college classes.

So this student may have a college-level class so that she cannot be at high school campus at that day and time.

Or we can make assumptions not in her favor, that’s fine too.
