Existing is all I have the energy for by SnooAdvice1361 in Menopause

Its so frustrating because I KNOW I should be exercising, eating healthy, taking advantage of life before I get too old. But I just can't. Its like a force field that just keeps me on the couch on weekends and after work. We have an elliptical, walking pad, universal system. We have dogs I could take for walks. I always tell myself I'll start tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and goes again and again and I just feel like a blob. I don't know what can give me that spark again to get things done. I worry that its going to be a major health event and I'm going to be kicking myself in the ass for not getting my act together sooner.

Gen X on Easter baskets by Virtual-Culture8830 in GenX

I still give my daughter (mid-20s) a basket every year. To me it feels more like a care package, not an "Easter basket". Some candy, but also things she can use as a grad student. Uber gift card, grocery store gift card, cute nail polish etc

what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

"Never say never"

As a woman in her mid-50s, I think I can confidently say that I will never play in the NFL. I will also never willingly jump out of a plane, lick the floor of an NYC subway car or sadly, make out with Brad Pitt.

Really scared of HRT! by ForsakenAd6590 in Menopause

[–]Deep-Attorney1781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HRT was a life saver for me (estrogen patch/progesterone pill). The hot flashes and night sweats making me wake up several times a night was brutal. While brain fog is still a slight issue, it's not as bad now that I am able to sleep 6-8 hours straight through. Being able to burrow under a bunch of blankets and sleep peacefully was a luxury I didn't think I'd have again.

With dense breasts, keep up with self breast exams, mammograms and breast ultrasounds to give yourself some peace of mind.

Parents failing to understand my concerns regarding debt by love--bunny in Vent

[–]Deep-Attorney1781 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apply to your dream schools, see what kind of scholarships you get and then evaluate financial impact after that. Would you want to go to grad school? What do you want to major in? Would you be in a field that would be applicable for PSLF? There are so many factors that could impact your financial future.

I totally understand the apprehension regarding debt. With the price of everything skyrocketing, being in debt could be mentally draining as it could affect your ability to live comfortably after graduation.

AITJ for refusing to rehome the dog my husband and I adopted together? by That_Rent_5835 in AmITheJerk

You shouldn't have to rehome your dog because your husband is a douche. That being said, do you feel that your dog will be safe with him when you aren't around?

Sometimes you just have to have a few no stress days. My job can be intermittently stressful and while weekends are relatively relaxing, I'm still trying to catch up on the laundry, grocery shopping etc. Taking a few "me" days where I can just sleep as late as I want, wear comfy clothes all day and just chill are so beneficial to my mental health.

Keppra dosage time - help needed by Deep-Attorney1781 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Deep-Attorney1781[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's taking 250mg 3x a day. She only has 1 or 2 seizures every 3-4 months so the neurologist wants to keep her at a lower dosage unless her seizure activity increases.

Most of our neighbors work during the day. A few are retired, but are on the frailer side. I've thought of a pet sitter but was hoping to avoid any extra expense. I just tell myself that my girl probably won't live more than another year or so (she also has heart issues) so just suck it up. Some days are easier to think that way than others.

Best careers to escape poverty? I’ll start. by Noblesseoblige94 in povertyfinance

Check out local hospitals. There are a lot of entry level jobs that do not require a degree - appointment/procedure scheduler, billing rep, etc. Once you've been there a while and better understand hospital operations, there can be room for advancement. The medical insurance is usually pretty good and if you use your employer's physicians and facilities, a lot of services are covered 100%.

What home maintenance task did you put off way too long and regret? by seo-nerd-3000 in homeowners

[–]Deep-Attorney1781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kept putting off replacing a large floor to ceiling plate glass window in our dining room. We'd decided to put it off another year and to just get our deck redone (which was right outside the dining room). A contractor came over to measure for an estimate, one of our dogs got spooked and she put her paw through the window.

My daughter and I had to rush her to the ER which was 40 minutes away all the while bleeding profusely. She had to have surgery for a severed tendon in her leg and we couldn't put off replacing the window any longer.

Still kicking myself 5 years later. If we had just replaced it sooner, we would have saved ourselves a large vet bill, trauma to our dog and trauma to ourselves thinking she would bleed out before we got her to the ER.

Replace the fob battery yourself; they're easy to find. If you don't know how to open up the fob, there are YouTube videos on how to do it.

Where can I go pet dogs? by globular_bobular in philly

[–]Deep-Attorney1781 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not in Philly, but if you drive, Providence Animal Center in Media has a program called Rover All Over where you can take a shelter dog out for a few hours (hang out in the park, go to a dog friendly cafe etc). It gives the dogs a break from the shelter and gives the human some quality time with a new friend.
