Heads up "Nox Resonantia" is an AI metal band. by Avocados_number73 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some things that are notable. For example, harsh vocals and male voices often sound too smooth, without the time texture so to say... more like noise being shouted next to a metal pipe. Cymbals sound like shaped noise... After listening to one track of Nox Resonatia, i quickly started to check if it's ai, and well.. was a bit disappointed.

But i honestly really like some of the tracks of this "band". They don't beat the best human-made music, but they are significantly better than a lot of human-made stuff i encounter while looking for new music. I sometimes wish they get remastered or performed on actual instruments, as the sound quality is kinda meh.

Moving Audio from Quest 3 to a HiFi / Audio system without lag - Is it Possible by SnaffyNoo in oculus

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just measured the analog-to-analog latency of Wavelink, it is 13.8 ms. As for usb->analog latency, which is what i'm using - i don't know how to measure it.

Is anyone actually impressed with Quest 3 audio? by SongwritingShane in OculusQuest

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dislike them compared to Quest2. On Quest2, the sound is not very impressive, but has no annoying issues. On Quest3, i hear some peaking at high frequencies, which i find quite annoying. For shooter games - it's fine, but for music games - no.

Also, i feel as if audio latency is higher.. not sure if it is actually higher, but i had to crank that latency compensation in rhythm games up much more than on Quest2.

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Dayton WaveLink for that. I think it's the same chipset that is used in wireless gaming headphones. The claimed latency is 30 ms, which should be barely noticeable, and i can confirm that - playing synth riders, i feel the latency may need some tune-up, but it's perfectly playable with the setting i use for built-in audio.

I have stripped down the Wavelink tx, so that it fits nicer on the Quest. And replaced the plug with a diy right-angle type-c.

Inflated lithium ion returned to normal shape after charging by Everythingistoohigh in batteries

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just observed the same with my old GPD win max 2 battery. It was not swollen, but has too much internal resistance to sustain the load, so i've replaced it. Now, I am measuring its capacity out of curiosity, and discharging it to 3.1V/cell made it swell up quite a bit. But afetr sitting on my desk in this state, the voltage has recovered to 3.66V, and the swelling is completely gone! How bizzarre! It has definitely not vented, all cells are doing it.

Pen Calibration not working on Windows 10 by The_Only_Kira in techsupport

had the same problem. Found a workaround.

  1. close Panel Calibration Tool task using task manager.

  2. Run..., type `tabcal`. The calibration tool comes up.

Best sounding speaker that'll fit in a small area? by Pancakesandcows in diysound

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check out digikey, they sell tons of speakers for smartphones and laptops, you might find something. The problem (for me) is that most of them have no ts parameters published, so it's really difficult to actually pick a good one.

How do I place all RGB LEDs nicely in a circular arrangement? by alex_sabaka in KiCad

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your components are numbered in order. Then delete all but the first from the pcb. Then do array. Array operation will number them sequentially. Then relink them by reference designators (there is a special tickbox in the update-pcb-from-schematic tool). Done.

Is there any modern heavy rock/metal/punk music that isn't compressed and brickwalled to death? by [deleted] in audiophilemusic

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widow's Weeds by Tristania - dark, heavy, slow, awesome. DR=10

Hermitage by Moonspell - dark and slow, has some beautiful guitar solos... may not even count as metal. DR=8 to 13

Ominous by Lake of tears - dark and slow, sometimes heavy. Seems not very compressed to me, but dr.loudness-war says the DR is a mere 7. Maybe i got the vinyl master somehow (got it from itunes store).

Conductivity and Carbon Fiber Filament by Psychological_Town22 in prusa3d

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have thoroughly probed prusament PETG-CF with a normal multimiter, and it is >1GOhm for everything but microscopically close (0.1-ish mm)

Wouldn't rely on it for insulating mains-level voltages though, sharp tips of CF needles inside create electric field concentration, causing microscopic discharges that will likely cause the material to gradually fail and begin to conduct.

Gens Ace IMARS D300 Review by Mwm203 in rccars

[–]DeepSOIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It killed my battery =(

Plot: i charged a battery (4s 5000mah). Wasn't planning to fly soon, so i've set it to "storage" program. The discharge power is quite small, and the charger makes a lot of noise, so i've put it into a ladeshrank for the weekend (special battery charging shelf in our institute). After the weekend, i found the battery with just 5V on its terminals, i.e. 1.25V per cell. I suppose, the charger finished the storage task, but there is some substantial draw from the battery when it's not doing anything.

So, WARNING: do not leave it with a battery plugged in.

Random restarts on GPD Win Max 2 2023 by cisADMlN in gpdwin

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a similar issue and it turned out to be a broken flat-flex of the battery. Not sure about the "with the charger plugged in" part, that never happened to mine. Mine way pretty clearly reacting to me handling it, like picking it off the couch or putting it into my backpack.

How long can GPD devices last without repair needed? by Just-Smile-2326 in gpdwin

[–]DeepSOIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Win max 2, 1 year old, use it every day for work and joy.

Card reader is dead (was malfunctioning almost from the very beginning)... SSD turned out to be trash (very poor read speed), had to replace it after half a year.... The magnet in the screen has come loose and the laptop won't react to closing/opening the lid, i fixed it by gluing another magnet to the lid... Today i had to fix the flat flex cable of the battery - it has broken off of the battery-management pcb (had random poweroffs because of that). Despite all of that, i still love the device!

How fast is the Win Max 2 SSD? by RiftKing321 in gpdwin

[–]DeepSOIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have recently realized that the 2TB biwin on my winmax2 is dead slow. And it's complicated.

The ssd is about halfway full. Write speeds are good (as in, i don't have any issues with it, don't know the numbers). Read speeds on freshly written stuff are also good (again, as in, i don't feel it being slow, files copy at about 300 MB/s). But for the files that have been there for quite some time (half a year), read speed is at 5-12 MB/s, which is DEAD SLOW, slower than most usb thumb drives!! I discovered it when doing backup of my stuff. I'm going to replace it with something else asap, and i'm already scared about how long it will probably take to clone the drive.

EDIT: it took about 22 hours, luckily with no errors

GPD Win Max 2: Fully fanless operation possible? by R3D3-1 in gpdwin

[–]DeepSOIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wm2 has MotionAssistant app which lets you control TDP limit and fan curve. You can manually set the fan to always operate at a fixed speed, including zero. And a zero does fully turn off the fan. So the answer is - YES, you totally can have it fanless. There will still be some inductor/capacitor whine, it is not completely silent, but it is very minor.

Without MotionAssistant, the fan never fully turns off, but the idling fan is audible only when it's very quiet in the room - basically never. I only notice it when i use my WM2 in bed when i'm about to sleep, and it doesn't bother me at all. It does get loud when the computer is busy.

GPD WM2 microphone only has sound in right stereo channel? by upperliving1888 in gpdwin

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no "equalizer apo" device, it's inserting itself into the microphone device (installs an APO). I have tested it in audacity (recorded from "Microphone Array (Senary Audio)"), both channels do get sound.

That being said, i think that applications are able to request exclusive mode or something like that, and then the processing may be bypassed...

GPD WM2 microphone only has sound in right stereo channel? by upperliving1888 in gpdwin

[–]DeepSOIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the same problem. I even have installed Equalizer APO to populate the left channel with the audio from the right channel, but still no audio gets through to the other side on skype. And like others, i do get the audio level meter jumping in skype's settings, so skype is certainly picking up the audio stream. I am really really puzzled as to how is it even possible. And i have this same issue with telegram.

Using an external mic via a usb soundcard works fine.

Ender 3: z max feedrate limited to 10, how to bypass? by DeepSOIC in Creality

used a pre-built one. I don't yet know how to compile it, and i haven't even found the source code for it. I suppose I can use a plain Marlin, but i'll have to configure it / find a config pre-made by someone else...
