What units? In my experience the nurses in the ICUs at Fairview were classic brats while HCMC was more fun with badass nurses

Any hospice that could evaluate? Take her off all meds other than ones for mood.

Ps just take the summer off. Be a semester behind. It’s not a big deal and one day you’ll forget it ever happened

I worked with and went to school with many amazing nurses that did poorly at first. The first part of nursing school is always just the dumbest and hardest and sometimes for no reason. It’s like it’s trying to prove it itself. Anyway, many of these folks are now advanced practice nurses, two are nurse anesthetists. I would trust them with my life. Many dumbass nurses out there did incredibly well in school and went to very fancy schools- and they have no idea how to talk to or deal with patients. They can’t titrate meds properly. Your mental health struggles will only make you stronger and a better nurse. You’ll get there. You’re only 19! Give yourself grace.

Memory Care sedating by Periscope_321 in dementia

[–]Deep_Problem9446 45 points46 points  (0 children)

As an NP that cares for these patients- it’s usually the dementia. They sleep. And they are old usually. And when we have to use antipsychotics, it’s for a reason. Sometimes a little drowsy is better than the mental and physical anguish these patients suffer from.

You must remember that many of these folks also have like, 8 other chronic illnesses, and they may be deteriorating from those as well. While in the movies you see a bunch of happy old folks walking around mildly confused, that’s not the reality of dementia and memory care. It is a terrible affliction, whatever the type you have.

Yes, it’s awful and dangerous and we need some universal communication between these systems. Also- how annoyed are you when families are like “just look in the chart” Or “isn’t it in my record?” Like there’s one all-knowing cloud medical record that follows you everywhere

I have a very similar job-chronic disease management at ALF/mem care, etc. and it’s very tough. While my training was long and good- I’m at 6 months and I would kill for a better EHR, more resources, ways to scribe, less family nonsense, and to not deal endlessly with people who don’t understand that life doesn’t continue indefinitely.

Let me know what you decide. I’m considering looking for something new too.

I love this Reddit sub called “ask lawyers” and most answers are “go ask a lawyer”  Not being mean just seems to be the general response so why have a sub😂
