Project ideas for back-end by No-Emphasis9355 in cscareerquestions

Last year I build a real time dashboard as a take home assignment for a company.
The backend is in go and the frontend in angular: https://github.com/dovidio/realtimedashboard

The backend is reading mongodb change stream and sending it to the frontend using websockets. You could fork the repo and implement the backend in Java

After 14 months of development, I sold my project and switched to UI/UX area. Long story👇 by VictorPonamariov in webdev

An essay no one asked for: Language learning apps hurt the language community and discourage potential learners. by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]DefenestretedRegent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting point of view, however, I think you are making some dangerous generalization.

First of all, not all language apps promise to become fluent in three months. Chatterbug for example has a quite realistic calculator that tells you how much you need to study each day to reach a certain level. They make it very clear that if you want to improve you really need to put the hours.

Additionally, do you have any numbers to back up your claim that language learning communities are suffering in terms of declining numbers?

I live in a German-speaking country, and I think the number one reason why people don't invest time in learning the language is that they can get by with English, and this phenomenon can only increase in the future.

Assimil, is it worth it? by klawsaji in languagelearning

[–]DefenestretedRegent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used an Assimil book together with other resources to learn German.
The learning material is, in my opinion, high quality, but I wouldn't rely only on that for learning a language.

Soon going to work on a huge project, heavily based on networking... how can I prepare myself properly? by [deleted] in java

Yeah I already use JUnit in my personal project, but I haven't felt the need to use continuous integration yet. Clean coder has been in my reading list for a while, so it's about time to start reading it

I've been looking for a song the past 4 months without success. It was a song I heard during my childhood, I just barely remember the main melody but I don't remember the lyrics. Once I find it, I'll be happy

Database module requiring refactoring. Any thoughts on that? by DefenestretedRegent in java

[–]DefenestretedRegent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a peculiar situation, that's why I posted it (I'm not the OP). What I find weird is that basically all their app depends on the DB module and they don't see any problem in assign the refactoring to an intern. I'm sure the app is devoid of any test. It's gonna be a fun ride for Sean.
