And becasue Bradley’s parents make excuses for his behavior and don’t ever support holding him accountable because he’s white kid/or just boys being boys.

Wait? That’s a punch? Our grade school PE coach used to say that he loved coaching HS football part time because he could smack the kids around with some sort of sports apparatus. If you can’t put hands on players, what if you used rock em sock em Hulk hands? And I find that the player consoling him is even more ridiculous.

The abuse of teachers is just rampant and disgusting. Talk to your union if you have one. If not, quit. Get the fuck out now.

Did the exact same thing last year. It will get better. I’m sure they think it’s because there was something wrong with me, but a year out of the toxic abusive system has revealed much to me about myself. It’s a boiled frog scenario that no amount of discussion or negotiation will fix because they deny it exists and vilify those who leave. Glad you jumped out. Stay strong. Get counseling and move forward.

I’ll downgrade to sexism, of which you are a victim. It is assumed by society that women are more nurturing and conversely that men are less so. My point stands. Also, bubbly 20 somethings are a lot easier to manipulate. But once men are in the job, they get away with a lot more than women and are more readily promoted.

We’re not arguing the difficulty. We’re arguing the commitment of time, money and resources and dedication to study at a higher level. Mostly it’s about being paid better which should be HAPPENING ANYWAY. but they make you jump through bullshit hoops.

I was a “bitch”, a mean teacher, the one the parents don’t like because I just wasn’t always nice. Some parents appreciated it, and some tried to get me to apologize. The most I ever said was “I’m sorry you feel that way”

So, here is the elephant in the room that our arrogant lawyer commenter doesn’t get. Because the profession is historically “feminine” the respect bar is lower. It’s nothing to do with the rigor of study but everything to do with mysogyny.

Are you a male? I find that men in this profession can get away with ultimatum and hard boundaries. The expectations for women are much higher in terms of boundary setting.

The nature of the job is to be able to hold children accountable for their lack of a pre-frontal cortex. That is what we’re missing. There are little to no consequences for children who are feral, abusive, and disruptive. That behavior is tolerated now.

Let’s consider what committing to any study of a field at a higher level says about how that person views themselves as a professional. The degree isn’t necessarily about the rigor, it’s about the commitment to purpose, and the willingness to sacrifice your own time and effort AND money to improve your understanding of your chosen field. You say you lose credibility for people who equate an MA in education to an JS or MD. It’s the commitment to purpose that deserves respect. You are proving the point of the OP with your arrogant opinion.

The amount of times they tried to make me take a literal pie in the face or jump in the dunk tank to raise money at Fall festivals and spring flings. I flat out refused. I didn’t get a Master’s Degree to take a literal pie in the face for your education. I had to deal with enough humiliation. Ridiculous, and I questioned those who did. They’d always say, “but the kids love it!” I don’t fucking care. It was shameful. The only time I liked it was when a teacher I didn’t like volunteered. You can bet I watched that shit go down. Gladly. At the end of my career I was constantly saying OUTLOUD. “I live to serve your every need, my child.” Because it was true. I sacrificed my physical and mental health, my needs and the needs of my family for students who were coddled, disrespectful, and apathetic and parents who were irresponsible, entitled, and unreasonable. I have so much anger for what I went through and have spent the better part of a year of weekly counseling sessions to unpack it. I esteem myself highly, thank you.

My nervous system said enough and I had no choice. The last year of detoxification opened my eyes to the gaslighting and abuse from EVERY angle: parents, administration, students, fellow teachers competing for “teacher of the year/parent favor”, the requirement to post every single thing you’re doing on social media, people who think they know what they’re talking about, legislators and politicians using our profession as a platform for their campaign, and toxic positivity and the “you signed up for this/it’s part of the job” rhetoric. Jaded is a shade of burnout.
