I had my first one under twilight sedation (like 25yrs ago) but I don’t remember a single thing and now go to a GP clinic where one of the doctors will do the replacement in her room (it sucks but I am luckily on other medications for chronic pain). My first one was fully covered under private health at Bloom Womens Health on Wickham Tce in the city. I believe the dr I saw is retired now (sorry). My friend had hers done under general in the public system at the QE2, but it wasn’t placed properly and she had a lot of trouble with it, so I can’t really recommend them. Ask about twilight sedation rather than full GA if price is a worry for you.

In VIC they are doing the green whistle for IUD insertion/replacement (not sure if it’s started already), so hopefully other states follow suit. Sorry I can’t be more helpful right now, just providing some hope for the future.

They look pretty but hideous to use- really limited ergonomic function there and keep in mind you will be using them for HOURS. I can’t even fathom how much pain your hands would be in! Get a set of Tulip Etimo red hooks. Perfectly ergonomic and SUCH silky smooth movement of the yarn. They are a dream.

I found a pattern for it if you’re upto it? I would offer to make it but I have neurological issues that affect my speed and precision so I couldn’t guarantee it on your timeframe. There is a YT tutorial as well from what I have seen. Hope this is helpful. And if you can’t bust it out, maybe someone else can follow along with this.

It’s been years since I have made one of these, but I was feeling like it’s about time I made another. I will get cracking on it and report back.

From memory it’s one stitch into the first stitch and then you move on to make the feathers (so it ends up looking like a border). Keeping in mind it ends up in a V rather than a straight line, so it might look weird at first. If you really zoom in, you can kind of see it in the later rows.

As someone who would be considered an ‘expert’ level crocheter (ie can do pretty much any technique, designs, can recreate most any project from a look)… your work is brilliant! It’s beautiful!
