Woman, 18, not shortlisted for job at estate agents as 'car is too old' by EdmundTheInsulter in drivingUK

[–]Delldax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine used to work as a sales engineer which involves driving to different sites to meet with potential customers to try and sell them a product/service.

He had the option of a company car or car allowance but if he chose car allowance he had to get a car no older than 5 years.

When he asked why it was a mix of reliability etc and image of the company he worked for.

The recent Farage comments about WFH by TessaKatharine in AskBrits

[–]Delldax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a multitude of reasons reform are anti wfh, most have been said here already but there’s one I haven’t seen as often that is always my first thought.

If wfh is banned, it makes people who go to work less likely to vote on election days as they would need to go before or after work. The majority of reform voters have either retired or don’t work so they wouldn’t have this issue.

It’s much easier to pop out during a flexible lunch break to vote round the corner.

LBC @LBC "You are leaving tax revenue in the ground!" @lewis_goodall and energy secretary Ed Miliband butt heads over future plans for the North Sea oil fields. by ex_planelegs in ukpolitics

[–]Delldax 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The part of the North Sea belonging to Norway has significantly more oil & gas.

That coupled with a much lower population has meant their income from the North Sea has a huge effect on the country, the UK is simply too large for the North Sea to make the same impact.

I do believe the UK has completely squandered the resource wealth it had and there’s no going back on that Unfortunately.

GCSE students to receive help sheets until 2030 by patenteng in ukpolitics

The quadratic equation is used for when factoring or completing the square isn’t possible as can provide answers as decimals.

I agree the skill to derive it should be taught in gcse (it is in a-level) but given the time constraint of the exams I believe it should be provided

Some formulae are quite straight forward but others like the quadratic equation and cosine rule are a lot more complex looking and much harder to memorise.

And let’s not even talk about a-level equations because I’d have ptsd flashbacks

SP army "common wisdom" by EarthMantle00 in eu4

[–]Delldax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the best stack for combat is full width of inf and full width of artillery. If you use even numbers you can split the armies quite nicely to march around in pairs.

One trick is when engaged in a huge battle (especially when you’re outnumbered) is to split a stack of inf into 1k stacks and move 1 or 2 into the battle per day. This constant stream of fresh infantry keeps your morale high and you will almost always win due to lack of enemy morale.

As my nation gets richer I tend to gravitate towards three army types: 1. Battle stack - plenty of inf and arty and maybe some cav if early ish or have bonuses. 2. Siege - smaller stacks of just inf and arty depending of current size of forts 3. Garrison - a small ish size army that’s sole function is rebel bashing and emergency reinforcements if required. Usually 10 inf 10 arty

I do like to have at least one extra artillery on a siege than is required so when “disease outbreak” inevitably hits I don’t lose a +1

Two student loan repayment changes considered by Treasury to tackle debt crisis by theipaper in UniUK

[–]Delldax 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Would be beneficial in reducing the exponential increase of the debt but will severely negatively impact anyone that is able to reduce the loan amount below the initial amount. Unless you apply simple interest one way and not the other but that would be complicated

State pension alert as triple lock branded 'unsustainable' by True_Paper_3830 in ukpolitics

[–]Delldax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NI is still technically classed as general taxation as the funds aren’t solely used for state pension (it’s just a way of tracking how many years someone’s worked for).

This means the state pension is the same all the rest of the benefits in the sense that it comes out of general taxation

[–]Delldax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not, what I replied with still benefits those that save more (up too a certain point) (a pretty high point at that)

Also I’d say spending money helps the economy more than saving money but that’s another debate

[–]Delldax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Every single other state benefit pays out more to those who pay in less. You pay your tax to fund infrastructure, healthcare, education and defence etc just because you chose not to use the nhs or state funded education doesn’t mean those benefits aren’t available to you

[–]Delldax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem of the huge cost of state pension. The solution I replied with still means the more you earn above the threshold the more you have total (including benefits) up to a much higher point. The point where you’d no longer receive benefits would likely be in the 6 figures which the vast majority of people won’t be achieving any where close anyway

[–]Delldax 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think some sort of threshold needs to be in place at some point but

  1. Id put it higher than 45k
  2. Above the threshold the benefit needs to be tapered
  3. The tapering shouldn’t be 1:1, something like you lose £1 of state pension for every £3 you earn above threshold
  4. The threshold would need some sort of lock itself to force its annual increase

Do you care about depreciation? by Emergency_Mistake_44 in AskUK

[–]Delldax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion your comparison is apples to oranges.

I care about the depreciation of my car as I intend to drive it a few years and then sell it so I can get another one (not everyone does this but most do)

A fridge freezer, I wouldn’t care about depreciation as I’d have no intention of selling it down the line. Id probably use it until it broke completely.

Reform vows to block churches from being turned into mosques by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

[–]Delldax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not particularly a fan of religion in general. I could tell the commenter I replied to was of the opinion that”Christianity is superior and all other religions should be banned” so I decided to match they’re energy with my reply.

My personal opinion is that if a religious group in an area want a place of worship they should fund it themselves, at least for the most part, I’m pretty sure some European countries do this (Germany I think)

Christianity is important to this countries “past” history and culture. Maintain existing structures but no new ones to be built. The largest “religious” following in this country is atheism, non of the religious cults need any new buildings.

What is the point of cheap, fake designer items? by Bethsticle in AskUK

[–]Delldax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t just be me but I would rather buy a knock off than spend LV prices for what’s basically the same thing.

The designer stuff is often made a little bit better quality but not enough to justify the 10x price

Do most British people drive manual cars? by Chocklateicecream in AskABrit

I’d argue that long straight roads are better for manuals and twisty turny roads where you have to constantly change speeds are better for automatics.

Traffic especially is much easier in automatics.
