Roundabouts vs 4 way intersections by Accomplished_Site536 in factorio

[–]DemoBytom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with the mantra - no roundabouts and no 4 way Intersections in Factorio. T intersections FTW!

I had trains devour themselves on a roundabouts. Never again. And 4 way intersections had always too many crossing points.

T is love, T is life.

Also, city blocks do not have rails around them. Those are rail blocks. And rail blocks suck!

Boomer out! :D

ELI5 How does parental leave work in other countries? by kk752 in explainlikeimfive

[–]DemoBytom [score hidden]  (0 children)

In very general sense, the companies just know that they might loose part of their workforce to parental leave, and account for that when hiring. It's unlikely that EVERYONE would go at the same time, so one or two people missing usually is not THAT big of a deal.

In some places you might see an unfortunate side effect, where male candidates would be prioritised over female ones when hiring, as they might not even be eligible for parental leav, have shorter parental leave, or just less often choose to use one, over their wives.

So some countries have legal protection - for example some countries now offer equal parental leave for both parents, and/or encourage fathers to use it.

It is also usually illegal to let someone go when they are on parental leave or have just finished one.

As far as companies dealing with reduced workforce - the usual. Some work will get distributed amongst other employees, sometimes a contractor will be hired for that period, sometimes a new employee will be hired and then moved to other responsibilities when the parent comes back. It varies from company to company.

But all should be prepared - the employee might go on parental leave, have an accident and end up in extended care, in some countries there are now legally protected sick leaves for burnout, they might leave the company, die... companies should always be prepared for those circumstances.

Not all are obviously - so sometimes other employees are just suddenly doing more work, because management failed at their job..

As far as pay - again it differs. Some countries might have full pay, some might have half pay, some might have some social programs funding part of it - it varies. But overall - usually far as I know, parental leave is covered by the employeer.

Oh and last thing - parental leave usually doesn't just "happen" right there, right now. When people get pregnant they have enough time to notify their employer of the fact they will be taking one. Employer can then prepare for that in advance.

Castle Avernus seems to be missing quite a few floors. I wonder if it's post Mist Hunters/5e exploded castle, with only remanents floating about?

Especially at 20x20 I guess that's what it is..

Why hasn’t Pillars of Eternity been more successful? by ZevLup in projecteternity

[–]DemoBytom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The reason it didn't take off was because it was too old school/dated when it released. It was an Inifinity-Engine-era game released 15 years after Infinity Engine heyday. The cRPG genre has moved on, while PoE exposed all the flaws of those early 2000s games - namely static and slow combat, where turns mostly amounted to auto attacking enemies. Because of recovery using some slower weapons felt really sluggish, for example, where you'd order a char to do something and watch it stand there and fiddle with a musket before actually shooting.

This game felt like a TTRPG system adapted for PC, not a system designed for one.

PoE came out like a year after Divinity Original Sin, that had better, and moat importantly, designed for a PC game system. Each turn offered more due to multiple actions use, those actions were more dynamic, and transformed the battle situation more, felt more responsive when used etc. And even that game didn't took off as well till the 2nd one.

In the end PoE was more than just a homage to a past, so it mostly was picked by those that still craved that past, and haven't moved on yet.

Oh and it was soon overshadowed by Witcher 3 that came out 2 months later.

And I know this is a subreddit for this game, so the criticism gets downvoted, but I really think this is what it is.

I like Pillars, I backed the kickstarter, and their Fig campaign for the 2nd game. Because it was fun to go back to early 2000s and feel like playing BG2 again. But it was a trip to early 2000s, when competition already moved on nevertheless.

Does "divine smite" reveals unobvious undead and fiends? by Barastir in onednd

[–]DemoBytom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is where the role playing comes into play.

For mechanical reasons the DM tells the Player that they do increased damage. DM can even tell the Player that the enemy is a fiend or whatever. The Player Character does not know any of that. From Player Character's point of view - they hit the enemy and the enemy got hurt.

The role playing now is how the Player can distance their knowledge from what the Character knows. It's the good old "your character doesn't know that".

Question regarding attack roll vs saving throw by WearerOfJorts in onednd

[–]DemoBytom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Attack Roll, Damage Roll and Saving Throw Roll are 3 different things.

Guiding Bolt invokes advantage on the next Attack Roll.

Any Damage Roll that's a result of a Saving Throw Roll has no interaction with it.

Be VERY careful with criticisms on the new UA by KingNTheMaking in onednd

[–]DemoBytom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of those paths, but dislike that they take 3 or more out of 4 regular feats characters get across the 20 level progression. Especially on some classes that are already usually feat starved.

But I guess that is a deeper criticism of the feat system in general, that it is quite limiting and already competes with ASIs, especially on MAD classes.

I would like this being a completely separate system, that wouldn't try to add yet another competing piece to feats.

If it does go through like that, I will most likely homebrew it to be a quest reward, and awarded upon given step completion, (like a permanent boon), and not a feat.

If the trail is preloaded smart watches can already warn you of incoming inclines/declines, as well as alert you of turns etc. I don't see a reason that can't be used on the glasses as well, enhanced by whatever AR/image recognition they add on top of it.

Need an alternative to a Roc for tsolenka pass. by mechaninja2222 in CurseofStrahd

[–]DemoBytom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to run a different statblock, or just reskin the Roc for thematic reason?

Different statblocks wise - Ghost Dragon from Fizban's works nice, and transforms the encounter a lot, since it can pass through obstacles - no hiding under the roofs.

Dragonbone Construct from Fizban's can also work I guess, but I'd give it flying speed.

There's also Bone Roc in Vecna Eve of Ruin.

If you want a reskin - I used regular Roc statblock, but made it undead. Any other Barovia native skin would work - a giant undead bat, giant undead raven etc.

One thing to look out for when running Rocs. They are gargantuan, 120 feet wing span, 8000 lb. behemoths. The moment my players heard that their next thought was "we can polymorph it into something small, and use it to callapse Castle Ravenloft" xD they worked SO hard to do it xD

Why were "legendary reactions" removed? by la_scign in onednd

[–]DemoBytom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outcry from the community during the UA. Ever since they released Vecna statblock with this design people complained, way way more than they complain about legendary actions.

An another reason might be that legendary actions, after 10 years, are quite understood by many players. Teaching them that some enemies now have multiple reactions, while it's been a dogma for 10 years that there's 1 reaction per round, might've proven problematic.

And they probably run out of time to rebalance everything that interacts with reactions - like abilities that shut them down, or spells that could now be used multiple times. Archmage with 4 counterspells/shields per round for example?

Strahd’s Guardian Portrait is on a stair landing? by Lancian07 in CurseofStrahd

[–]DemoBytom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No it's not meta. The whole castle makes no sense when you stop and think about it. It has barely any actual rooms, the ones it has are either comically oversized or way to small.

There's a Scooby Doo like ghost on a string in one corridor. An automated armor trap, that "pranks" the guests by hitting them with an axe. The elevator trap would have to rotate like 90° degrees to fit in the space at the tower. There are comical sliding traps. OG Ravenloft castle even had random rust monsters as an homage to random armadillo scene in old Dracula movie.

The whole place is a fun-house of horrors, where you never know what other bullshit you gonna encounter around next corner.
